ANTHEM (said by the Officiant)

I am Resurrection and I am Life, says the Lord.
Whoever has faith in me shall have life,
even though he die.
And everyone who has life,
and has committed himself to me in faith,
shall not die for ever.

As for me, I know that my Redeemer lives
and that at the last he will stand upon the earth.
After my awaking, he will raise me up;
and in my body I shall see God.
I myself shall see, and my eyes behold him
who is my friend and not a stranger.

For none of us has life in himself,
and none becomes his own master when he dies.

                                            2
For if we have life, we are alive in the Lord,
and if we die, we die in the Lord.
So, then, whether we live or die,
we are the Lord's possession.

SALUTATION AND COLLECTS OF THE DAY
Officiant The Lord be with you.
People And also with you.
Officiant Let us pray.

Silence is kept, after which the Officiant says the following Collects

O God, whose mercies cannot be numbered: Accept our prayers on behalf of your
servant Jeremy, and grant him an entrance into the land of light and joy, in the
fellowship of your saints; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with
you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

Most merciful God, whose wisdom is beyond our understanding, deal graciously
with all those who grieve. Surround them with your love, that they may not be

A READING FROM THE HEBREW SCRIPTURES Lamentations 3:22-26, 31-33
The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases,
  his mercies never come to an end;
they are new every morning;
  great is your faithfulness.
‘The Lord is my portion,’ says my soul,
‘therefore I will hope in him.’
The Lord is good to those who wait for him,
to the soul that seeks him.
It is good that one should wait quietly
for the salvation of the Lord.
For the Lord will not
  reject for ever.
Although he causes grief, he will have compassion
  according to the abundance of his steadfast love;
for he does not willingly afflict
  or grieve anyone.
Lector The word of the Lord.
People Thanks be to God.

PSALM 139:1-11 Domine, probasti
1 LORD, you have searched me out and known
  me; *
    you know my sitting down and my rising up;
you discern my thoughts from afar.

                                           4
2 You trace my journeys and my resting-places *
and are acquainted with all my ways.
3 Indeed, there is not a word on my lips, *
but you, O LORD, know it altogether.
4 You press upon me behind and before *
and lay your hand upon me.
5 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; *
it is so high that I cannot attain to it.
6 Where can I go then from your Spirit? *
where can I flee from your presence?
7 If I climb up to heaven, you are there; *
if I make the grave my bed, you are there also.
8 If I take the wings of the morning *
and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea,
9 Even there your hand will lead me *
and your right hand hold me fast.
10 If I say, "Surely the darkness will cover me, *
and the light around me turn to night,"
11 Darkness is not dark to you;
the night is as bright as the day; *
darkness and light to you are both alike.

A READING FROM THE NEW TESTAMENT Revelation 21:2-7
And I saw the holy city, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from
God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from
the throne saying, ‘See, the home of God is among mortals. He will dwell with
them; they will be his peoples, and God himself will be with them; he will wipe
every tear from their eyes. Death will be no more; mourning and crying and pain
                                        5
will be no more, for the first things have passed away.’ And the one who was
seated on the throne said, ‘See, I am making all things new.’ Also he said, ‘Write
this, for these words are trustworthy and true.’ Then he said to me, ‘It is done! I
am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. To the thirsty I will
give water as a gift from the spring of the water of life. Those who conquer will
inherit these things, and I will be their God and they will be my children.
Lector The word of the Lord.
People Thanks be to God.

PSALM 27 Dominus illuminatio
1 The LORD is my light and my salvation;
whom then shall I fear? *
    the LORD is the strength of my life;
of whom then shall I be afraid?
2 When evildoers came upon me to eat up my flesh, *
it was they, my foes and my adversaries, who
                stumbled and fell.
3 Though an army should encamp against me, *
    yet my heart shall not be afraid;
4 And though war should rise up against me, *
yet will I put my trust in him.
5 One thing have I asked of the LORD;
   one thing I seek; *
that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days
                of my life;
6 To behold the fair beauty of the LORD *
and to seek him in his temple.

