• 2020 is a special year for the club as we celebrate our
  Tricentenary
• To mark the occasion we had a series of events lined
up including the biannual and world famous Volvo
Cork Week, the Optimist Nationals, the Laser
Nationals, and the All Ireland Sailing Championships
• Unfortunately the COVID-19 pandemic had a severe
impact on the hosting of these events so we are
extending our celebrations into 2021 and 2022

Organisational Plan
• The RCYC have an Executive Committee who set the direction and govern club activities, this is lead by the Admiral.
• The day to day operations of the club are managed by General Manager, Gavin Deane.
• For National and International dinghy events, the Rear Admiral Dinghies appoints an event Chairperson, the
Chairperson will then appoint an event committee.
• The event committee will consist of at least the chairperson, general manager, on the water lead, shoreside and
volunteer lead and a safety lead. Each of these leads will create their own plans and sub-committees if required. A
member of the International 505 Class would be invited to sit on this committee where appropriate and would
likely liaise with fellow committee members digitally via MS teams.
• For the purposes of the bid, we won’t cover detailed plans in their totality but plans would cover-
    • Shoreside: Logistics support, race office, results, noticeboards, IU and IJ considerations, site management and
safety, boat parking, volunteers, activities and entertainment, bar and catering, communications etc.
    • Water based: Required vessels, mark laying equipment, RO equipment and support, IJ and IU equipment and
support, safety, media, coach boats, volunteers, racing, sailors, IJ and IU considerations etc.
Personnel
Staff: The RCYC has 10 full time staff including a General
Manager, office administrators and marina/racing staff. All of
these staff will endeavour to ensure the success off the 505
World Championships.

Shoreside Volunteers: We pride ourselves on being a club run
by sailors, for sailors. We have a strong volunteer pool who
have huge experience in event management for large classes
from Cork Week with 5,000+ competitors to ISAF Match Racing
Events to International Dinghy Events.

Race Officials: Within the club itself we have a number of
International and National race officers as certified by Irish
Sailing and ISAF plus good relationships with many more in
Ireland whom we lean on as an when we need to. Likewise can
be said of Umpires and Judges and Safety personnel.

Accommodation
There are many options when planning your trip to Crosshaven, these include:

•Hotels
•Houses and B&B’s
•AirBnB
•Motor Homes (on site)
•Camping (on site)

In August many local residents will leave Crosshaven on their holidays and homes become
available. Local agents often assist for big events, for Volvo Cork Week 2020 they had arranged to
let out close to 50 homes locally before the event was cancelled.

The local areas of Carrigaline, Monkstown, Douglas, Kinsale and Cork City also offer plenty of
accommodation and are within close drive of Crosshaven with little to no traffic to consider in
August.
Enjoying Your Stay
