or how to utilize your membership?
ASK THE CLUB
We asked members to share their questions with us about the Club.
Here are a few queries we received last month and the answers to them.
What is the $25 monthly charge
on my statement?
Members are charged a monthly $25 minimum.
In other words, if you don’t spend $25 in food or
beverage during the month, you will be charged
$25 at the end of the month. This is meant to
encourage members to come in and enjoy
the club. Remember, the $25 is not a credit, it
doesn’t roll over.
Speaking of monthly statements, did you know
that when using a credit card on the PCA
website to make an online payment, that card
is saved only for payments made through the
website and cannot be pulled by accounting to
make other payments? This is set up as a safety
measure to protect your credit card information.
If you wish to have a specific credit card number
on file for your monthly billing, please contact
Vicki Myers at vmyers@petroclub.net.
Must I always be the one to pay
when I bring guests into the Club?
While everyone loves a free lunch, you don’t
always have to pick up the tab. Your guests may
certainly pay their own way when joining you at
the Club. Same goes for events, such as Little Red
Dress or a Wine Dinner, which require reservations.
Simply let your server know that your guest will
be using his or her credit card or cash, so charges
won’t apply to your member account.
Do you have a question about the PCA? We want to
hear from you! Fill out an Ask the Club card next time
you visit or email your questions to Sheri Underwood,
General Manager at gm@petroclub.net, Tracy Dumas,
Communications at marketing@petroclub.net or Kristy
Kemp, Events Coordinator at events@petroclub.net.

The PCA recently celebrated 60 years of membership.
What’s kept a small, private Club like ours in business for so long? Several reasons.
1. Service – If you frequent the Club, then 5. Access – whether it’s an anniversary party,
everyone will know your name. Not only political fundraiser or important business
other members, but also the staff. From being meeting, membership comes with the privileges

Washington D.C.
Take a trip to the nation’s capital and visit the PCA’s new reciprocal club.
Just a few blocks from the White House, you’ll find The University Club of
Washington, D.C. Voted one of the top distinguished City Clubs in America,
the University Club of Washington, D.C. is all about elegance, tradition,
sociability and a celebration of intellectual pursuits. Since its inception in
1904, the club’s motto has been “Enter all ye who have a degree of good
fellowship and learning.”
The club’s first president was William Howard Taft, who was then serving as
Secretary of War and later went onto become the country’s 27th President.
Under Taft, membership grew prompting the club to move into a larger facility
from its original meeting spot in the city’s Willard Hotel. Construction costs
were raised from the sale of 2,000 shares at $100 each and in 1912, Taft laid
the cornerstone of the project. The good times were rolling for members until
the Great Depression when membership numbers took a dive. At the same
time, another organization, the Racquet Club of Washington, was looking to
build but also feeling the pinch of the economy. The two groups decided to
join in 1936 and become the club that it is today.
The University Club offers world class cuisine in its dining room including
aged steaks, tender veal and soft-shell crab. More casual fare is available in
The John J. Pershing Grille (named after the hero general from World War I,
who was also a member), Sports Lounge and in the Founder’s Pub. Banquets
and catering are also available for private or business functions. The Club
offers live music on weekends, a pool table, popcorn machine and three
large screen TVS in the lounge.
On-site accommodations include 57 beautiful rooms which combine the
comforts of home with luxurious hospitality, a 24-hour business center, a
3,000 square foot fitness center with personal trainers, two squash courts,
Olympic sized indoor pool, day spa with a wide array of treatments, locker
and laundry service, meeting/private event rooms and a library with a reading
room. Nearby points of interest include The White House, The Treasury TO LEARN MORE ABOUT RECIPROCAL CLUBS VISIT

be at the PCA for Friday at Five. Join us the
last Friday of the month for food, drinks and
live music. This month’s musical guests are
Adam Bartlett and Forest Wilson.
Mr. Bartlett, who plays with the band Hot
Club of Nunaka, has been playing music
since he was four years old, including classic
guitar with a focus on the music of Spain
and South America. Several years ago,
the sounds of Django Reinhardt caught his
attention and now he exclusively plays gypsy
jazz and swing music.
Mr. Wilson studied music at UAA and performs
across Alaska with several bands, including
Swing 49. He also shares his talents through
teaching guitar, banjo, bass, mandolin and
ukulele. Swing into your weekend with the
upbeat sounds of these great local musicians
