A Message from Pastor Jason
                Youth Ministry is…
In just a month we will be embarking on a
new school year (yeah, sorry to be the
bearer of that reality) and with that comes
some exciting things happening here at
Our Savior’s with our middle and high
school youth. We will begin faith
formation classes (Confirmation) for our middle school
youth on Wednesday, September 8, and then high
school youth group gatherings on the 2nd Sunday of
each month starting on September 12. Theses two
ministries are direct ways in which we as a congregation
live into the promises we made at baptism to the youth
of our faith community to teach and accompany them
on their faith journey. I take my role in fulfilling that
promise very seriously and strive to create a safe space
where youth ministry is:
Real: Teenagers have the uncanny ability to sniff out the
least bit of inauthenticity. Our time together will be filled
with failure stories and real-life transparency. Our topics
will matter to students, be guided by students questions
and experiences, and when we gather there don't have
to be pretenses. Youth can be who they are and who
God is creating them to be without putting on a
performance.
Relational: While programs are important, there is
nothing better than time spent building relationships
with God and with one another. At FLY we’ll provide
opportunities for growing these relationships.
Relevant: One of the strongest advantages to youth
ministry is the ability to relate the timeless truths of God
to the teenage life. Being relevant doesn’t mean I’ll ever
achieve being super trendy, it simply means creating
ministry experiences that are relevant to the life of a
teenager, listening to their ideas and questions, and
moving in the direction of the gospel as it informs their
lives. Our ministry must matter to students or it no
longer exists.
Relaxed: It is the hope that when youth show up at
church, their shoulders drop as the tension is released
from their bodies. That the worries and pressures
teenage life are put aside, even if only for an hour or
two.
I am so excited to get started and see what this next
step in this journey holds.
It is always a blessing to be walking alongside you.
+Pastor Jason

A Message from our President
The Church Board met on July 8, 2021. There were three
topics that took a great deal of time and discussion.
First, we had a lengthy discussion about finances, the
amount to try to hold in savings as a cash reserve to
help cover the short fall in offerings through the
summer months when giving drops. The decision was to
try to maintain an amount equal to 3 months of
expenses or about $118,000. The financial reports from
May 31, 2021 showed a balance in the general savings
of $223,000. The offering number was at $147,000.,
which is 33% of the budgeted number of $450,000., in
simple numbers we would like to see 41.6% of budget
after 5 months or $187,500.. The board understands
that giving increases in the last quarter of the year, that
is why a cash reserve is important to have. Expense
numbers are $205,000. or about 43% of the budget
number of $472,000., or about 1.5% over budget. This
led to discussion about a Stewardship committee and

families with children to return to church. Some families

Autumn Bible Study…
Coming in September
“I Lift Up My Eyes to the Hills”
A Study of the Songs of Ascent
Pastor Tony’s Autumn Bible Study will look at
Psalms 120-134, the “Songs of Ascent” used
in ancient Israel for pilgrimage journeys. As
we journey through life and face many
obstacles on the road, these psalms ground
us in our true source of hope and guide us SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 12
to dwell in communion with God.
Coming out of the pandemic, we are excited
