Day 2: Friday – T he Aran Islands & Westport

After a short drive to Rossaveal pier, we will sail across Galway Bay to the Aran Islands. We will arrive
on the rugged Inishmore Island, the largest of the three Aran Islands. We will then explore the island
by jaunting on the narrow roads which run along the many walled fields and take us to the historic
stone fort of Dún Aenghus, which lies 100m over the ocean before making our way back to the
mainland. No doubt you will pick up “cúpla focail” (a few words) of Irish as we experience the natural
beauty of this wild Atlantic treasure.

Our tour will then return by ferry to Rosaveal Pier where we continue onto the stunning town of
Westport. The journey to Westport will allow us to take in the breathtaking views of Connemara
National Park and the Lost Valley which is part of the famous Famine Trail.

Westport, in County Mayo, is a destination town for both tourists and locals alike and is a favourite
“staycation” destination for Irish people. Unwind with some local craft beers and excellent food in
Westport Town. For those seeking the famous Irish “craic“, there is plenty to be found at a traditional
Irish music session in Matt Molloy’s bar.
