WELCOME TO WARKWORTH SHOW 2020
                AND THE “149TH VIRTUAL EXHIBITION”

This is not the original foreword I wrote for this year’s Warkworth Show schedule.
Along with everybody else at the moment we are having to change and adapt.
Warkworth Show started 161 years ago and the reason we have only held 148
Shows so far is that our predecessors had no other option but to cancel the shows
during the two World Wars and during an outbreak of foot & mouth disease in the
1960’s.

The Warkworth Show Committee decided that, notwithstanding the restrictions
being imposed on us all by COVID-19, we could still achieve many of the aims
and objectives of our Show by holding the Exhibition using information technology
and social media-an opportunity which was never available to our predecessors.

I am delighted, therefore, to adapt my foreword and welcome everyone in our
local community to participate in what will be a unique, unconventional but special
149th Virtual Exhibition. Regrettably, the Exhibition will only be open to the
residents of Warkworth Parish and members of the Amble Allotment Holders
Society, the Amble, Acklington and Warkworth WIs.

In addition and ahead of the Virtual Exhibition, we are running fortnightly
“Challenges” from the 10th June until early August. Two classes are being set for
each Challenge and entrants can photograph and upload their exhibits for peer
review and public vote. The 149th Virtual Exhibition will be more recognisable
with children’s, horticultural, and industrial exhibits being photographed,
uploaded, judged and then available in our virtual marquee on Show Day - 22nd
August 2020.

We are excited to offer you and your family the opportunity to take part in our
Virtual Exhibition and hope that you will find many classes in this schedule which
you will wish to enter. The fortnightly Challenges and the 149th Virtual Exhibition
will provide something on which we can all focus, and may help to lift spirits by
keeping us all connected during these difficult times. More than ever, the
emphasis is on taking part, having fun and yes- a little competition!

Please keep an eye on our website, www.warkworthshow.co.uk, and our
Facebook page for the latest updates and information about the this special 149 th
Virtual Exhibition, or if you do not have access to the internet and would like more
information please ring Catherine Dowlen, the Show Secretary, or me.
                                                Simon Buist – Show Chairman

Date for the diary: Our 150th Show will be held on Saturday 21st of August
2021 when we look forward to returning to Warkworth Castle.

                                         4
Warkworth’s Wednesday Challenge
As so many of us are at home observing the strict isolation and social distancing guidelines
imposed on us by the Covid 19 pandemic, the Warkworth Show Committee agreed that it
would be good to hold some light-hearted challenges in the run up to the Warkworth Virtual
Exhibition 2020.

Two challenges will be set fortnightly. You have one week to complete either or both
challenges and send a photograph of your entry to marketing@warkworthshow.co.uk.

There is no age restriction and you can enter individually or as a family.

Please note that it is not a competition as such, but the photos will be uploaded to the
Warkworth Show Facebook page, where residents can ‘like’ the entries. The entry with the
most likes will be highlighted.

The quality of the photograph is not an issue. If you are not able to photograph or upload
your entry, then phone Catherine Dowlen (Show Secretary) on 01665 713709 and we will
help you, whilst still observing social distancing.

Wednesday 10th June
   1. Take a photograph of wildlife in the garden or viewed from your house.
   2. Create a bug hotel made from natural materials.

Wednesday 24th June
   1. Create a home-made sculpture and photograph it.
   2. Draw or paint the view from a window (either from your house or garden shed/
      summerhouse).

Wednesday 8th July
   1. Photograph the most unusual find in your garden/ house.
   2. Create a ‘selfie’ using fruits and or vegetables. (This might be on a dinner plate).

Wednesday 22nd July
   1. Who has the most impressive compost heap? Photograph it!
   2. Create a pattern made from pebbles.

Wednesday 5th August
   1. Photograph your favourite part of the garden or spot on your daily walk.
   2. Build a shelter from natural materials (could be for people or animals).

We know that there are lots of creative things going on in people’s gardens and homes
and we look forward to seeing your entries. Have fun!

