Welcome and Announcements

Hymn: “Thine Is The Glory” ELW # 376
      Thine is the glory, risen, conqu’ring Son;
      endless is the vict’ry thou o’er death hast won!
      Angels in bright raiment rolled the stone away,
      kept the folded graveclothes where thy body lay.
      Refrain:       Thine is the glory, risen, conqu’ring Son;
                     endless is the vict’ry thou o’er death hast won!
      Lo, Jesus meets thee, risen from the tomb!
      Lovingly he greets thee, scatters fear and gloom;
      let his church with gladness hymns of triumph sing,
      for the Lord now liveth; death hath lost its sting! Refrain.
      No more we doubt thee, glorious Prince of life;
      life is naught without thee; aid us in our strife;
      make us more than conqu’rors, through thy deathless love;
      bring us safe through Jordan to thy home above. Refrain.
                                       Text: Edmond Budry, 1854-1932; tr. R. Birch Hoyle,1875-1939

Thanksgiving for Baptism
Alleluia! Christ is risen.
Christ is risen indeed. Alleluia!
Refreshed by the resurrection life we share in Christ, let us give thanks for the gift of
Baptism.

We thank you, risen Christ,
for these waters where you make us new,
leading us from death to life, from tears to joy.
We bless you, risen Christ, that your Spirit comes to us
in the grace-filled waters of rebirth
like rains to our thirsting earth,
like streams that revive our souls,
like cups of cool water shared with strangers.
Breathe your peace on your church when we hide in fear.
Clothe us with your mercy and forgiveness.
Send us companions on our journey as we share your life.
Make us one, risen Christ.
Cleanse our hearts.
Shower us with life.
To you be given honor and praise
with the Holy Spirit,
in the glory of God,
now and forever.
Amen.

The Apostolic Greeting
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy
Spirit be with you all.
And also with you.

Hymn of Praise “This is the feast . . .”                           p. 149
Prayer of the Day
Let us pray.
God of mercy, we no longer look for Jesus among the dead, for he is alive and has
become the Lord of life. Increase in our minds and hearts the risen life we share with
Christ and help us to grow as your people toward the fullness of eternal life with you,
through your Son, Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord, who lives and reigns with you and
the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
Amen.

                                      God’s Word

Reader: A reading from Isaiah 25:6-9
On this mountain the Lord of hosts will make for all peoples a feast of rich food, a feast
of well-aged wines, of rich food filled with marrow, of well-aged wines strained clear.
And he will destroy on this mountain the shroud that is cast over all peoples, the sheet
that is spread over all nations; he will swallow up death forever. Then the Lord God will
wipe away the tears from all faces, and the disgrace of his people he will take away
from all the earth, for the Lord has spoken.
It will be said on that day, Lo, this is our God; we have waited for him, so that he might
save us. This is the Lord for whom we have waited; let us be glad and rejoice in his
salvation.

The Word of the Lord.
Thanks be to God.

Psalm 118:1-2, 14-24            read responsively

Give thanks to the Lord, for the Lord is good;
   God’s mercy endures forever.
Let Israel now declare,
   “God’s mercy endures forever.”
The Lord is my strength and my song,
   and has become my salvation.
Shouts of rejoicing and salvation echo in the tents of the righteous:
   “The right hand of the Lord acts valiantly!”
The right hand of the Lord is exalted!
   The right hand of the Lord acts valiantly!”
I shall not die, but live,
   and declare the works of the Lord.
The Lord indeed punished me sorely,
   but did not hand me over to death.
Open for me the gates of righteousness;
   I will enter them and give thanks to the Lord.
“This is the gate of the Lord;
    here the righteous may enter.”
I give thanks to you, for you have answered me
    and you have become my salvation.
The stone that the builders rejected
    has become the chief cornerstone.
By the Lord has this been done;
    It is marvelous in our eyes.
This is the day that the Lord has made;
    let us rejoice and be glad in it.

Reader: A reading from 1 Corinthians 15:1-11

Now I would remind you, brothers and sisters, of the good news that I proclaimed to
you, which you in turn received, in which also you stand, through which also you are
being saved, if you hold firmly to the message that I proclaimed to you—unless you
have come to believe in vain. For I handed on to you as of first importance what I in turn
had received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the scriptures, and that he
was buried, and that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the scriptures,
and that he appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve. Then he appeared to more than
five hundred brothers and sisters at one time, most of whom are still alive, though some
have died. Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles. Last of all, as to one
untimely born, he appeared also to me. For I am the least of the apostles, unfit to be
called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God. But by the grace of God I
am what I am, and his grace toward me has not been in vain. On the contrary, I worked
harder than any of them—though it was not I, but the grace of God that is with me.
Whether then it was I or they, so we proclaim and so you have come to believe.

