WORLD YOUTH DAY AT HOME - presents
WELCOME
A Letter from Bishop Frederick Henry (Bishop of Calgary)

Go Make Disciples of All Nations Cf. Mt. 28:19

My Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
Welcome one and all to this year’s World Youth
Day at Home/One Rock 2013! Our theme,
“Go and make disciples of all nations” Mt. 28:19,
presents us with an enormous challenge.

Our Canadian culture continues to manifest
aspects of its Christian heritage through an inter-
est in the common good and a respect of
individual freedom and dignity but many seem
to be lost without meaning or purpose in their
lives, without clear beliefs or a moral compass
and engaging future. And yet, they are loved by
God. The power of the Spirit abides in them
and seeks to free them from the tyranny of fash- F. B. Henry
ions and trends to help them become all they
   are called to be.

We are called to walk the journey with them, and to testify and proclaim the
good news of salvation. The late Pope John Paul II expressed what should be
our mind-set: “Let us go forward in Hope! A new millennium is opening before
the church like a vast ocean upon which we shall venture, relying on the help
of Christ. The Son of God, who became incarnate two thousand years ago out
of love for humanity, is at work even today: we need discerning eyes to see this
and, above all, a generous heart to become the instruments of his work.”
   (Novo Millennio Ineunte (58).

   Sincerely yours in Christ,

   +F. B. Henry
   Bishop of Calgary

A Warm Welcome to our participating Dioceses!

                                                                               5

WHAT IS ONE ROCK 2013 WYD@HOME?
It’s a vibrant faith-filled Christian festival for young adults and their families.
It’s a time where we come together, away from the noise of the world, to
make a noise for GOD!

A Dream from the Heart of God
It all started with a meeting hosted by Pope John Paul II in 1984. It was an
encounter of love, dreamed of by God and embraced by the youth. Voices
that needed to be heard and a heart ready to receive them.

The World Youth Day (WYD) as it was named in 1985 continues to show the
world the witness of a living and renewing faith, transforming the face of
Christ in every young person. They are the young, the protagonists of this
great gathering of faith, hope and unity. WYD’s main objective is to make
known to all youth in the world the message of Christ, but it is also true that,
through them, the ‘face’ of Young Christ is also shown to the world.

Today we join together with millions of youth from across the globe to live
this experience of faith! Give yourself the opportunity to dream in a new
world full of peace and unity. Be a part of the exciting new evangelization!

Prayer for World Youth Day at Home
Oh Holy Spirit,

Love of the Father and the Son,
with the splendor of Your Truth and the fire of
Your Love, shed Your Light to all our young
adults and families attending World Youth Day
at Home at One Rock in Cochrane.

We pray that they may bring to the four
corners of the world faith, hope and charity.
May they be moved by their experience and
become great builders of a culture of life and
peace as they go forth.
Amen.

WE’RE GLAD YOU’RE HERE!
A Letter from Mary Ann Donaleshen (Director of Youth Ministry, Diocese of Calgary)

                   Let Your Lives Be Transformed
                                          by Faith in God.
Rejoice in the Lord! I extend to each and every one of
you a very warm welcome. Thank you for gathering in
this place to celebrate World Youth Day at Home/One
Rock 2013. May new light stream in this place, where all
find a place to be nourished by the life changing
message of the gospel. Let your lives be transformed
by faith in God, so that with boldness and courage you
may proclaim Him to the whole world as “the way, the
               truth, and the life”.

Talented and engaging people have brought this
festival together. Many efforts, and plenty of
manpower hours from people across the province have
gone in to making this fourth year of One Rock a
celebration of our life of Faith.

We are particularly grateful for the donors and sponsors
who have believed in the vision and stepped forward to
bring together a dream. The Franciscan Friars too, have
opened wide their doors and their hearts in a gesture of M. A. Donaleshen
welcome to the new home of One Rock.

May all those who have worked and prayed in any way for the efforts of this year’s WYD at
Home/One Rock 2013 be rewarded a hundred fold for their generosity.
               Sincerely,

               M A Donaleshen

Director of Youth Ministry, Diocese of Calgary

Thank You
In the beginning it was Fr. Krystian Golisz, SDS who envisioned a place
where young adults would gather, and be refreshed by a gospel message
through music and inspiring talks. Now 4 years later One Rock enjoys a new
location at Mount St. Francis, and we can only say a huge thank you to
Fr. Krystian who stood by his dream. As he leaves us this year to head for
Ottawa we wish him all the best, and hope that he returns to join us for the
festival in future years. Thank you Fr. Krystian. Fr. Krystian Golisz, SDS
Thank you to Mount St. Francis, and the Franciscan Friars for opening their home so that
youth and young adults can gather. We say thank you to Fr. Pierre Ducharme, OFM
for stepping forward to help us in our first year at Mount St. Francis, to Fr. Kevin Lynch, OFM
for all his support and to everyone at the Mount who have made this event possible.
                                                                                                         7

complete. The tapestries include: The Gospel of John (completed in 1984), The
Prodigal Son (1987), Mary in the Gospels (1989), St. Paul, Apostle to the
Gentiles (1994), The Stations of the Cross (1995), the Synoptic Gospels (1998),
The Book of Revelation (1999), the Hebrew Prophets (2005) The Book of

                TIME & PLACE:
Sat - 7:30 pm | Main Event Stage

Audrey Assad is an independent singer, musician, and songwriter whose musical
influences range from Paul Simon and the Carpenters to Feist and Jack White. More often
than not she has her nose in a book—usually something by Tolstoy, C.S. Lewis, Pope John
Paul II, or Madeline L'Engle. Born and raised and home-schooled in Scotch Plains, New
Jersey, Audrey worked one of her first jobs in New York City at 16—and she's been an
entrepreneur ever since! After spending a few years in sunny South Florida, Audrey moved
to Nashville, TN and spent 4 years working with Sparrow Records. She married William
Price III in 2011 and she has a great passion for extolling the peculiarities and joys of the
Sacrament. She now makes music for the Church which that Sacrament so vividly
illuminates. In her spare time, Audrey is an avid and adventurous home cook - her
  experiments usually involve bacon.