                                             5
HOW THE 149TH VIRTUAL EXHIBITION WILL WORK

OVERVIEW
Most exhibits will be photographed at your house (front door step, garage,
shed etc) by a team of photographers at a time agreed well before Show
day. For some Classes the exhibitor will photograph their own exhibits and
send the images in. Once all the exhibit images have been uploaded they
will be made available to the judges who will award a 1 st, 2nd or 3rd for each
Class as appropriate. Once the judging is complete the images of all the
exhibits will be displayed on the website from 10am of Show day – Saturday
the 22nd August.

THE DETAIL
1 This is a Virtual Exhibition and we want to make use of email, digital
photography and the internet wherever possible. But we are aware that
some may not have these facilities and we are keen that they are not
disadvantaged. For those who don’t have access to the internet please
telephone Catherine Dowlen, the Show Secretary, for details of how to enter.
Our intention is to publish a printed booklet of the 149 th Virtual Exhibition
and winners after Show day.

2 There will be no cups or trophies awarded this year, nor will there be any prize
money. On the plus side, there will be no entry fees. As Warkworth Show is the
only Show in the North East this year we are expecting much media coverage, so
hopefully your exhibits will be widely acknowledged and recognised.

3 Entry to the 149th Virtual Exhibition is restricted to those residents living in the
parish of Warkworth, and members of the Amble Allotment Holders and Amble,
Warkworth and Acklington WIs.

4 All exhibitors must use the entry form in this schedule and on our website.
Entry forms are to be emailed to the Entries Secretary at
entries2020@warkworthshow.uk (note it is not .co.uk ) by the 31st July. No
entries will be accepted after this date. Those of you that don’t have internet
facility should phone their entries through to the Show Secretary 01665
713709.

                                          6
ART, PHOTOGRAPHY, and all WRITING CLASSES only.
5 These classes require the exhibitor to upload their own image of their
exhibit to the Show organisers. Once your entry form has been processed,
you will receive an email (phone call for those without an email address),
informing you of your personal exhibitor’s number. You will also receive
confirmation of when to send your images in, and how to transfer video
entries.

      a) Art and writing: exhibitors should take their own photographs of
their art work and of their children’s handwriting entries and
artwork. Guidance and hints on how to take photographs of
artwork will be available on the Warkworth Show website. Anyone
needing assistance should contact the Show Secretary.
All creative writing entries and poetry entries (children and adults)
should be emailed to the entries email address (see below) as a
          word document.
      b) Photography: class exhibitors may use post-production software.
      c) All images except video are to be saved as a .jpg file, with a
maximum size of 2mb and sent to both of the following email
          addresses: entries@warkworthshow.uk and
          marketing@warkworthshow.co.uk.
      d) Video files should be saved as a .mov or .mp4 file and transferred
using the link emailed to the exhibitor after their entry form has
been processed. Wherever possible, video files should be filmed
          in Landscape orientation.
      e) Please name all image files with the 6 digit number, class number
and your unique exhibitor’s number which will be emailed to you
once your entry form has been processed.

ALL OTHER CLASSES
6 Once your entry form has been processed you will receive an email (phone
call for those without email) informing you of your personal exhibitor’s
number, and date and time slot to stage your exhibit/s for the photographer.
7 You will need to have your exhibits ready and placed for the photographer at
the required time slot. The photographer will take up to 2 images of an exhibit
and will ensure the exhibit fills most of the image frame.
8 Feel free to be inventive with how you stage your exhibit, and the background
you choose. Remember the photographer will need to get close to the exhibit
whilst maintaining social distancing.

                                      7
9 Every exhibit will be identified by a 6 digit number, the first 3 being the Class
No. 001-458 and the last 3 digits being your personal number allocated to you
after your entry form has been processed. When staging your exhibit ensure the
appropriate and unique 6 digit number is written just below each exhibit so that it
can be included in each photograph. Use a small label if necessary.
10 Only one entry per person per class allowed. There are NO Multiple Entries
Accepted (MEA) this year.
11 Where there are less than 3 entries in a Class, placings will be awarded at the
judges’ discretion.
