SYNOPSIS
Isabella is a driven business woman in
Stockholm’s finance world. When she goes
home to the small town she grew up in to
celebrate her father’s sixtieth birthday, she feels
like a winner, the only one in her old school gang
who things have really gone well for. Isabella’s
selfconfidence falters when she realizes that
Simon, her great love from her teen years, is
going to marry Isabella’s childhood friend Molly,
and that she isn’t invited to the wedding. Isabella
is accustomed to getting what she wants, and
it disturbs her to see Simon so happy with
someone else. Unfortunately, there are some
feelings that never go away.
A PIECE OF MY HEART is based on the musical
work of legendary Swedish artist Tomas Ledin.
Lyrics that tell timeless stories of humanity and
refrains that have taken hold of generations of
listeners inspired the story and are woven into
dialogues throughout the film. Paying tribute to
Tomas Ledin, who accompanied ABBA as backing
vocalist on their world tour in 1979-1980 and
represented Sweden at the 25th edition of
Eurovision Song Contest with his first number
one hit “Right Now” (Original title “Just Nu!”), A
PIECE OF MY HEART‘s ambition is to create new
versions of his songs that respect the originals
and include his music as it was composed

SYNOPSIS
JC, a young Filipino man is forced to take over the
family business set by his estranged tyrant father,
a lonesome motel in the remote wilderness,
providing shelter to illegal immigrants on behalf
of the Government. But as JC and the guests
soon discover, Motel Acacia is home to a dark
and ancient spirit, which devours men and
impregnates women. With food running out
and a violent blizzard preventing the guests to
leave, a desperate fight for survival begins. In an
attempt rid himself from his father’s shadow, JC
risks losing his own humanity.

Bradley Liew is a Malaysian-born, Philippines-
based filmmaker, who made his feature
debut as a director in 2016 with SINGING IN
GRAVEYARDS, which premiered at the Venice
International Film Festival Critics’ Week. An
alumnus of the Asian Film Academy of the Busan
International Film Festival, the NAFF Fantastic
Film School, Berlinale Talents, Tokyo Talents,
Locarno Filmmakers Academy, EAVE Ties That
Bind and the Sam Spiegel International Film Lab.
He produced Lav Diaz’s Berlinale Competition
feature, SEASON OF THE DEVIL (2018).

SYNOPSIS
Claire (13) is vacationing with her sister Zoe
and mother Sophie at a resort hotel in southern
Spain. Sophie spends her days by the pool and
shows a minimum of interest in her daughters.
In the beginning Claire clings to her older sister
Zoe, who mercifully lets her tag along. But when
Zoe meets a boy her own age, Claire is left
alone. By the beach Claire befriends Amram,
a young Senegalese beach vendor. As their
relationship deepens, Claire tries to help him,
but unintentionally ends up making his desolate
situation even worse.
DIRECTOR
Carolina Hellsgård is a writer-director, born
in Sweden and based in Berlin. After studying
experimental media design in Berlin and film
at Cal Arts in L.A., she made her feature debut
with WANJA, which premiered at the Berlinale
2015 and was nominated for the Berlinale Best
First Feature Award. In 2017, she was a Villa
Aurora Fellow in Los Angeles. ENDZEIT - EVER
AFTER, Carolina‘s second feature film world
premiered in official selection at Toronto IFF
in 2018, and is the first zombie film with an all-
female team. SUNBURNED is Carolinas third
feature film as a director.

SYNOPSIS
Viorel, a quiet, upright tractor driver from a small
town in west Romania meets Mocanu, a high
profile politician campaigning for a seat in the
European Parliament. Mocanu’s car has broken
down nearby and Viorel and his wife welcome
the politician into their humble home. Under
investigation for corruption, Mocanu sees an
opportunity and decides to stay with this modest
family during the rest of the campaign, winning
people’s hearts by posing as a common man
next to his “old friend”, the honest, hard-working
farmer. In return, Viorel will get a new tractor.
DIRECTOR
Marian Crisan was born in 1976 in Salonta, West
Romania. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in
Film and TV Directing at UNATC Bucharest in
1999. His short film MEGATRON won the Palme
d’Or for Best Short Film at the 2008 Cannes Film
Festival. In 2010, his first feature film MORGEN
won the Special Jury Prize at the 63rd Edition
of the Locarno Film Festival, and was also the
Romanian entry for the 84th Academy Awards.
THE CAMPAIGN is his fourth feature, after
drug drama ROCKER in 2012, and crime thriller
ORIZONT in 2015.

