General MM Naravane, COAS visited Mhow on 10 March 2021. At Army War College, he addressed the faculty &
student officers attending JOCAP on the aspects of Military Strategy, Joint Planning & Joint Operations and emphasised
on professional excellence through creative learning. At Infantry School, the COAS interacted with the faculty &
student officers attending various courses and impressed upon the faculty to further align the training curriculum with
contours of future conflicts.

The COAS visited Rura Village in Sitapur District, Uttar Pradesh on 19 March 2021 to pay homage and dedicate the
memorial of Captain Manoj Kumar Pandey, PVC. Family members of the PVC awardee, senior government officials
and ex-servicemen were also present during the occasion. Later, the COAS visited HQ Central Command in Lucknow
and was briefed by the GOC-in-C on the state of operational preparedness of the Central Army.

                               EXERCISE VAJRA PRAHAR 2021
The 11th edition of Indo-US joint special forces ‘Exercise Vajra Prahar 2021’ was conducted at Special
Forces Training School located at Bakloh, in Himachal Pradesh. The exercise was aimed at improving
interoperability between the special forces of the two countries, which shared best practices and
experiences in areas such as joint mission planning and operational tactics. Bilateral military exercises
and defence exchanges are an important facet of deepening bilateral defence cooperation between the
two countries.

                                       EXERCISE 'DUSTLIK II'
Second edition of annual India – Uzbekistan joint military exercise ‘DUSTLIK II’ was conducted at
Foreign Training Node Chaubatia, Ranikhet (Uttarakhand) from 10 March to 19 March 2021. The first
edition of the exercise was held at Uzbekistan in November 2019. 45 Soldiers each from Uzbekistan and
Indian Army participated in the exercise. Both contingents shared their expertise and skills in the field
of counter terrorist operations in mountainous/rural/urban scenario under UN mandate. The exercise
culminated with a 36 hours joint validation exercise on 17-18 March 2021. This joint exercise provided
impetus to the ever growing military and diplomatic ties between the two Nations and also reflects their
strong resolve to counter terrorism.

SOUTHERN COMMAND ‘SAGA’ OF
History
Southern Command was raised on 01 April 1895 at Pune and
has participated in almost all major operations conducted by
the country which includes:-
   • Operation Polo – Integration of Hyderabad in 1948.
   • Operation Vijay - Liberation of Goa in 1961.
   • Indo-Pak Wars of 1965 & 1971.
   • Operation Pawan from 1987 - 1990.
   • Operation Cactus -1988
   • Operation Vijay in 1999.
   • Operation Parakram in 2001 – 02.

Ex AMPHEX 21. 91 Infantry Brigade participated in the exercise
comprising of ship familiarisation, dry/wet shod training and
validation of combat cargo loading at Vizag, followed by the main
tactical beaching exercise at Andaman and Nicobar Islands. OAMP
validation was also carried out by C-17s of the IAF. The exercise has
enhanced the synergy between the three Services with respect to
conduct of amphibious operations.

Ex Jalprahar- 2020. The exercise was conducted at Kakinada Beach
to train a Company Group in all facets of amphibious operations
& enhance inter-operability at functional level. Joint training with

F COURAGE, VALOUR & WISDOM
                                                  Combined Commander’s Conference (CCC). Hon’ble
                                                  Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi chaired the CCC at
                                                  Kevadia, in Gujarat with the Defence Minister, National
                                                  Security Advisor, Chief of Defence Staff and the three
                                                  Services Chiefs in attendance. Multiple Vivechna &
                                                  Manthan deliberation sessions with senior Commanders,
                                                  selected officers, JCOs and other ranks of the Armed
                                                  Forces were undertaken focusing on the ongoing
                                                  modernisation of Armed Forces and infusion of modern
                                                  technologies.

Ceremonial Events
Konark Corps celebrated its 34th Raising day
on 26 February 2021. GOC Konark Corps laid
a commemorative wreath at the Konark War
Memorial, to honour the bravehearts and war heroes
who have laid down their lives for the Nation. The
Corps which came into existence on 26 February
1987, is responsible for protection of the Desert
Sector falling in Rajasthan and Gujarat. It has also
provided humanitarian assistance to the civilians and
local authorities in times of natural calamities and
disasters.

                                                        Vajra Corps was the first Army Corps raised post
                                                        independence, on 01 March 1950. 71st Raising Day
                                                        of the Corps was celebrated at Jalandhar Cantt on
                                                        01 March 2021, wherein, GOC Vajra Corps laid a
                                                        wreath and paid homage to the fallen soldiers at
                                                        Vajra Shaurya Sthal. The Corps has proved its mettle
                                                        on the Western Front and has witnessed some of the
                                                        fiercest battles in history during the 1965 & 1971

                                                        Vajra Corps played a pivotal role in shaping history
                                                        of the Nation.

Lieutenant General DP Pandey took over as the GOC
of coveted Chinar Corps from Lieutenant General
B S Raju on 17 March 2021. On assuming command,
he conveyed his best wishes to the Kashmiri awaam.
He reassured his commitment to closely work with
various instruments of State and civil society to
pursue peace in Kashmir. He urged civil society to
work jointly with Security Forces to address scourge
of terrorism in the Kashmir Valley.

                                                        Golden Arrow Division paid rich tributes to
                                                        the brave sons of India; Bhagat Singh, Rajguru
                                                        & Sukhdev at the ‘National Martyrs Memorial’
                                                        in Hussainiwala, Punjab on 23 March 2021.
                                                        Tribute was paid by the GOC and other officials
                                                        to honour the freedom fighters, who inspired the
                                                        Nation to fight for its independence. The event
                                                        was also streamed live on YouTube to inspire all
                                                        ranks and their families.
