Welcome to the final Events guide for 2018 2018 has been another busy year in all seven libraries around the city. Our patrons have really embraced the opportunities offered by the National Distribution System, which offers them the chance to borrow books, CDs, and DVDs from libraries all over Ireland. In addition 2018 has seen a growing programme of exhibitions, book launches, author visits, music recitals, and many other activities – for example the 14th Cork World Book Fest, a busy Heritage Week, and enjoyable Children’s Book Festival. This did not happen of its own accord – it is a tribute to the library staff, so full of ideas, and so committed to libraries achieving their full potential. Looking ahead to next year, the most exciting project for us will be welcoming new communities in Ballincollig, Glanmire, and Blarney. 2019 is shaping up to be an historic year for our city, and with these new areas our city is shaping up to be a very different, more varied, and more interesting place. Libraries will play a full part in making this happen. Looking forward to seeing you, your family and friends in your local library in 2019. Wishing you all the best for the coming year. Liam Ronayne, City Librarian
