ART AND ARCHITECTURE
«St-Toujours», 2018–2019
Art and Architecture Project by Eva Maria Gisler The art and architecture work «St-Toujours» consists
Artistic realization: Sereina Steinemann of a façade painting high above the main entrance
CEFF St-Imier, on behalf of the Canton of Bern of the Ceff St-Imier building and 41 painted clocks
Photos: Jean-Pierre Balmer in acrylic on cotton.

Eva Maria Gisler was responsible for the concept, I
                                                   provided the artistic realization.

The painted picture of a clock is hung in every room
of the building, where prospective nurses are trai-

nagement office, in the kitchen or cafeteria show
the time - but not the current time of day, but the
phenomenon of time itself. The painted clocks also
remind us of the original function of the building,
which was formerly a clock factory.

This network in the interior spaces is supplemented
by a larger painted clock on the building façade: in-
tegrated into the structure of the façade design,
the building features a relief rondel in a central po-
sition above the main entrance, which is now desig-
ned as a clock in blue and yellow.

Important aspects of the everyday working life in
the health and social sector are the ability to have
time even under time pressure and to bring in the
individual personality in addition to the professional
                                                   performance of clearly defined tasks.

The art and construction work «St-Toujours» with
its painted clock pictures for the Ceff premises re-
fers to this – and at the same time creates a link to
the former watchmaking industry. It creates a tem-
porary workplace and thus addresses aspects of
work such as homework, efficiency and precision in
the series, but in the execution of the individual pic-
