ASF in Slovakia – state of play
             – year 2021 – till 12.07.2021

• Year 2021: 747 ADNS + 473 ADIS reports ( incl one by domestic pigs, other WB)
• 473 ADIS reports- 19 regions affected
• ONE new region incuded in the part II - KEZMAROK north-east part of Slovakia
  ASF- 2021
• the reaction of occurrence of positivity WB still in part II but in the near
  proximity of part I
• the new part III – established in district LUČENEC – due to positive outbreak in
  domestic pigs ( confirmed on 22/06/2021)

ASF in domestic pigs
• The first ASF outbreak in 2021
• In the district Lučenec – disease never occurred before
• Confirmation on 21.6.2021
• commercial farm 8.000 pigs
• ADIS message SK-ASF-2021-00436
• Lučenec district cca.7 km from slovak-hungarian border
• Protection zone and surveillance zone demarcated
• The veterinary measures in force in accordance with
  relevant legislation - the movement of pigs prohibited
• The depopulation of holding has started immediately on
  23.06.2021 –and already finished

ASF in domestic pigs- Lučenec farm -
            epidemiological investigation
• ASF monitoring in place - every week (2 samples) – 14.6.-18.6. (negative results)
• The first clinical signs by 6 fattening pigs 19.-20.6.2021 – in appetence, fever 40-41
  °C, mortality, pathological changes observed-splenomegaly
• 21.6. 2021 confirmation (all samples of dead swine positive)
• Expected introduction of ASFV – 11.6.-15.6.2021
• Movement pigs from the farm in June 2021 – only slovak slaughterhouses
• No movement of pigs from the farm into the MS
• High level of biosecurity - the establishment of the ‘clean’ and ‘dirty’ areas for
  personnel, stock-proof fencing, cleaning and disinfection of the premises...
                      • Possible source - Fomites? Insects? Rodents?
• contact WB/domestic swine practically excluded ( no footprints of WB; solid fence)

Summary - wild boars
 • 1 further updates of zones - Kežmarok – whole district into part II
 • In new infected area – measures adapted as necessary for part II hunting
   grounds , pigs holdings)
 • Restart of trainings of hunters – end of this month ( June 2021)

                     Summary – domestic pigs
• All veterinary measures in outbreak, protection zone and surveillance zone – in
  force/ordered/adopted
• New infected zone III in region Lučenec
• Eradication of ASF outbreak – finished
• No further ASF outbreak in the infected region
Acitivities and competences of the SVFA/CVO
• The Chief Veterinarian of the Slovak Republic (CVO) plays a key role in the entire process of protection of the Slovak Republic
  and it is highly desirable that he be temporarily granted extensive competencies and powers.
                                   Key temporary powers during the ASF crisis include to enable :
• the extraordinary subordination of hunting organizations and hunting grounds to the competence of CVO
• the imposition of measures aimed at increasing the wild game hunting plan directly to hunting grounds (In districts without a
  positive finding in wild game and in a buffer zone next to the districts with a positive finding in wild game, the wild game must
  be reduced to close to 0. This rule must be applied across the board, with no exceptions for protected areas of any kind of .
  degree.)
• effective and efficient controls of the hunting plans based on the samples examined
• an extraordinary regulation of the exercise of the hunting right for all hunters, regardless of the local affiliation to the hunting
  ground
• To allow the authorization of unauthorized hunting practices

Moreover
• Ask other ministries for co-operation and request activities related to the elimination of the spread of the disease
• To enable the granting of an exemption for forms of hunting and baiting also for protected areas of the Slovak Republic
• the performance of rodent control, disinfection, disinfection if the situation requires
