World Pharmacist Day: 25 September

World Pharmacist Day is observed globally on 25th September every year.

      This day is celebrated to create awareness about the role of a pharmacist in improving health.
      The day was designated in 2009 by the FIP Council (International Pharmaceutical Federation or
       Federation Internationale Pharmaceutique) at the World Congress of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical
       Sciences in Istanbul, Turkey.
      The 2020 theme: “Transforming global health”.

World Maritime Day 2020: 24 September

World Maritime Day 2020 is observed globally on 24th September.

      It is observed to understand the importance of the marine environment, the impact of industries on the
       oceans and marine life and the well-being of seafarers who spend months away from home.
      The theme of World Maritime Day 2020 is “Sustainable shipping for a sustainable planet,”.
      The day provides an excellent opportunity to raise awareness of the United Nations’ Sustainable
       Development Goals (SDGs) and to showcase the work that the International Maritime Organization (IMO)
       and its Member States are undertaking to achieve the targets.

Time 100 Most Influential People of 2020

TIME magazine’s list of 100 most influential people for 2020 includes five Indians.

      PM Modi has been kept under the ‘Leaders’ along with Donald Trump, others.
      Ayushmann Khurana was the only actor from India who made it to the list.
      Ayushmann is the youngest Indian to be featured in this year’s TIME Magazine.
      Bilkis was an unlikely face among the names who made it to the TIME’s list. Bilkis was among the leading
       figures who led peaceful protests in Delhi’s Shaheen Bagh. The 82-year-old woman protested against the
       Citizenship Amendment Act last year.
      Sundar Pichai is among the five Indians who featured in this year’s TIME Magazine.
      Ravindra Gupta has been featured by TIME magazine under the ‘Pioneers’ category.

Webinar with Israel on Defence Industry Global Outreach for Collaborative Partnership

A webinar between India and Israel was held under the aegis of Department of Defence Production, Ministry of
Defence.

      The Theme of webinar was “Indian Defence Industry Global Outreach for Collaborative Partnership:
       Webinar and Expo”.
      This webinar is the first in the series of webinars which will be organized with friendly foreign countries
       in order to boost defence exports and achieve defence export target of $5 billion in the next five years.

   Creation of Sub Working Group (SWG) on Defence Industrial Cooperation between India and Israel was
       announced in the webinar.
      The main objective of the SWG will be Transfer of Technology, Co-development & Co-production,
       Artificial Intelligence, Innovation and Joint Export to friendly foreign countries.

Govt raises limit for use of SDRF funds by states from 35 per cent to 50 percent to tackle COVID situation

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced that the limit of using the State Disaster Response Fund for COVID
specific infrastructure has been increased from 35 per cent to 50 per cent.

      The decision will help States have more finances at their disposal to fight the virus.
      He interacted with the Chief Ministers of six states and one Union Territory through video conference.
      These States and UTs are Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Punjab, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh
       and Delhi.
      More than 63 per cent of the active cases of the country are concentrated in these six States and a Union
       Territory.

MeitY and NITI Aayog to organize mega virtual summit on AI-RAISE 2020

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) and NITI Aayog will organize a Mega Virtual
Summit on Artificial Intelligence (AI), RAISE 2020- 'Responsible AI for Social Empowerment 2020,'.

      The summit will be organised from October 5-9, 2020.

   RAISE 2020 will be a global meeting of minds to exchange ideas and chart a course for using AI for social
       transformation, inclusion and empowerment in areas like Healthcare, Agriculture, Education and Smart
       Mobility, among other sectors.
      At the RAISE 2020 Summit, delegates and experts in research, policy and innovation on Artificial
       Intelligence will join from across the globe.
      The RAISE 2020 Summit will also feature some of the most exciting startups working in Artificial
       Intelligence-related fields.

Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot approves ‘Moksha Kalash Yojana-2020’

The Chief Minister of Rajasthan, Ashok Gehlot has approved the Rajasthan State Road Transport Corporation’s
scheme called ‘Moksha Kalash Yojana-2020’.

      This Moksha Kalash Yojana aims to allow free bus travel to two members of the family of the deceased
       to immerse ashes of their loved ones in the Ganga in Haridwar.
      The state road transport corporation would be the nodal agency to run the scheme and the expenses would
       be borne by the Devasthan Department.
      Passengers will be required to register for availing the facility by providing details including about the
       dead person.

Assam CM Sarbananda Sonowal launches ‘Mukhyamantrir Grammya Paribahan Achoni’

Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal launched the Mukhyamantrir Grammya Paribahan Achoni.

   He also distributed vehicles under the scheme to beneficiaries.
      The scheme aims to improve rural connectivity and generate employment in the villages.
      The scheme has been launched by the transport department following an announcement made by the Chief
       Minister in his Independence Day speech on August 15, 2019.
      Under the scheme, the eligible entrepreneurs will be assisted financially with 25 percent of the cost of the
       vehicle by the State government or Rs 1 lakh, whichever is less.

IDFC First Bank to launch 'on phone' contactless debit card transaction facility ‘Safe Pay’

IDFC First Bank is set to launch SafePay, a digital facility that allows contactless debit card payments by simply
waving one’s smartphone against a Near Field Communication (NFC)-enabled POS terminal.

      SafePay embeds Near Field Communication (NFC) technology in the IDFC First Mobile App to enable
       secure payments using a debit card issued by the Bank.
      A social distancing-friendly way to pay, SafePay completely does away with the need to hand over the
       card to a merchant or even carry it in the wallet.
      Users can simply wave, pay and go, making the payment process not only touch-free, but also faster,
       simpler and safer.
      The first such facility to be made available in an integrated mobile banking app, the SafePay feature has
       been tested successfully and certified by Visa.
      SafePay enables contactless payments of up to Rs 2,000 per transaction and up to a limit of Rs 20,000 per
       day, making everyday purchases easy.

Alexander Lukashenko sworn in as President of Belarus for 6th term
President Alexander Lukashenko of Belarus was sworn in for a sixth term.

      After being sworn in, he was handed an official ID card showing he is the Belarusian president by the
       head of the country’s central election commission.
      The 66 year-old authoritarian leader won 80% of the vote in the presidential election to gain another 5
       year term.
      Lukashenko has served as the President of Belarus since the establishment of the office 26 years ago, on
       20 July 1994.

Renowned nuclear scientist Sekhar Basu dies of COVID-19

Veteran nuclear scientist and former chairman of Atomic Energy Commission Dr Sekhar Basu died of COVID-
19.

      A mechanical engineer, Dr Basu is revered for his contributions to the country's atomic energy
       programme. He was awarded Padma Shri in 2014.
      He had also pioneered the highly complex reactor for India's first nuclear-powered submarine INS Arihant.
      Dr Basu was also the brain behind designing, construction and operation of nuclear recycle plants at
       Tarapur and Kalpakkam.
   He played a key role in the development of the Indian Neutrino Observatory at Tamil Nadu. The atomic
       scientist was conferred the Indian Nuclear Society Award in 2002.

Former Australian Cricketer Dean Jones passes away

Former Australian cricketer and renowned commentator, Dean Jones passed away.

      He made his debut for Australia in a Test match in the West Indies in 1984.
      He played 52 Tests and 164 ODIs for Australia between 1984 and 1994 before venturing into
       commentary. He scored almost 9500 international runs.
