Biography
AN INTERNATIONAL BACKGROUND
Clémence Verniau is a French actress born in Paris
but she spent her childhood and teenage years in
foreign countries as Italy (Rome), China (Nanjing), In-
donesia (Jakarta) and New Zealand (Wellington).
When 19 years old, she went back to China in order to
begin her acting training in The BEIJING FILM INSTI-
TUTE for two years. Between 1999 and 2001 she took
part in a Chinese play called « Beijing wu dongtian
» where she had the main role then, she did several
Chinese TV shows.
YEARS OF EXPERIENCE
Back in Paris in 2001, Clémence carried on her training
in the Cours Florent, where she became, in 2008, a
drama teacher for Chinese students whishing to learn
the French acting method.
Between 2005 and 2009, Clémence’s first experiences
were on the stage, with several plays in Parisian
theatres.
Wishing to develop an international career, Clémence
took part of an Anglo-Saxon training method from
the London Drama Centre with Giles Forman (GFCA,
Paris) who introduces her to the « character analysis/
movement psychology », created by Yat Malmgren
and Christopher Fettes. An acting technique used
by Colin Firth, Anthony Hopkins, Tom Hardy, Michael
Fassbender... In order to build, extraordinary layered
characters. Then, she learnt the Meisner technique
(helping the actor to behave instinctively in the sur-
rounding environment) with the Belgian Pico Breiko-
witch and the English Dannie-Lu Carr, great specialists
of the technique.
Biography FROM ACTING TO WRITING Clémence has played in several short films of different styles and universes. She stands out in « Dolorosa », the ambitious short film of Christophe Debacq, produced by Metaluna Produc- tions where she plays the main role of a young woman, locked up in a cell. In 2016, Clémence took part in Talal Selhami’s second feature film « Achoura » and in Christophe Barratier’s « L’Outsider ». In 2018, the Turkish director Olgün Ozdemir gave her the opportunity to get her first main role for his film « Kizim Gibi Kokuyorsun ». Her character, Béatrice, a French woman of Armenian origin looses her parents, her hus- band and daughter during the terrorism attack of Nice, in 2016. She decides to bury the bodies of her family in a small Armenian village in Turkey where she meets a young Yezidi woman refugee, who escaped from the hands of her captors. Specializing in children’s voices and cartoons, Clé- mence does several voice-overs in dubbing studios. At the same time, she does some translations and actors coaching on international movies sets. Passionate about writing and filmmaking and inspired by the worlds of David Lynch, Wong Kar Wai and Alejan- dro Gonzalez Inarritu, Clémence has written short films « The Glove », « The Red Rope » and a play « Interview with a stripper ». In 2017, she achieved the screenplay of her first long feature film « A bras-le-corps », selected by the House of Screenwriters and Wefilmgood to be represented at the Cannes Film Festival in 2019.
