                          President’s ponderings…
Wow, what a great night we had at the Ray Beckley Memorial night at the Trots!
The weather was good (particularly for this time of year) and we were joined by
                          friends and family.
Congratulations to Ray Tucker who organised
                          the evening.
There were winners, but didn’t hear too much
                          about the losers!

The raffle was great and thanks to everyone
who contributed. The net amount for the raffle was $280 after expenses.
Winners are grinners – well done Carmel.

                                      Grandpa Gary and Uncle Reece
                                      were again blessed with another
                                      grandson and nephew.
                                        It happened while the
                                       Ray Beckley Memorial
                                         Race was being run.
                                          Congratulations to
                                       grandparents Gary and
                                          Ros. Ros couldn’t
make it to the event as

It was great to see President Pierre of Lara District
Rotary Club and his wife, Gillian (at right)

They were on a table with other Lara Rotarians.

Thanks for supporting the function ,Lara members.

The Club members and guests enjoyed their meal in the

GOLF DAY Friday 9th April, 2021

Don’t forget, we will not be meeting this week at the Croatian Club, but will be assisting with the Golf Day on
Friday morning.
Those who are helping out, please be at the Geelong Golf Club at 7am. If you are assisting with the sandwich
making, please bring a bread board and a knife.

PEACE POLES @ Northern Bay College
I had the honour of representing our Rotary Club with a photo of the Peace Poles with some of the international
students and our co-sponsor, Kerry Woodman, representing the Kardinia Rotary Club. The children are
dressed in national costume for Harmony Day.
Below: Kerry Woodman to the far left, and Deb Furlan on the right.

The Peace Pole program had its beginnings in 1955. You can
now find Peace Poles in close to 200 countries and more than
200,000 have been placed around the World. Our aim is to dis-
tribute 100 Peace Poles for 100 years of Rotary sponsored by
100 Rotary Clubs, with each pole will be numbered 1 to 100.
Peace Poles are planted with the Universal Peace Message “May
Peace Prevail on Earth”. They symbolise our common wish for a
World at Peace. They stand as a silent vigil for peace reminding
us to think and act in the spirit of Peace. The Peace message is
written in four languages one panel on each side of the Peace
                                            Pole.

100 Rotary Clubs or School’s from around Australia are invited by
the Rotary Club of Canberra Burley Griffin to become involved in
this joint Centenary project. Will your Club or School be one of the
100 Rotary Clubs or Schools to decide to support this idea?

FUNDRAISING OPPORTUNITY FOR
                                          THE CLUB

                                  FOOTBALL GATEKEEPERS

We have the option of joining with other Rotary Clubs in the District to man the Gates at St Albans Football
Club home games. They are two hour shifts with two people on the gate at a time. We would get about $200
per game, which may go to a common recipient.
Please let me know if you would like to do this.
Deb

A NOBLE PROFESSION
                       WHICH ATTRACTS MANY JOKERS

The value of an engineer. There was an engineer who had an exceptional gift for fixing all
things mechanical. After serving his company loyally for over 30 years, he retired. Several
years later the company contacted him regarding a seemingly impossible problem it was
having with one of its multimillion-dollar machines. He spent a day studying the huge ma-
chine. At the end of the day, he marked a small “x” in chalk on a particular component of the
machine and proudly stated, “This is where your problem is.” The part was replaced and the
machine worked perfectly again. The company received a bill for $50,000 from the engineer
for his service. They demanded an itemized accounting of his charges. The engineer re-
sponded with the following: “Chalk: $1. Knowing where to put it: $49,999.”

The Club has a long and proud history built on the commitment and gener-
osity of charter and early members. Following our success with the profiles
of current members, and the interest generated, it was agreed that the
profiles would continue in a format similar to previous offerings, but these
will be of past members, including those who have laid the foundations of
our Club. Current Members are urged to help with the research of past
members, and your assistance is particularly important in achieving this
goal. Don’t be shy. Please make contact and help with this project.