Her new album “Fortunate Fall” was funded through Kickstarter in the Spring of 2013. She
and her fans raised the goal of $40,000 in 50 hours and ended the campaign with a
bang at nearly 200% of the goal. The album is full of songs for liturgy, personal prayer,
and corporate worship and the title is taken from the Exsultet– "O truly necessary sin of
Adam, destroyed completely by the Death of Christ! O happy fault that earned so great,
so glorious a Redeemer!" “Fortunate Fall” is an alternative translation of “O felix culpa,”
commonly heard as “O happy fault.” The album explores the beauty of human need, in
that needing God allows us to know God is Christ the Redeemer and the Holy Spirit
  the Revealer.

                                                                                              8

               TIME & PLACE:
Sat - 6:30 pm | Main Event Stage

Dan DeMatte is a speaker and evangelist who is passionately dedicated to changing the
way today’s youth view the Church and saintly holiness. Dan works as a youth minister, a
national speaker, and television personality whose mission is to engage young adults in
their faith, taking them on an adventure sharing the fruits of the Catholic Church.

Dan has extensive ministry experience. Serving as a missionary for one year with NET
Ministries, Dan returned to his hometown of Columbus, Ohio to start a dynamic college
ministry at Ohio State University and Ohio Dominican University. While attending Ohio
Dominican University, Dan became a youth minister and worked toward his degrees in
Theology and Philosophy. Today, Dan continues to serve as a youth minister in Columbus,
Ohio while also working as the program director and co-founder for two huge youth
movements: Jesus Jams and Catholic Youth Summer Camp. In just a few short years of
working with young adults, Dan’s programs have ministered to thousands of teens in the
  Columbus area.

Dan has also starred in various television programs, including A&E’s reality show, God or
the Girl, Larry King Live and The View. He has vibrantly shared his testimony on The Today

Friar Pierre Ducharme, OFM - Pilgrimage Walk of Faith Leader
Father Pierre hails from a very large family in the Lower Mainland of British
Columbia. He studied at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, and
Newman Theological College, Edmonton. He professed solemn vows as a
Franciscan Friar in 2010 at St. Mary’s Parish, Cochrane (an event that involved
a memorable outdoor reception with his friends and family on the grounds of
Mount St. Francis Retreat, Cochrane). He was ordained a Priest at Holy Rosary
                          Cathedral, Vancouver, one year later.

For the past three years, Father Pierre has resided with his Franciscan community
at Mount St. Francis. He has served the Franciscans as their vocations director
as well as a formation director. While he has been known to embrace the
Franciscan ideal of itinerancy (he’s on the road a lot), Father Pierre has been
quite involved within the Calgary diocese, assisting in parishes, preaching
missions, and visiting schools, along with some retreat work at the Mount. After
One Rock 2013, Father Pierre will be reassigned by his community to work,
primarily, as a formater to student friars in Edmonton. Like St. Francis, Father
Pierre firmly believes that the gospel can be lived. His has a strong faith and a
bold-hope that he wants to share with the entire world.

Australia, United Kingdom, and several countries in Asia, Africa and
the Middle East. He leads HSI’s flagship Discipleship Program, a
powerful 7-hour retreat that has served not only to transform the lives
of the thousands who have participated, but to empower them to take
the gospel message to others as well. Aneel has also preached retreats
to priests, politicians and prisoners, and addressed millions of viewers
                   on international television.

Special Rosaries

The One Rock Rosary is the first of its kind at One Rock. The rosaries are
handmade by Christians in Israel and the beads are made from olive wood
trees from the Holy land. Attached to the rosary is a One Rock charm to create
a unique rosary that is one of a kind! The rosary is a great way to remember
the one of a kind festival of One Rock 2013 with the celebration of the
centennials of the diocese and WYD 2013.

OFFERTORY HYMN: AMAZING GRACE – MY CHAINS ARE GONE
(JOHN NEWTON, CHRIS TOMLIN & LOUIE GIGLIO)

1. Amazing grace! How sweet the sound
That saved and set me free!
I once was lost, but now am found;
Was blind, but now I see

2. 'Twas grace that taught my heart to fear
And grace my fears relieved.
How precious did that grace appear
The hour I first believed.

Refrain
My chains are gone, I've been set free
My God, my Savior ransomed me
And like a flood His mercy rains
Unending love, amazing grace

3. The Lord has promised good to me
His word my hope secures.
He will my shield and portion be
As long as life endures. Refrain.

4. The earth shall soon dissolve like snow,
The Sun will cease to shine.
But God who called me here below,
Will be forever mine, will be forever mine,
You are forever mine. 28
