REGATTA VENUE LINZ-OTTENSHEIM
The regatta venue is located in Ottensheim, an idyllic small town at a distance of 10 kilometres from Linz. The course is situated in a side
branch of the river Danube, making it one of only a handful of natural, non-artificial regatta venues.
After the attribution of the 2019 World Rowing Championships to Linz-Ottensheim, Austria, an extensive investment programme was
started to modernise and expand the regatta venue. A futuristic, flood protected, and fully accessible National Training Centre for both
rowers and canoeists has been constructed that enables to stage international events as the 2020 World Rowing Masters Regatta.

COMPENSATION OF CO2 EMISSIONS
Compensation means that CO2 emissions can be offset by a climate protection project somewhere else in the world.
The Paris Climate Agreement aims at climate neutrality by 2050, that means a balance between additional CO2 emissions and their deple-
tion in sinks - an ambitious goal. Therefore, it is absolutely essential to use all possible instruments that lead to CO2 reduction.
Offsetting emissions begins whenever air or car travel is unavoidable. Consumers can offset unavoidable CO2 emissions by paying for
them. Emissions therefore gain a certain price.
Compensation has several positive effects. On the one hand, it raises consumers’ awareness of their activities and the emissions they
generate. On the other hand, compensation projects have a positive effect on sustainable development in partnership countries, strengt-
hening local sustainability pathways.

VISA REGULATIONS
Citizens from some non-EU countries are required to hold a visa when travelling to the Schengen Area.
The EU has a common list of countries whose citizens must have a visa when crossing the external borders and a list of countries whose
citizens are exempt from that requirement. These lists are set out in Regulation (EU) 2018/1806.
Generally, a short-stay visa issued by one of the Schengen States entitles its holder to travel throughout the 26 Schengen States for up to
90 days in any 180-day period.

K. REGATTA INFORMATION
DOPING CONTROL
Please be aware that several doping control tests will be conducted at the 2020 World Rowing Masters Regatta.
All tests will be conducted in accordance with WADA and FISA requirements. For all information about the
Anti-Doping controls and procedures, please refer to the World Anti-Doping Code and International Standards
available on the website www.wada-ama.org and the FISA Anti-Doping Bye-Laws.

Further information is available on the FISA website.

IDENTIFICATION AND PASSPORT SCAN
All participants of the 2020 World Rowing Masters Regatta must bring a copy of an ID or passport.
It must be carried as means of identification at all times including in the boat during racing and can be
checked for security and safety reasons at any moment. There will also be spot checks on the outgoing
and incoming pontoons and no medal will be handed out without showing appropriate ID.

WORLD ROWING MASTERS DATABASE VERIFICATION
Please note that it is mandatory to get your details (Name, Date of Birth, Gender, Nationality) verified for the
World Rowing Masters Database before being allowed to race. If you have had your details verified in one of
the previous World Rowing Masters regattas, you would not need to do it again.

MEDALS
Medals will be awarded to winners of each heat. If the number of entries in an event exceeds the number
of racing lanes, the entries will be divided into two or more heat finals. A separate classification will take
place and prizes will be awarded for each age category, even when the race is held together with other
age groups. This applies to both men’s and women’s events.
20

CREW CHANGES
As per rule 59 of the FISA rule book, crew changes are only permitted up to 1 hour
before the start of the crew‘s race. Entries must be made in the name of a bona fide club
registered with its national federation. A substitute shall not be permitted if the age of
the substituting rower would lower the average age of the crew by more than one year or
change the age category of that crew. Masters crews will also be allowed to invite a substi-
tute from another club. However, this would make a pure club crew, a composite crew and
ineligible for the club trophy points, but they would continue to be eligible for the medals.

ZONAL UMPIRING
At World Rowing Masters Regattas, zonal umpiring positions shall be used, in order to
eliminate washes from motor boats. There are normally no motor boats following the
races; the number of such boats on the water will be kept to the minimum needed to
ensure safety, efficient operation and maintenance of the course. At the discretion of the
FISA Masters Commission and/or President of the Jury, an Umpire’s launch may be used to
follow races.

EXCEPTIONAL CASES
In exceptional cases (e.g. suspension of the regatta), the necessary decisions will be made
by the Competition Manager after consultation with the President of the Jury and the
Chair of the FISA Masters Commission. On behalf of the Executive Committee, the FISA
Masters Commission shall adjudicate on all cases not covered by the racing rules, the bye-
laws and the present regulations, as well as on disputes which may arise during any World
Rowing Masters Regatta. The decision of the FISA Masters Commission shall be final.

                                                                                                www.wrmr2020.com
