have also been busy making hay
around the tropical weather patterns we have experienced
here in Mississippi.
In early spring the Belted Galloway Junior Association met
and our two junior committee members Sophia Romani
(RI) and Sawyer Bales (IN) expressed their support to hold
a virtual show for junior Belted Galloway breeders. In light
of the COVID-19 pandemic, BGJA leader Dustin James
(ME) worked with them and held a successful virtual event.
Dustin’s report appears within this newsletter.
I was happy to hear that the Southwest Belted Galloway
Association was able to hold their show and field day in late
May thanks to Dawson and Barbara Masters hosting it at
their Double M Ranch in Malone, Texas.
The Great Lakes Belted Galloway Association was also able
to hold their show in Pecatonica, Illinois.
It is encouraging that Belted Galloway breeders could get
out and actually meet and show cattle in these regions.

bgs newsletter | 4junior Virtual Show Results
by Dustin James, Co-Chair National Jr. Show Committee
As a past Belted Galloway Junior member, I knew that our
youth members from around the nation were the ones who
were really being effected by this. Every day on social media I
watched as more and more shows continued to be canceled. I
knew we had to do something to keep these youth member’s
spirits up and find a way to recognize the endless hours of
passion and hard work that they had already put into these
projects. We couldn’t let them down! This motivated me to
develop a platform to do just that, and I’m proud to report,
we successfully held the first ever Virtual Belted Galloway Jr.
Show, The First Edition!
Thirty-eight Belted Galloway Junior members from around the
country and even into Canada brought forward a spectacular
set of 60+ animals for the first ever Virtual Belted Galloway Reserve Champion Heifer
Show! We were blown away by the quality of both the children Aldermere Gwendolyn 44544-B
and the livestock. Each entry was required to submit both a Exhibited by Izzy Baker (ME)
photo and video of the animal for evaluation by our judge.
The judge evaluated the cattle just as they were at a standard
show and placed each class backed by a set of oral reasons.
Both the steer and heifer classes were filled with immense
quality from end to end.
Our judge, Kaye Kaufman of Kentucky, expressed a
wonderful take-home message at the conclusion of the show.
She said, “It has been enjoyable to see all the hard work
these kids have put into these projects,” and “Keep up the
hard work! Don’t get discouraged if virtual shows are the
extent of what you are able to participate in for the next few
months. There is no doubt we’ll be back showing livestock at
some point. Don’t let your interest in the projects wane as we
continue on.” We couldn’t agree more! Congratulations to all
youth on your accomplishments and perseverance despite the
recent cancellations of many shows. Keep up the hard work
