OASIS Weekly Feature
Dear Parents and Carers,
As we approach the end of week 4 of the current partial lockdown, I would like to say another huge thank you for
all that you are doing and engaging so well with us with the remote learning provision. I know this is not an easy
time for many of you and you have so many demands that you are trying to juggle. Please just continue to do
whatever you can and do not worry if you cannot do it all. The sessions are all recorded so you can always catch
up at another time when it is more convenient for you and your family circumstances.
I also want to continue to thank all the staff who are working so hard to support our children. They are doing a
fantastic job at embracing the technology and continuing to find new ways to improve the provision and make the
learning opportunities the best that they can during these unusual times.
Schools are being encouraged to have the smallest number of children on site at the moment due to the high
rates of transmission. The most recent Government guidance states that if you are a critical worker but are able
to keep your child at home then please do so. This will really help to keep our staff safe. Here is a link to the
current guidance: https:// www.gov.uk/government/publications/coronavirus-covid-19-maintaining-educational-
provision/guidance-forschools-colleges-and-local-authorities-on-maintaining-educational-provision.
Mental Health and well-being
Next week is Children’s Mental Health Week which is such an important focus for us, particularly at the
moment. Our assemblies will continue to look at how we can support one another with our mental health and
well-being. For more information about Children’s Mental Health Week, please visit Place2Be’s website: https://
www.childrensmentalhealthweek.org.uk/
Curriculum
We are continuing to update the information about our curriculum and have further updated our Art & Design and
DT overview which I have attached and is available on the website. We are also looking forward to welcoming you
to our curriculum update sessions on MS Teams next week with class teachers. If you have not yet responded,
please can you contact teachers directly on the class email to let them know that you will be attending. The
sessions will be recorded if you are not able to make it.
Amazon Wish List
We are in great need of additional whiteboard pens and individual whiteboards for the children. If you can help
and would like to purchase some for the school we have an Amazon wish list and the link is here: https://

9 Habits - February
Compassionate: ‘To be compassionate and kind whilst acting justly’
Compassion is the ability and willingness to place ourselves in the position of another and,
as a result, be able to show kindness to them, without ignoring or dismissing the truth about
their situation.

3Acorn Weekly Feature OASIS
We are in the 4th week of our first Spring Term; there are another two weeks before we break up for half-term - it
feels that time is whizzing by!
Before I share Acorn’s learning experiences with you all, I would like to express my gratitude to Acorn parents for
their relentless commitment and efforts in transforming
remote learning in a most meaningful and effective way. In
the last 4 weeks I have relished extraordinary moments;
every day it fills my heart with tremendous joy when I see
Mandy (Oren’s aunt) helping him with his remote learning
enthusiastically. When I see Benaiah’s, Samuel’s and
Najia’s mum transitioning between three children, it
reminds me of what Nelson Mandela said, “It always
seems impossible until it is done.” This week Aras’s mum
ensured that he didn’t miss out on the Maths and Phonics
lesson and logged into Teams as they were on their way to
attend an appointment. Every week James’, Nika’s, Leila
N’s, Wren’s, Zana’s and Yekta’s parents are taking turns to
ensure their child’s participation in every session and
these efforts are strong indicators that a bend in the road
is not the end; with teamwork and collaboration we are
going to achieve wonderful things!

In English we have been focusing on a book called Little Red and children explored the text through a range of
writing activities, such as identifying the characters in the story, drawing a story map, character description and a set
of instructions for Little Blue to prepare Banana Berry Burst. In Maths, we introduced the concept of grouping and
equal sharing, and children have grasped the idea of systematic counting and it was lovely to hear them saying “one
for you -one for me” as they shared 20 cows equally between five fields. Children used their handprints to create
farm animals and according to Mr Miller, “ Having been fortunate enough to visit art galleries all over the world, I
can honestly say that Abigail’s pig is the
single greatest artistic creation I have ever
seen.”
Throughout the week we have made some
great references to our school habits and
children are demonstrating them consistently
during remote sessions and onsite. The Acorn
children were thrilled to see Miss Hughes
during her virtual drop in during the week.
Last but not least, remember what Socrates,
the Greek philosopher said about change,
“The secret of change is to focus all of our
energy, not on fighting the old, but on
building the new.”
Let’s keep rising by lifting each other.
Stay safe and God bless you all.

