Prayers for the Morning

Thanks to a bequest from the late Margaret Davies, mother of Brian Davies, we
have been able to purchase in her memory audio/visual equipment that allows us
                   to broadcast our Sunday morning services.

The Minister shall read aloud these Sentences of the Scriptures that
follow.
The LORD is in his holy temple: let all the earth keep silence before him.
Habakkuk 2. 20.

O worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness: let the whole earth stand in
awe of him. Psalm 96:9

1st Hymn #355 vs 1, 4-7 (Common Praise - Canada)
All creatures of our God and King,
lift up your voices, let us sing:
alleluia, alleluia!
Bright burning sun and golden beams,
pale silver moon that gently gleams,
alleluia, alleluia, alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!

Earth ever fertile, day by day
unfold your blessings on our way,
O sing now, alleluia!
All flowers and fruit that in you grow,
God's glory let them also show:
alleluia, alleluia, alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!

All you with mercy in your heart,
forgiving others, take your part,
alleluia, alleluia!
All you that pain and sorrow bear,
praise God, and cast on God your care:
alleluia, alleluia, alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!

And even you, most gentle death,
waiting to hush our final breath,
O sing now, alleluia!
You lead back home the child of God,
for Christ our Lord that way has trod:
alleluia, alleluia, alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!

Let all things their creator bless,
and worship God in humbleness,
alleluia, Alleluia!
Praise God the Father, praise the Son,
and praise the Spirit, Three-in-One:
alleluia, alleluia, alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!

The Minister, turning to the people, shall say the Exhortation.
DEARLY beloved brethren, the Scripture moves us in sundry places to
acknowledge and confess our manifold sins and wickedness; and that we
should not dissemble nor cloke them before the face of Almighty God
our heavenly Father; but confess them with an humble, lowly, penitent,
and obedient heart; to the end that we may obtain forgiveness of the
same, by his infinite goodness and mercy.
And although we ought at all times humbly to acknowledge our sins
before God; yet ought we most chiefly so to do, when we assemble and
meet together to render thanks for the great benefits that we have
received at his hands, to set forth his most worthy praise, to hear his most
holy Word, and to ask those things which are requisite and necessary, as
well for the body as the soul.
Wherefore I pray and beseech you, as many as are here present, to
accompany me with a pure heart and humble voice unto the throne of the
heavenly grace.

A general Confession to be said of the whole Congregation with the
Minister.
Merciful God, you have called us to live lives worthy of the calling to
which we have been called. But we confess to you and each other that
we have not always spoken the truth in love; we have not always made
every effort to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.
Forgive us and, by your grace, help us to grow in every way into him
who is our head, Jesus Christ. Amen.

The Absolution, or Remission of sins, to be pronounced by the Priest alone.
The Almighty and merciful Lord grant you absolution of all your sins,
true repentance, amendment of life, and the grace and consolation of the
Holy Spirit. Amen.

Minister. O Lord, open thou our lips;
People. And our mouth shall show forth thy praise.

Minister. O God, make speed to save us.
People. O Lord, make haste to help us.

            Here, all stand

O COME let us ‘ sing unto • the ‘ LORD:
        *let us heartily rejoice in the ‘ strength of ‘ our sal’vation.

                           PSALM 104 (1-9,25)
                              sung together

Bless the LORD, O my soul. O LORD my God, how excellent is your
greatness! You are clothed with majesty and splendor.

You wrap yourself with light as with a cloak and spread out the heavens
like a curtain.

You lay the beams of your chambers in the waters above; you make the
clouds your chariot; you ride on the wings of the wind.

You make the winds your messengers and flame of fire your servants.

You have set the earth upon its foundations, so that it shall never move
at any time.

You covered it with the deep as with a mantle; the waters stood higher
than the mountains.

At your rebuke they fled; at the voice of your thunder they hastened
away.

They went up into the hills and down to the valleys beneath, to the
places you had appointed for them.

You set the limits that they should not pass; they shall not again cover
the earth.

O LORD, how manifold are your works! In wisdom you have made
them all; the earth is full of your creatures.

          Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: As it was
          in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. Amen.

                                        said together.

                          The Lord is my light and my salvation;
                                whom then shall I fear?

                            The Lord is the strength of my life;
                             of whom then shall I be afraid?

                           Though a host encamp against me,

                            One thing have I asked of the Lord
                                   and that alone I seek:
                         that I may dwell in the house of the Lord
                                  all the days of my life,

                          To behold the fair beauty of the Lord

                                  For in the day of trouble
                              he shall hide me in his shelter;
                    in the secret place of his dwelling shall he hide me
                               and set me high upon a rock.

                     Therefore will I offer in his dwelling an oblation
                                    with great gladness;
                         I will sing and make music to the Lord.

