The legend of the lost city - Sun City
“Centuries before tall ships were
ever dreamed about, long before
the dawn of a Western civilisation, a
nomadic tribe from Northern Africa
set out to seek a New World, a land
of peace and plenty”
The tribe wandered for many
years in search of such a magical
place, and at last their quest was
rewarded. The land they discovered
to the South became the legendary
Valley Of The Sun, known today as
The Valley Of Waves.
Not only did they bring with them a
rich culture, but also architectural
skills, which were exceptional, even by today’s standards.
Something special was created; from the jungle rose an
amazing city with a magnificent Palace, a world richer and
more splendid than any they had ever known – then a violent
earthquake struck this idyllic valley, the survivors fled, never
to return and left it to be found and restored by archaeologists
centuries later. We have today restored it to its former glory.

Airport Access
Approx 2.5hrs from OR Tambo International Airport, Johannesburg by coach
SA Express is now offering direct, scheduled flights from both Cape Town and Johannesburg to
Pilanesberg Airport, conveniently located 10 km outside Sun City.
Sun City Climate
The weather in the Pilanesberg is pleasant
throughout the year. Summers are very hot
with late afternoon showers and winter brings
cold mornings and evenings but wonderful
warm dry days.
The Pilanesberg’s summer months bring the
most rain between mid September and April.
However, this is ever-changing due to global
warming.
When visiting the Pilanesberg to also enjoy
game viewing, the best time of year is early in
the morning during spring and summer.
Sun City and the Pilanesburg National Park are
malaria-free areas.

The Pilanesberg National Park
The world’s largest game translocation operation
undertaken in 1979 ensured that the Pilanesberg
National Park is now home to over 7000 wild
animals, including the Big 5 and other large
species. Over 300 bird species have also been
identified in the area.
The Park is also geologically famous. Volcanic
eruptions some 1200 million years ago gave
rise to what is now known world-wide as the
“Pilanesberg Alkaline Ring Complex”.
World Class Golf
Home to 2 championship ‘18 hole’ courses,
avid golfers will be
spoilt for choice.
The Lost City course has splendid views over
the bushveld and numerous crocodiles await
you at the
13th (water) hole.
The Nedbank Golf Challenge, which is part
of the Sunshine Tour circuit, is held every
December at the Gary Player Country Club
Course.
