A time to be born and a time to die.
A time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted.
A time to break down, and a time to build up.
A time to weep and a time to laugh.
A time to keep and a time to throw away.
A time to be silent and a time to speak.
A time to love and a time to hate.
A time for war and a time for peace.
God has made everything suitable for its time.
God has put a sense of past and future into our minds.
God has done this, so that all should stand in awe before him.
Whatever God does endures forever.

The Lord’s My Shepherd arr. Malcolm Archer (b. 1952)
Fredda Payne, alto
The Lord’s my shepherd, I’ll not want: he makes me down to lie
In pastures green; he leadeth me the quiet waters by.
My soul he doth restore again, and me to walk doth make
within the paths of righteousness, e’en for his own name’s sake.
Yea, though I walk through death’s dark vale yet will I fear no ill;
For thou art with me, and thy rod and staff me comfort still.
My table thou hast furnished in presence of my foes;
My head thou dost with oil anoint, and my cup overflows.
Goodness and mercy all my life shall surely follow me;
And in God’s house for evermore my dwelling place shall be.
NEW TESTAMENT READING: Romans 12:4-9
The Word of the Lord.
Thanks be to God.

ANTHEM
Prayer Gabriel Fauré (1845-1924)
Fredda Payne, alto
Our Father in heaven, before Thee we come, lowly kneeling.
Wilt Thou open our eyes, all Thy mercy and love revealing?
If we have wandered far, along the path of night darkly going,
Lead us back with Thy hand, O bring us to the light ever glowing.
We will follow Thy voice as on the upward road Thou dost lead us.
Where living waters flow, with everlasting bread Thou wilt feed us?
O Father in heaven, before Thee we come, lowly kneeling.
Open our waiting hearts, Thy mercy and Thy love revealing.
May we forgiving be, as we, O Lord, by Thee are forgiven.
O may Thy kingdom come, and on earth Thy will be done, as in heaven.
Our response to *AFFIRMATION OF FAITH - from A Brief Statement of Faith
hearing God’s In a broken and fearful world
Word includes the Spirit gives us courage
singing and saying to pray without ceasing,
what we believe. to witness among all peoples to Christ as Lord and Savior,
to unmask idolatries in Church and culture,
to hear the voices of peoples long silenced,
and to work with others for justice, freedom, and peace.
In gratitude to God, empowered by the Spirit,
we strive to serve Christ in our daily tasks
and to live holy and joyful lives,
even as we watch for God’s new heaven and new earth,
praying, “Come, Lord Jesus!”With believers in every time and place,
we rejoice that nothing in life or in death
can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE
LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread;
and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors;
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom
and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.

Build with Habitat for Humanity of Alamance County! Habitat Alamance is accepting individual and group volunteers on the job site now, but you must pre-register with Cathy Lamb clamb@habitatalamance.org first so she can keep a limit on the number of people on the job site each day due to Covid and so she can send you a volunteer waiver and information sheet so you will know what to expect on the job site. Flower Team—Do you like to arrange flowers? Would you like to volunteer for something that is not a huge commitment but it VERY helpful to First Presbyterian? Come join the flower team! On Mondays, we create smaller arrangements from the flowers in church on Sunday. Then, the arrangements are available on Tuesdays for Deacons or PW visitors or others to come get to take to folks in the congregation. We hope to pull together a team so each person only needs to come in once a month. Please let Kathleen Seagroves or Carrie Tuttle know if you are interested. FPC Vision Statement
First Presbyterian Church recognizes that God is on the move, and our church, inspired by God’s Holy Spirit, will continue to grow in
God’s love and the example of Jesus Christ as we minister to each other, the community, and the world. Guided by God’s calling for
our church and each of us as individuals, we will advance God’s mission more fully by:
Cultivating a nurturing community,
Discovering new expressions of faith through worship and music while preserving holy traditions,
Regularly assessing how we need to change in order to sustain our partnership with God’s mission for years to come, and
Engaging in the spiritual, physical, and emotional work of God’s mission.
Matthew 25 in the PC(USA): A bold vision and invitation
We are a Matthew 25 church! Our congregation has accepted the PC(USA)’s invitation to follow Jesus’
teachings in Matthew 25:31–46 by becoming active disciples and making a difference in our community and
the world. As part of our Matthew 25 commitment, we pledge to embrace one or more of these three areas of
focus: • Building congregational vitality by deepening and energizing our faith and growing as joyful leaders
and disciples actively engaged with our community as we share the gospel of Jesus Christ in word and deed •
Dismantling structural racism by fearlessly applying our faith to advocate and break down the systems, practices
and thinking that underlie discrimination, bias, prejudice and oppression of people of color • Eradicating
systemic poverty by acting on our beliefs and working to change laws, policies, plans and structures in our
society that perpetuate economic exploitation of people who are poor. To learn more and for ideas on how to
get involved and do your vital part as a member of a Matthew 25 church, please visit pcusa.org/matthew25.You Asked for It! - Summer Worship Series - 10:00 a.m.
We have begun a summer worship series entitled, “You Asked for It!”
A couple of months ago, we asked you to suggest a title for one of our summer sermons—and the response
was incredible. Your church staff had a difficult time selecting just 12 from all of the suggestions. As you will
see from the list below, many of the sermon titles reflect what we have all encountered during the pandem-
ic. The preacher was responsible for picking a text for each title, so it will be interesting to see where he/she
goes with it. Join us each week either in-person or by livestreaming.
