LEARNING OBJECTIVES

IMLEX programme provides a multidisciplinary and innovative approach combining
Imaging, Lighting and Information Technology. The objective is to educate students in
advanced technologies, methodologies and practical applications with two goals: to
improve the career prospects of graduates and to meet the needs of industry and
society. Students will develop professional and social skills useful in both European
and Japanese cultural context. Graduates will have competences in: Extended reality
(XR): Augmented, Mixed and Virtual Reality (AR, MR, VR); industrial environments with
robots and complex elements; Imaging; Rendering; Lighting

DEPARTMENTS AND TEACHING LOCATIONS

IMLEX teaching is co-organized by the School of Computing and the Department of
Physics and Mathematics. The School of Computing teaching will take place at Joensuu
Science Park, and Physics teaching mainly at the Metria building at the UEF main
campus. The locations are less than 1 km apart.
IMLEX students take many courses together with other MSc students: IMPIT
international students, exchange students and local students at the School of
Computing, and Photonics students at the Department of Physics and Mathematics.

            Registering for the UEF
            courses is via WebOodi

Welcome to UEF
To make everything easier in the beginning, you will have a student tutor. The tutors
will contact you in June, and help you organizing practical matters upon arrival. When
your student tutor contacts you, please reply to the message so that they know you
received it. And as soon as you know your arrival details, please inform your student
tutor about your travel plans.
The student tutors are UEF students themselves who have volunteered to help new
students at the beginning of their studies. The tutors are trained to help the incoming
students to adapt to Finland, to the new town, and to the University of Eastern
Finland. The tutors will help you to familiarise yourself with everyday routines
(studying, shopping, housing) and show you around the town and the university
campus. Tutors are also an excellent source of tips for studying and about other
aspects of student life.
The student tutors may come from other UEF departments and study programmes. If
you wish to have information on the courses or on the content of the studies, please
contact the IMLEX coordinator Laura or the Faculty advisor Mika.