        Minister. The Lord be with you;
        People. And with thy spirit.
        Minister. Let us pray. Lord, have mercy upon us.
People. Christ, have mercy upon us.
Minister. Lord, have mercy upon us.

                         THE LORD’S PRAYER
                         In Terra Pax – Frank Martin

                                    All
                    OUR Father who art in heaven,
                        Hallowed be thy Name,
                 Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done,
                       on earth as it is in heaven.
                    Give us this day our daily bread;
                     And forgive us our trespasses,
               As we forgive them that trespass against us;
                   And lead us not into temptation,
                        But deliver us from evil.

Then the Priest standing up shall say:
O Lord, show thy mercy upon us;
People. And grant us thy salvation.

Priest. O Lord, save the Queen;
People. And mercifully hear us when we call upon thee.

Priest. Endue thy Ministers with righteousness;
People. And make thy chosen people joyful.

Priest. O Lord, save thy people;
People. And bless thine inheritance.

Priest. Give peace in our time, O Lord;
People. And evermore mightily defend us.

Priest. O God, make clean our hearts within us;
People. And take not thy Holy Spirit from us.

THE COLLECT.
ALMIGHTY and Ever living God, increase in us your gift of faith, that
forsaking what lies behind and reaching out to what is before, we may run
the way of your commandments and win the crown of everlasting joy;
through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the
Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen

The Second Collect, for Peace.
O GOD, who art the author of peace and lover of concord, in knowledge
of whom standeth our eternal life, whose service is perfect freedom:
Defend us thy humble servants in all assaults of our enemies; that we,
surely trusting in thy de- fence, may not fear the power of any adversaries;
through the might of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

The Third Collect, for Grace.
O LORD our heavenly Father, Almighty and everlasting God, who hast
safely brought us to the beginning of this day: Defend us in the same with
thy mighty power; and grant that this day we fall into no sin, neither run
into any kind of danger; but that all our doings may be ordered by thy
governance, to do always that is righteous in thy sight; through Jesus
Christ our Lord. Amen.

2nd Hymn #415 (Common Praise - Canada)

Refrain: All things bright and beautiful,
            all creatures great and small,
            all things wise and wonderful,
            the Lord God made them all.

Each radiant flower that opens,
          each vibrant bird that sings,
          God made their glowing colours,
          God made their lively wings.
Refrain…….

The cold wind in the winter,
          the pleasant summer sun,
          the ripe fruit in the garden,
          God made them every one.
Refrain…….

The rocky mountain splendour,
          the loon's wild, haunting call,
          the great lakes and the prairies,
          the forest in the fall.
Refrain…….

God gave us eyes to see them,
          and lips that we might tell
          how great is the Creator,
          who has made all things well.
Refrain…….

Prayers and Thanksgivings.
A Prayer of Saint Chrysostom.
ALMIGHTY God, who hast given us grace at this time with one accord to
make our common supplications unto thee; and dost promise that when
two or three are gathered together in thy Name thou wilt grant their
requests: Fulfil now, O Lord, the desires and petitions of thy servants, as
may be most expedient for them; granting us in this world knowledge of
thy truth, and in the world to come life everlasting. Amen.

                                     Poem
                              God is the Fracture
                                  Pádraig Ó Tuam

I used to need to know
the end of every story
but these days I only
need the start to get me going.

God is the crack
where the story begins
We are the crack
where the story gets interesting

We are the choice of
where to begin
the person going out?
the stranger coming in?

God is the fracture
and the craic in your voice
God is the story
flavoured with choice.
God is the pillar of salt
full of pity
accusing God
for the sulphurous city.

God is the woman who bleeds
and who touches
We are the story
of courage or blushes.

God is the story
of whatever works
God is the twist at the end
and the quirks.

We are the start
and we are the centre
we’re the characters
narrators, inventors.

God is the bit
that we can’t explain
maybe the healing
maybe the pain.

We are the bit
that God can’t explain
maybe the harmony
maybe the strain.

God is the plot
and we are the writers
the story of winners
and the story of fighters
the story of love
and the story of rupture
the story of stories
the story without structure.

The Grace
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the
fellowship of the Holy Spirit, be with us all evermore. Amen.

Concluding Hymn #560 (Common Praise - Canada)

God, whose almighty word
chaos and darkness heard,
and took their flight:
hear us, we humbly pray,
and where the gospel-day
sheds not its glorious ray,
let there be light!

Savior, who came to bring
on your redeeming wing
healing and sight,
health to the sick in mind,
sight to the inly blind:
now for all humankind
let there be light!

Spirit of truth and love,
life giving, holy dove,
speed on your flight!
Move on the water's face
bearing the lamp of grace,
and in earth's darkest place
let there be light!

Gracious and holy Three,
glorious Trinity,
wisdom, love, might,
boundless as ocean's tide
rolling in fullest pride:
through the world far and wide
let there be light!