The Word of the Lord.
Thanks be to God.

Gospel Acclamation: “Alleluia . . .. "         ELW p. 151
The Gospel according to St. Mark, the 16th chapter.
Glory to you O, Lord.

Mark 16:1-8
When the sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and
Salome bought spices, so that they might go and anoint him. And very early on the first
day of the week, when the sun had risen, they went to the tomb. They had been saying
to one another, “Who will roll away the stone for us from the entrance to the tomb?”
When they looked up, they saw that the stone, which was very large, had already been
rolled back. As they entered the tomb, they saw a young man, dressed in a white robe,
sitting on the right side; and they were alarmed. But he said to them, “Do not be
alarmed; you are looking for Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He has been raised;
he is not here. Look, there is the place they laid him. But go, tell his disciples and Peter
that he is going ahead of you to Galilee; there you will see him, just as he told you.” So
they went out and fled from the tomb, for terror and amazement had seized them; and
they said nothing to anyone, for they were afraid.

The Gospel of the Lord.
Praise to you, O Christ.

Hymn: "Christ Has Arisen, Alleluia” ELW # 364
       Christ has arisen, alleluia.
       Rejoice and praise him, alleluia.
       For our redeemer burst from the tomb,
       even from death, dispelling its gloom. Refrain.
              Refrain: Let us sing praise to him with endless joy.
                            Death’s fearful sting he has come to destroy.
                            Our sin forgiving, alleluia!
                            Jesus is living, alleluia!
       For three long days the grave did its worst
       until its strength by God was dispersed.
       He who gives life did death undergo,
       and in its conquest his might did show. Refrain.
       The angel said to them, “Do not fear.
       You look for Jesus who is not here.
       See for yourselves the tomb is all bare.
       Only the grave-clothes are lying there.” Refrain.
“Go spread the news: he’s not in the grave.
     He has arisen this world to save.
     Jesus’ redeeming labors are done.
     Even the battle with sin is won.” Refrain.
     Christ has arisen to set us free.
     Alleluia, to him praises be.
     Jesus is living! Let us all sing;
     he reigns triumphant, heavenly king. Refrain.

The Nicene Creed
     We believe in one God,
      the Father, the Almighty,
      maker of heaven and earth,
      of all that is, seen and unseen.
     We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ,
      the only Son of God,
      eternally begotten of the Father,
      God from God, Light from Light,
      true God from true God,
      begotten, not made,
      of one Being with the Father;
      through him all things were made.
      For us and for our salvation
           he came down from heaven,
           was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the virgin Mary
           and became truly human.
           For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate;
           he suffered death and was buried.
           On the third day he rose again
           in accordance with the scriptures;
           he ascended into heaven
           and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
           He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead,
           and his kingdom will have no end.
     We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life,
      who proceeds from the Father and the Son,
      who with the Father and the Son is worshipped and glorified,
      who has spoken through the prophets.
      We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic church.
      We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.
      We look for the resurrection of the dead,
           And the life of the world to come. Amen.
The Prayers of Intercession

Alive in the risen Christ by the power of the Holy Spirit, we bring our prayers before you,
O God, trusting in your promise to hear us and answer in steadfast love.
                                        A brief silence.
Praise to you, O Lord, for your power revealed in the resurrection! Fill your church with
the power of your love and new life that is stronger than death. Send us to tell the good
news wherever death holds power. Lord, in your mercy,
hear our prayer.
Praise to you, O Lord, for your life revealed in the resurrection! Fill all of creation with
your life. Bring it to blossom and flourish; use it to remind us of your persistent grace.
Cultivate our care for what you have made. Lord, in your mercy,
hear our prayer.
Praise to you, O Lord, for the peace made possible in the resurrection! Fill the nations
with your peace. Draw together people of all nations and languages; reveal new
possibilities and inspire new beginnings. We pray for peace in the Middle East,
Afghanistan, Myanmar, North Korea, and all places where war or conflict exists. Lord, in
your mercy,
hear our prayer.
Praise to you, O Lord, for the hope of the resurrection! Fill all in need with hope. We lift
up to you those who are afraid or confused, those who are sick or suffering, those who
are dying, and those who grieve. We especially pray for all those who are sick with the
Covid-19 virus, those who are on our prayer list. . . and those whom we name now . . .
Lord, in your mercy,
hear our prayer.
Praise to you, O Lord, on this Easter morning, for all of the blessings that you give. As
we celebrate Jesus’ resurrection, we give you thanks for these blessings that we name
now . . .
Lord, in your mercy,
hear our prayer.
Praise to you for the joy of your resurrection! Fill your people with joy as we are called
your beloved in baptism. Multiply that joy so that we share it at home, at work, and in
our communities. Lord, in your mercy,
hear our prayer.
                           Here other intercessions may be offered.
Praise to you for your faithfulness revealed in the resurrection! Fill us with trust, that we
join with all who have gone before us in proclaiming that your mercy endures forever.
Lord, in your mercy,
hear our prayer.
In the hope of new life in Christ, we raise our prayers to you, trusting in your never-
ending goodness and mercy; through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.

