Topics for the year
 Autumn term 1: The Whitmore Way (PSHE)

 Autumn term 2: Crime and Punishment

 Spring term: Fantastic Beasts

 Summer term: A Moment in History (WW1 and 2)
Coronavirus Changes
 Children are sitting in rows and facing the front.
 Children have their own equipment and we are limiting where possible the resources they share.
 To limit adults touching children's resources, we will have a focus on self assessment, where
children mark their own work. This means children will have a greater understanding about their
    learning.
 Teachers will provide verbal feedback to the children during the lesson.
 Classes will remain in their ‘bubbles’. Classes will not mix with other bubbles.
 Children will be sanitising or washing their hands at regular intervals – we have both soap and hand
sanitiser in every class. Surfaces will be cleaned regularly.
 Please do not allow your children to bring rucksacks to school as the pegs in the cloakroom are very
close together and we do not want the children touching each other’s belongings unintentionally. A
soft bag for their PE kit and a book bag for books is sufficient. Carrier bags are also good as these
    are very small when empty.
 Children are not to wear ties at the moment, incase ties hang down and touch others.
Coronavirus Changes
 Please respect the one way system as you travel around the
    school site.
 Please maintain social distancing from adults who are not in
your family as you travel around the school site.
 Please only have one adult come onto the school site when
dropping off and picking up children to help everyone
    maintain social distancing.
 Drop off time is 8.45 for year 6 and the pick up time is 3.00.
If you need to pick your child up at a different time due to
sibling pick up and drop off times please let us know.
Uniform Expectations:
 Children are expected to come in uniform everyday.
 Black jumper, black cardigan, black school trousers and black shoes.
 Green summer dress.
 Please make sure your child's shirt is tucked in so that they look smart.
 Small hair bows and plain hair bands.
 Due to the current situation, please do not send your child to school wearing a school
    tie.
 Please put yours child’s name on all of their uniform, their lunch-boxes, books bags
    and PE kits.
PE Days
 Oak: Monday (indoors) and Friday (outdoors)
 Elm: Tuesday (indoors) and Wednesday (outdoors)
 Elder: Wednesday (indoors) and Monday (outdoors)
 Each class will also do the Daily Mile every day.
Please ensure your child has their PE kit in school when they need it.
Children will bring their PE kits home weekly to be washed and are expected to be back in
school on a Monday.
Whitmore’s PE kit consists of: black shorts, white t-shirt, black plimsolls or trainers, black
tracksuit (optional).
We cannot remove children’s earrings for them – please make sure that your child does not
wear them on PE days or is fully confident at removing their earrings by themselves.
Long hair will need to be tied back for PE.
If you are having difficulty providing a PE kit, please send your child’s teacher a message on
Class Dojo or an email to the class address and we will be happy to support you.
Free School Meals
 KS2 children have to pay for a school meal.
 http://www.essex.gov.uk/Education-Schools/Schools/Pupil-Parent-Support/Pages/Free-
    school-meals.aspx
 If you think you are entitled to free school meals, this is where you can find the
    information and apply.
Assessment
 We assess children using a banding system, if a child is where they should be
academically, they will be working within band 6 throughout year 6.
 Due to the Coronavirus, we will be spending time this year recapping and re-
teaching key objectives from year 5 to ensure that children do not have gaps in
    their learning.
 Throughout the next few weeks we will be completing baseline tests to assess
children's current attainment and allow us to assess any gaps within their learning.
 We will be assessing the children at regular intervals to check what they already
know and what they need to know to ensure that we are helping them to make up
for their missed time in school.
 If you have any questions about your child’s academic progress, please contact your
    child’s teacher.
SATs
 SATs will go ahead this academic year.
 SATS will be throughout the week of Monday 10th May 2021.
 Considering children have experienced a lockdown, our priority is the children’s
wellbeing, but children will be thoroughly prepared for SATs.
 Children will sit the following tests:
-Spelling, punctuation and grammar.
-Arithmetic
-Math’s reasoning.
-Reading
 Children will receive a raw score (the amount they scored), this will then be
converted in to a scaled score, with 100 being the expected standard.
 Here is a link to show you the expected standard for year 6, in writing:
   ment_data/file/653133/2018_exemplification_materials_KS2-EXS__Morgan_.pdf
 More information will be given to you about the SATs throughout the year, in the
meantime if you have any questions please ask your child’s class teacher.
Behaviour
 Children earn a Dojo point after each session if they have displayed the correct
behaviours for that session – for example, listening, working hard, being kind, following
    adult instructions.
 This includes a point for lunch-time.
 There are a possible 6 Dojo points to earn every day.
 Dojo time will be on a Wednesday and a Friday, activities of the children's choice.
 Children need to earn a minimum of 15 Dojo points on Wednesday and 25 on Friday to
    earn Dojo time.
 There will also be half termly rewards. Children will need to earn a required amount of
Dojo points in order to go to the half termly rewards.
 Messages and notices will be regularly posted on Class Dojo so please join your child's
class via the app or website. If you need help with this, please ask your child’s
teacher. You can log on to see how many dojos your children have earnt.
Homework Expectations (Reading, Maths and Spelling)
• Children need to read to an adult 5 times a week at home – please date and sign their
planners. If they finish their book, please write this in the planner as well. Every class
will have a ‘Read at Home Race’ display. Each week, we will count the number of times
that a child has read to an adult and their car will move along the race track. Who will
get to the end of the track first? Books and planners need to be in school everyday.

• If they wish, children can also choose to read via Oxford Reading Buddy. Their login
details are in the front of their planners. They can read a wide variety of books and
answer questions about them. If your child does this, please make a note in their reading
record so that we can count it towards their score for the ‘Read at Home Race’ display.
The books your child is reading on Oxford Reading Buddy should match their book band
  level.

• Children are also expected to use Times Tables Rockstars at home. Your child’s login
details are in the front of their reading record.

• Spelling homework will be set sent out weekly – a list of words to practise at home and
they will have a weekly spelling test on a Thursday.