Reception
We are in full swing with the online learning! The
Conker
Conker Class is doing very well and sending through
some amazing work!
Even though lots of us are learning online we are
still learning all sorts of things. In Phonics new
sounds are being introduced, in Maths we have
been mastering our counting up to 15 and
exploring more and less with numbers. We are now
starting to learn about grouping and sharing which
will eventually help us to count in 2s. That is very
exciting!
In English we have been reading the story called
Little Red by David Roberts. It is similar to Little Red
Riding Hood. Little Red’s favourite colour is red and
he lives in the Blech Inn with his mum and dad.
They are known for their Famous Ginger Beer. Little
Red rescues his grandma by bribing the Big Bad
Wolf with their Famous Ginger Beer! On Tuesday
we arrived at school to find that Little Red had
disappeared and there was a new owner called
Little Blue! The Blech Inn has changed completely!
Little Blue only made healthy things to eat and
drink, no more Ginger Beer but Berry Banana
Smoothies instead. The Conker Class also had to
come up with their own smoothies – they looked
delicious!

In Year 1 this week we have started a new book
called Astro Girl. It links up nicely with our topic,
Moon Zoom. Birch Class have been showing off their
magnificent imagination in some of their impressive
writing. After starting the book we used our
imagination to create a guide for astronauts training
to go to the moon. Here are two examples written
by Rosie and Rafael. We hope that NASA will use
these for the Artemis Moon Landings Program in
2024.

6OASIS Cherry Weekly Feature
In Science, Cherry Class have been
looking at different materials and their
properties. We collected some materials
and sorted them into man-made and
natural materials. Children were really
good at spotting the differences
between something that is man-made
and something that is natural. We have
also been using our Independent
Learning time to read and talk about
Helen Sharman which was covered in
our topic session. Really great work
everyone!

7Maple Weekly Feature OASIS
Year 2 have had a blast learning about time during the past few weeks! We have even been able to practise our
new skills in everyday life and have been able to tell our teachers and adults what time it is throughout the day.
Although it has been tricky, we have all used this month’s
habit of being ‘patient’ to help us persevere and overcome.
On Monday, we started our new story ‘The Minpins’ and
created some excellent posters using a range of adjectives
to describe a horrible beast living in the forest!
We have also loved starting our topic, ‘Muck, Mess and
Mixtures’ as it has allowed us to be artists and get messy.
We have been looking at primary and secondary colours
and made our very own colour wheel linked to emotions.
The children in school had the chance to use colour pastels
to explore different textures and depth of colour.
Additionally, we had a great time sharing our ‘fun in the
snow’ pictures too from Sunday! Maple Class managed to
make some great snowmen!
I am very proud of the children at home and those children
in school. You all continue to be resilient and amazing at
adapting to new situations.
Keep up the excellent work Maple Class.

8OASIS Rowan Weekly Feature
This week in Rowan Class, we moved onto our new class
text, The Minpins- authored by Roald Dahl! It looks like we
might have a new favoured author! We have been writing
all sorts of fabulous pieces around this book, such as rule
books, warning posters and setting descriptions!
The weekend, however, proved the most exciting part of the last week. The snow finally came and the Rowans
were out in full force! Just look at what fun we were having!

9Willow Weekly Feature OASIS
I'd like to start by saying another huge well done to the lovely Willows. You are all working incredibly hard
during these challenging times and I am so impressed with the progress you are making. Keep it up!
Earlier this week, we started to read our new English book, 'The BFG'. Yesterday, Willows were asked to
create wanted posters for their very own imaginary giants. I couldn't believe how descriptive and imaginative
these were. They were utterly fantastic! Here is a copy of some of their work:
Year 3
In Maths, we have been
continuing to look at
Willow
multiplication and division.
This week, Willow Class were
introduced to the long
multiplication method. I am
very impressed with the way
the children have grasped this
method! It is tricky, at the
best of times, let alone whilst
learning about it through
Teams! Here is copy of some
of their work:

10OASIS Sycamore Weekly Fea-
Look how much fun Sycamore had in the snow this
weekend! What a beautiful and very welcome
Year 3
surprise. The children worked hard in their family
bubbles to create snowmen and I think it’s clear to see
Sycamore
that they enjoyed themselves.
Thank you for another fabulous week of virtual
learning Sycamores. You have adapted so well to all
the changes and are becoming so confident with using
Teams.
This week we started out new book in English, The
BFG. The children wrote some wonderful character
descriptions and have been looking at the way Roald
Dahl uses exciting nouns and verbs. In Maths we have
been continuing working on our multiplication and
division strategies and are now looking at which
strategies will help us solve problems most efficiently.
Well done Sycamore super stars.
Stay safe Mrs Addis
11Holly Weekly Feature OASIS
Year 4 all seemed to have an extra spring in their step on Monday, after the excitement of snow over the
weekend. They shared some lovely memories of making snowmen, sledging and having snowball fights. We
recognised how joyful it had made us
all!
After such an uplifting start to the week,
Holly class got stuck into their learning,
writing their own adventure stories and
starting a new topic in Maths
(decimals).
We are very nearly at the end of our
class text ‘Letters from the Lighthouse.’
The children have done so well to
persevere with this text as we have
reflected on the language and the story
line throughout.
