THE NATIONAL DIVERSITY IN STEM CONFERENCE - 2019 SACNAS - OCT. 31 - NOV. 2, 2019
Aloha! Welcome!

SACNAS is proud to hold the nation’s largest multicultural and multidisciplinary STEM
diversity event in Hawaii, America’s most ethnically diverse state.
Hawaii is also one of the most biologically diverse places on the planet. With deep
ocean waters, active volcanoes, and incredibly diverse microclimates and environments,
the 50th state is one of the earth’s greatest scientific treasures and provides a living
                    laboratory for exploration.

                    From the Executive Leadership
The SACNAS National Diversity in STEM Conference is known for its sense of familia.
In Hawaiian, the word is ohana. The moment you step into a SACNAS event, you know
you are home—your whole self is accepted and celebrated as a vital part of your
                    contributions to the STEM fields.
Sonia Zárate, PhD
Our partners are an essential part of this ohana—providing opportunities, resources,
connections, and inspiration to the next generation of STEM talent.

We invite you to join this community of changemakers.

The major goals for 2019 SACNAS–The National Diversity in STEM Conference are:

                       1. To provide an inclusive space that honors and celebrates science, culture, and
                             community, and

                       2. To serve as the connector between diverse STEM talent and you.

One of the most important aspects of our conference is the breadth of professional
development opportunities available.Whether it’s principles of leadership, engagement
through networking, or access to the brightest talent, you will find them all at 2019 SACNAS.

We hope you take advantage of the many benefits that come with a conference
John D. Winnett
partnership. As a conference partner, you demonstrate your commitment to diversifying
STEM and making the culture of science more inclusive, not only at your own institution
or company but across the country. Your presence as a conference partner will help
educate our attendees and influence their academic and career paths.

We look forward to welcoming you into the SACNAS ohana.

valuable feedback regarding my research during

like there were people that didn’t even know me but had my
back and were willing to support my career path. Seeing other
PhDs that looked like me and had similar paths reminded me
that I am supposed to be here and motivated me to finish the
last few years I have left in my PhD program.”

numbers will be announced on the last day at the SACNAS booth in the Expo Hall.

• Boost recruitment at your booth through social media engagement, inclusion in the mobile app, and the
additional in-person traffic to the booth

• Challenge Example: Come to booth 604 and take a selfie of yourself with the Anteater (UCI). Post the
selfie to one of your social media accounts and tag UC Irvine and SACNAS.

“Previously I attended the conference as
a graduate student, but this was my first
time as a faculty member. The one-on-one
mentoring session was like an epiphany. I found
myself having come full circle from mentee
to mentor, from graduate student to faculty
member. During the meeting, I felt goose
bumps every time I sat in a roundtable and
students approached me with questions and
sought advice. Overall this meeting was pivotal
in helping me reaffirm my vision and mission...
to be in a position where I had direct contact
with students and to teach them fundamental
scientific principles while providing them with
                    mentorship and guidance.”
