    WINTER 2022 TEXTILE AND FIBER ARTS ENDOWMENT
         FUND COMPETITIVE GRANT GUIDELINES
Opened in 2018, the goal of Textile and Fiber Arts Endowment Fund is to encourage the practice and
appreciation of traditional and contemporary textile and fiber arts in Mendocino County. Textile and fiber
arts include, but are not limited to, surface design, textile printing, quilting, fabric painting, fabric and
yarn dyeing, wool processing, weaving, spinning, knitting/crochet, felting, basketry, rug hooking,
braiding, macramé, and lace making.

                                  AVAILABLE FUNDING
Textile and Fiber Arts Fund: total $5,000; grant range $500-$5,000

Please note the Community Foundation is under no obligation to grant the entire amount of funds
available, or requested.

                                          ELIGIBILITY
The Community Foundation is welcoming proposals from Mendocino County organizations and
governmental entities (including museums), and public and private schools for education and appreciation
of textile and fiber arts. If you received a Textile and Fiber Arts Endowment Fund grant in 2021, your
organization is still eligible to apply to this round of funding, provided you complete an interim report
prior to the deadline. City and county entities will be considered on a request-by-request basis. All other
applicant organizations must:

   •    serve residents of Mendocino County. Applicants not headquartered in Mendocino County must
        ensure that all grant dollars requested are spent within the County;
   •    be legally chartered in California and in possession of determination letter from the IRS declaring
        the organization a public charity that is exempt from federal income tax under Section 501(c)(3);
        or be a school district, tribe, or special district (e.g. community services, recreation, fire
        protection); or have an aligned mission with a fiscal sponsor;
   •    have two years of operational history; and
   •    conduct business without discrimination on the basis of race, color, gender, sexual orientation,
        age, disability, national origin, or religious affiliation.

                               EXCLUSION GUIDELINES
Applicants may not use grants for:

    •   political contributions or to support political campaigns or lobbying;
    •   influencing the outcome of or participate in any public election or to carry on, directly or indirectly,
        any voter registration drive;
    •   purposes other than those which are religious, charitable, scientific, literary, or educational within the
        meaning of Section 170 (c)(2)(B) of the Internal Revenue Code; and
    •   purposes other than those stated in the grant award.

                                            CRITERIA
Grants will be made for programs and projects including, but not limited to:
   • Special projects, speakers, publications and exhibitions;
   • Community and K-16 education programs; and
   • Scholarships and internships advancing textile and fiber arts; and equipment.

                               APPLICATION PROCESS
Grant applications are submitted online through the Textile and Fiber Arts Endowment Fund Application
link in the Community Foundation grant portal. Online grant portal access can be found on our website at
www.communityfound.org.

The grant proposal submission deadline is 5:00 p.m. on February 4th, 2022.

Applicants are strongly encouraged to apply at least five days in advance of the deadline to resolve any
technical difficulties or unforeseen internet connectivity issues.

if they questions or would like feedback on their individual proposals after carefully reading the grant
guidelines.

                                     REVIEW PROCESS
The Community Foundation makes every effort to fund the most competitive proposals while considering
the fields of interest determined by its donors. Grants are evaluated by review committees comprised of
subject matter experts and community representatives.

Grants recipients will be notified of award by March 15, 2022. The Community Foundation Board of
Directors makes the final awards and is under no obligation to award all of the funds available, or
requested. The Community Foundation reserves the right to share proposals with Community Foundation
non-competitive grant programs at its discretion.

                                  CHECK RECEPTIONS
The Community Foundation Board of Directors would like to acknowledge and celebrate awardees at
regional check receptions in April and May 2022. Recipients are encouraged to have staff and board
members attend the appropriate check reception for your region. Dates and locations to be announced.

          FOLLOW-UP AND REPORTING REQUIREMENTS
Projects and/or activities should be concluded by March 1, 2023. Upon completion of the grant period,
successful grantees are expected to provide a Final Grant Report. Grant reporting requirements will be
based on the size of the grant and the nature of the project. All grant reports will be completed through the
online grant management portal.

Organizations that fail to complete any requested reporting by may be ineligible for future funding
through the Textile and Fiber Arts Endowment Fund.

Grantees should be available for site visits during the term of the grant. Funded organizations must also
be willing to “tell their story” to future donors and/or grantees and to participate in donor events
recognizing grant recipients as well as provide images for Community Foundation publications.