The peace of the Lord be with you always.
And also with you.
                      Share the peace with those in your household.
The Offering

Offertory Canticle: “Halleluiah! Jesus Lives!” verse 1 ELW #380
       Hallelujah! Jesus lives! He is now the Living One;
       from the gloomy halls of death Christ, the conqueror, has gone,
       bright forerunner to the skies of his people, yet to rise.
                                           Text: Carl B. Garve, 1763-1841; tr. Jane L. Borthwick, 1813-1897, alt.

Offertory Prayer
Merciful God,
our ordinary gifts seem small for such a celebration,
but you make of them an abundance,
just as you do with our lives.
Thank you for these blessings, enough to share.
Thank you for the opportunities to serve in your name.
Thank you for the strength of the risen Christ in our lives.
Amen.

The Great Thanksgiving
The Lord be with you.
And also with you.
Lift up your hearts.
We lift them to the Lord.
Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
It is right to give our thanks and praise.

It is indeed right, our duty and our joy, that we should at all times and in all places give
thanks and praise . . . . we praise your name and join their unending hymn:
In the night in which he was betrayed, our Lord Jesus took bread, and gave thanks;
broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying: Take and eat; this is my body, given for
you. Do this for the remembrance of me.

Again, after supper, he took the cup, gave thanks, and gave it for all to drink, saying:
This cup is the new covenant in my blood, shed for you and for all people for the
forgiveness of sin. Do this for the remembrance of me.

The Lord’s Prayer
       Our Father, who art in heaven,
        hallowed be thy name,
        thy kingdom come,
        thy will be done,
              on earth as it is in heaven.
       Give us this day our daily bread;
        and forgive us our trespasses,
              as we forgive those who trespass against us;
       and lead us not into temptation,
        but deliver us from evil.
       For thine is the kingdom,
        and the power, and the glory,
        forever and ever. Amen.
The risen Christ invites us to this table.
Come, eat and be satisfied.
Thanks be to God.

Take and eat; this is the body of Christ given for you.
      (All receive the bread.)

Take and drink; this is the blood of Christ shed for you.
      (All receive the wine/grape juice.)

                              Silence for reflection and prayer.

May the body and blood of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, strengthen and keep you
in his grace, now and forever.
Amen.

Let us pray.
We give you thanks, almighty God, that you have refreshed us through the healing
power of this gift of life; and we pray that in your mercy you would strengthen us through
this gift, in faith toward you and in fervent love toward one another; for the sake of Jesus
Christ our Lord.
Amen.

The Benediction
May the One who brought forth Jesus from the dead
raise you to new life, fill you with hope,
and turn your mourning into dancing.
Almighty God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit,
bless you now and forever.
Amen.

Hymn: "Christ Is Risen! Alleluia!” ELW # 382

       Christ is risen! Alleluia! Risen our victorious head!
       Sing his praises! Alleluia! Christ is risen from the dead!
       Gratefully our hearts adore him as his light once more appears;
       bowing down in joy before him, rising up from griefs and tears.
       Refrain: Christ is risen! Alleluia! Risen our victorious head!
                      Sing his praises! Alleluia! Christ is risen from the dead!
       Christ is risen! All the sadness of our Lenten fast is o’er;
       through the open gates of gladness he returns to life once more;
       death and hell before him bending see him rise, the victor now,
       angels on his steps attending, glory round his wounded brow. Refrain.
Christ is risen! All the sorrow that last evening round him lay
         now has found a glorious morrow in the rising of today.
         See the grave its first fruits giving, springing up from holy ground;
         Christ was dead, but now is living; he was lost, but he is found. Refrain.
         Christ is risen! Henceforth never death or hell shall us enthrall.
         We are Christ’s, in him forever we have triumphed over all.
         All the doubting and dejection of our trembling hearts have ceased;
         hail the day of resurrection! Let us rise and keep the feast. Refrain.
                                                 Text: John S. B. Monsell, 1811-1875, alt.; Music: Frederick C. Maker, 1844-1927
