2020–2021 ANNUAL REPORT Thank You Although the past year has certainly been a major challenge due to the pandemic, this new reality is also making us realize once again how important our hospital is. The synergy between the Chaleur Regional Hospital Foundation and the Chaleur Regional Hospital is the core element of our mission and makes life better for thousands of people in our region. It is crucial for us to continue our efforts for all those people – such as you, your family, your co-workers, your friends or your loved ones – with past, present or future health care needs.
Redesigning and Innovating to Exceed Set Objectives
Our daily challenge is to innovate and create new fundraising opportunities. We are fortunate to be able
to count on support from a small army of volunteers and a number of partners who are helping us reach
our objectives. We would like to thank the community for the tremendous generosity we have received
as people have adapted to the virtual changes introduced into our various programs and activities.
MAJOR CAMPAIGN
It is important for us to thank our donors who, despite the current challenges, are continuing to meet
the commitments they have made to our $5 million major campaign dedicated to our hospital expansion
and the acquisition of cutting-edge medical equipment. Construction is slightly behind schedule but the
final result will certainly meet our expectations.
MAJOR DONATION PROGRAM
The Chaleur Regional Hospital Auxiliary has closed its doors after 80 years of exemplary dedication to
the patients and staff of the Chaleur Regional Hospital. Before their departure, they gave a donation of
over $170,000 to our Foundation. A $100,000 endowment fund has been established in their name as
testament to their long-term commitment.
This endowment fund will provide bursaries supporting the
continuing education of the hospital’s staff.
An amount of $10,000 has been dedicated to the fight against
cancer and an equivalent amount has been earmarked for the
Annual Campaign. In addition, an amount of over $50,000 will be
invested in an innovative project to improve the comfort and
dignity of dementia patients in Long-Term Care.
PLANNED GIVING PROGRAM
Barbara Boyle (1946-2016), who was a nurse committed to her patients
and co-workers, left a significant $354,000 bequest for future generations.
Barbara’s executors Debbie Gammon and Judy Melanson explain that
Barbara was a leader, model, confidant and inspiration as a nurse and
manager within the Emergency Department. This large amount that Ms.
Boyle bequeathed will be divided up as follows: $250,000 will be invested
in the Emergency Department to purchase equipment and a $52,000
bursary fund will be created in her memory for the continuing education
of the nurses in this area.
Another $52,000 will be used to create a bursary fund for the continuing
education of the nurses in the Oncology Clinic.

Annual Campaign
The success of our Annual Campaign depends on donations from the community
as well as activities such as the Roses Radiothon, Charity Golf Classic and
Northern Star.
Roses Radiothon
The final results of this year’s Roses Radiothon exceeded our expectations. Our
overall objective was $175,000, and donations from the community allowed us to
raise $239,503. This money will be used to purchase equipment in the fight
against cancer and to support the hospitals on the Acadian Peninsula.
A new virtual collaboration initiative, Walk a Kilometre in My Shoes – St-Isidore
Asphalte, met with great success under the leadership of Ronald Losier, Honorary
Chair. During this activity, participants met the challenge of walking in specialized
shoes used for paving. This symbolic gesture serves to remind us about the
challenges that cancer patients face..
Charity Golf Classic
This tournament, sponsored by the Port of Belledune, unfortunately had to be
cancelled as a preventive measure in 2020 due to COVID-19. However, under the
leadership of Dr. Marc-André Doucet, we approached our usual generous
partners and asked them to convert into a donation what it would normally have
cost them to register. The response was very positive. A total of $21,000 was
raised, with 10 percent of this amount going to the fund in the memory of Brad
Chamberlain dedicated to children in oncology.
The Northern Star
The collaboration project developed under the chairpersonship of Dr. Marilyne
Bossé involving all the foundations in the North and our partner UNI Financial
Cooperation proved successful. This year, people could donate online, and a
miniature paper Christmas tree bearing their names was placed in the cafeteria to
encourage frontline staff. This activity raised a total of $114,000, with $26,838
going to the Chaleur Regional Hospital.
What Makes Us Proud:
Bringing Projects to Fruition through Donations
It’s partners like you who make it possible to support our frontline professionals. The $470,856 that was raised
made it possible to purchase various pieces of equipment and to support the continuing education of staff in
several sectors of our hospital.
The money was allocated as follows:
$401,954 for patient care sectors;
$60,256 for diagnostic sectors;
$8,646 for training and other needs.

our volunteers and donors have met this year’s challenges.
Thank you for your commitment, which is improving the
health care and services available here in our region.
Recognition is also due for the hard work of the Chaleur Regional Hospital’s employees, who have had to adapt
quickly to the challenges posed by the pandemic. Thank you for your commitment and dedication. This
pandemic has once again demonstrated the importance of having access to health care here in our region,
for our region.
The Board of Directors will launch a strategic planning process this year to continue supporting our hospital. This
will put the Foundation in a better position and allow us to plan our efforts to pursue our mission in coming years.