                                         6
7 For in the day of trouble he shall keep me safe
                  in his shelter; *
he shall hide me in the secrecy of his dwelling
and set me high upon a rock.
8 Even now he lifts up my head *
above my enemies round about me.
9 Therefore I will offer in his dwelling an oblation
with sounds of great gladness; *
I will sing and make music to the LORD.
10 Hearken to my voice, O LORD, when I call; *
have mercy on me and answer me.
11 You speak in my heart and say, "Seek my face." *
Your face, LORD, will I seek.
12 Hide not your face from me, *
nor turn away your servant in displeasure.
13 You have been my helper;
   cast me not away; *
do not forsake me, O God of my salvation.
14 Though my father and my mother forsake me, *
     the LORD will sustain me.
15 Show me your way, O LORD; *
lead me on a level path, because of my enemies.
16 Deliver me not into the hand of my adversaries, *
for false witnesses have risen up against me,
and also those who speak malice.
17 What if I had not believed
that I should see the goodness of the LORD *
in the land of the living!
                                      7
18 O tarry and await the LORD'S pleasure;
be strong, and he shall comfort your heart; *
    wait patiently for the LORD.

Officiant The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to John.
People Glory to you, Lord Christ.

Martha said to Jesus, ‘Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have
died. But even now I know that God will give you whatever you ask of him.’ Jesus
said to her, ‘Your brother will rise again.’ Martha said to him, ‘I know that he will
rise again in the resurrection on the last day.’ Jesus said to her, ‘I am the
resurrection and the life. Those who believe in me, even though they die, will
live, and everyone who lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe
this?’ She said to him, ‘Yes, Lord, I believe that you are the Messiah, the Son of
God, the one coming into the world.’

THE APOSTLES’ CREED
Officiant In the assurance of eternal life given at Baptism, let us proclaim
             our faith and say:

I believe in God, the Father almighty,
                  creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord.
He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit
and born of the Virgin Mary.
                  He suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried.
                  He descended to the dead.
On the third day he rose again.
                  He ascended into heaven,
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
                  the holy catholic Church,
                  the communion of saints,
                  the forgiveness of sins,
                  the resurrection of the body,
                  and the life everlasting. Amen.

Said together
THE LORD’S PRAYER
Officiant And now, as our Savior Christ has taught us, we are bold to say,

Our Father, who art in heaven,
                 hallowed be thy Name,
                                         9
thy kingdom come,
              thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven
Give us this day our daily bread.
             And forgive us our trespasses,
              as we forgive those
                who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
              but deliver us from evil.
             For thine is the kingdom,
and the power, and the glory,
              for ever and ever. Amen.

THE PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE
Officiant For our brother Jeremy, let us pray to our Lord Jesus Christ who said,
"I am Resurrection and I am Life."

Lord, you consoled Martha and Mary in their distress; draw near to
us who mourn for Jeremy, and dry the tears of those who weep.
             Hear us, Lord.

You wept at the grave of Lazarus, your friend; comfort us in our
             sorrow.
             Hear us, Lord.

You raised the dead to life; give to our brother eternal life.
             Hear us, Lord.

                                        10
You promised paradise to the thief who repented; bring our
brother to the joys of heaven.
              Hear us, Lord.

Our brother was washed in Baptism and anointed with the Holy
Spirit; give him fellowship with all your saints.
              Hear us, Lord.

He was nourished with your Body and Blood; grant him a place at
the table in your heavenly kingdom.
              Hear us, Lord.

Comfort us in our sorrows at the death of our brother; let our faith
be our consolation, and eternal life our hope.

Silence is kept. The Officiant concludes with the following prayer

Officiant Father of all, we pray to you for Jeremy, and for all those whom we

perpetual shine upon them. May his soul and the souls of all the
departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.

– THE COMMENDATION –

The following anthem is said

Officiant Give rest, O Christ, to your servants with your saints,
People where sorrow and pain are no more, neither sighing, but life
               everlasting.

Officiant You only are immortal, the creator and maker of mankind; and we
are mortal, formed of the earth, and to earth shall we return. For so
did you ordain when you created me, saying, "You are dust, and to
dust you shall return." All of us go down to the dust; yet even at the
grave we make our song: Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia.