SYNOPSIS
Summer 1961: Emil is working as an extra at
the DEFA studios in Babelsberg, East Germany
when he falls head over heels in love with a
French dancer named MILOU. The two young
lovebirds are obviously meant for each other, but
the building of the Berlin Wall soon tears them
apart. It looks like they will never see each other
again, that is, until Emil has a crazy idea: he’s
going to produce a movie and bring Milou back to
Babelsberg!
DIRECTOR
Martin Schreier (b. 1980) began making short
films at the age of 10. After attending the German
Film School in Berlin, he went on to study feature
film direction at the Film Academy Baden-
Württemberg. In 2009, he received a scholarship
to attend the Hollywood Master Class at UCLA.
In 2010, his student film THE NIGHT FATHER
CHRISTMAS DIED was nominated for a Student
Oscar by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts
and Sciences. Schreier’s full-length movie
UNSERE ZEIT IST JETZT (Our time is now) was
co-produced by WARNER BROS and made
its way to cinemas in 2016. TRAUMFABRIK is
Martin’s second feature film.

SYNOPSIS
Afraid of being left alone as the youngest of the
family, Sam begins his own made up ‘aloneness
training’ during his holiday on the Dutch island
Terschelling. But by meeting the elusive Tess,
who carries a big secret, he is drawn into an
adventure that makes him realize that you should
cherish your family instead of fleeing. Sam makes
a drastic decision that puts his special friendship
with Tess at risk and will change Tess‘ life forever.

Steven Wouterlood was born in 1984 in
Utrecht, The Netherlands. In 2013 he directed
ANYTHING GOES, a children’s movie for
television. The film won an International Emmy
Kids Award in New York, a TIFF Kids Award
in Toronto and multiple other awards and
nominations around the world. In 2015 Steven
directed the short movie KING’S DAY. This
film also won several awards, including a TIFF
Kids Award. His TV series REMI, NOBODY’S
BOY (2016), based on the renowned novel by
Hector Malot, was nominated for an Emmy

SYNOPSIS
When Walbrzych experiences a series of mysterious
child kidnappings, Alicja Tabor, a journalist, shows
up in town. After years of absence the tenacious
reporter returns home to meet the families of
the missing children and solve a mystery which
puzzles even the police. During her private
investigation, Alicja quite unexpectedly picks up
a trail of dramatic events which started decades
earlier. In her quest for truth, the journalist faces
a new threat as well as the one she had been
running away from her entire adult life – the

SYNOPSIS

Marie Kreutzer was born in Graz, Austria, in
1977 and studied screenwriting at the Film
Academy Vienna. Her first feature length film,
THE FATHERLESS, premiered at the Berlin Film
Festival in the Panorama Special sidebar in 2011,
receiving Special Mention for ‘Best First Feature‘.
Her second film, GRUBER IS LEAVING (2015),
was nominated for the Austrian Film Award and
won Special Mention as ‘Best Film‘ at the Zurich
Film Festival. In 2016, her third feature film WE

It‘s double trouble when fate and an ill-executed

Mel, a professional criminal and single mum
looking to pull off her greatest coup, and her
nerdy, easily panic-stricken hostage Franny are
soon pursued by the relentless detective Ingrid,

fighting pair have to dispose of the loot in the face
of a Berlin underworld also determined to get its

As the forces of law and disorder close in,
Franny develops a liking for Mel, deciding she

enthusiastic, especially given Franny‘s idea of
support. With no choice the odd couple soon
become a perfect tag team.

Harry to her collection of hostages and Franny

SYNOPSIS
THE BEAST IN THE JUNGLE is a film adaptation
of Henry James’ 19th century novella of the
same name. Set in a remote English country
mansion and stretching from the Jamesian era
to a globalized present-day setting, the film uses
dance to recount the epic and unconventional
love story of John Marcher (Dane Jeremy Hurst)
and May Bartram (Sarah Reynolds). During a
chance encounter ten years after first meeting,
May reminds John that he once revealed to her
a deep and menacing conviction that his life
would be defined by a life-changing experience
– one that was waiting for him “like a Beast in
the Jungle.” Intrigued by his continued belief in
this foreboding secret, May decides to stay by
John’s side and soon develops feelings of genuine
love for him. John is not able to reciprocate
her devotion, preferring instead to resume his
shallow life as a travelling businessman. Only
when it’s too late, does John realize that the
beast had already sprung into the jungle of his life.

SYNOPSIS
ALMA AND OSKAR explores the passionate and
tumultuous three-year relationship between the
Grand Dame of Viennese society Alma Mahler
(1879-1964) and the Austrian artist and enfant
terrible Oskar Kokoschka (1886-1980). In the
early 1900s, Kokoschka was an up-and-coming
painter, influenced by the work of Gustav Klimt
yet with his own distinctive expressionist style.
Considered one of the greatest expressionist
artists of the 20th century, Kokoschka created
his most famous work using Alma as a model, and
the years of their relationship marked the most
prodigious period in his life. A composer in her
own right, Alma Mahler was a vibrant figure on
Vienna’s art and music scene, and by the time
she started her fiery affair with Kokoschka, she
had already buried her first husband, composer
Gustav Mahler, and begun an on-again-off-again
relationship with architect Walter Gropius.