Officiant Give rest, O Christ, to your servant with your saints,
People where sorrow and pain are no more, neither sighing, but life
               everlasting.

The Officiant, facing the remains, says

Officiant Into your hands, O merciful Savior, we commend your servant
Jeremy. Acknowledge, we humbly beseech you, a sheep of your
own fold, a lamb of your own flock, a sinner of your own
redeeming. Receive him into the arms of your mercy, into the
blessed rest of everlasting peace, and into the glorious company of
               the saints in light. Amen.

The Officiant blesses and dismisses the people

Jeremy Richard Barrett
                         19 January 1963 – 10 July 2021

Jeremy was born on 19Jan1963 in Bindura, Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe), Africa to
Verna and Patrick Barrett. He attended Blakiston Primary and Alan Wilson high
school, where he took up competitive rowing. Jeremy coxed for Hunyani
Rowing Club and was awarded his National Rhodesian Junior Colours in 1978.

Jeremy continued rowing after he left school and joined Hunyani Rowing Club
as a senior member. He achieved many wins as a Single sculler, Pairs, Coxed and
Coxless Fours and Eights over the years, also breaking a number of records. He
studied Civil Engineering in Salisbury, Rhodesia and joined the Ministry of
Water Development, becoming involved in the construction of dams within the
country.

Changing course, he decided to study Chemical Engineering and earned a
degree in 1988 from Witwatersrand University in Johannesburg, South
Africa. Jeremy then began his career working in the ammonium nitrate and
nitric acid industry, which remained the primary focus of his professional
career.

While working with ammonium nitrate in South Africa Jeremy was
instrumental in the creation of a revolutionary improvement in spray head
prilling technology. Jeremy and an engineering group, similar in age and
experience, oversaw the design, installation and commissioning of the
promising new technology, and they have remained close friends ever since.

                                       14
As a result of the project’s success, Jeremy was recognized by his employer, ICI
Australia (later Orica) and relocated to Gladstone, Queensland Australia in 1992
to implement a similar prilling system at the Yarwun site. After the project was
completed, Jeremy was promoted to the position of technical manager,
responsible for continued improvement of ammonium nitrate prilling. During
this period, he successfully led the effort to significantly increase production
capability.

In 2003 he was appointed as global technical manager for Orica and moved to
Newcastle, Australia. During this time, Jeremy identified, arranged purchase for
and relocated an existing nitric acid facility in Denmark, which was
subsequently moved to and installed in Yarwun, Australia. Additionally, Jeremy
was called on to manage an ammonium nitrate facility in the Philippines, and
consult on a large-scale modernization of a nitric acid plant in Geneva,
Utah. These projects, along with others Jeremy oversaw and / or implemented,
led to the most financially successful period for Orica on record.

During his time in Australia Jeremy became quite involved in sailing, competing
successfully in numerous regattas and ocean races off the coast of Queensland
with his boats Lightning and Slingshot. He also become involved in cycling
during this time, having cycled back and forth to work and eventually acquired a
proper road bike for competition.

In 2011 Jeremy was approached by the ownership group of Apache Nitrogen,
located in Benson, Arizona and offered the position of General Manager and
President. During his 10 years as manager Jeremy, and a team of dedicated
employees, have increased overall ammonium nitrate production, worked to
remove government-imposed legacy restrictions, and continue modernization
of the facility.

                                       15
Jeremy’s love of cycling was furthered by the active Tucson cycling community,
where he was a regular fixture at the Saturday morning Shoot-out group ride
and Sunday rides up Mt. Lemmon. Jeremy won several age group AZ State
Championships for criterium races and hill climbs.

Jeremy had lately started racing his Pearson 39 sailing yacht Passion in San
Diego, CA, racing for Silver Gate Yacht Club.

Jeremy’s tragic passing has created a huge void in the lives of his family and
many friends across the many facets of his life. His kindness, warmth and
generosity made him so deeply loved and respected. Jeremy will be forever
remembered by the many people whose lives he has influenced and will
continue to inspire us all to live our lives to the fullest with kindness and
enthusiasm.
