About UCLPartners
We work in partnership across our three pillars of research, innovation and education to
improve health and clinical care for more than six million people served by our NHS
partners. Our work also has national and international influence.

Working across the translational pathway, we accelerate research and innovation into
practice.

We achieve this by:

    • Applying the skills of our talented and flexible team, in collaboration with and
drawing on the considerable strengths of our academic and healthcare partners
    • Bringing together the combined strengths of six innovation and research
commissions into an academic health science partnership
    • Co-creating, testing and implementing innovative healthcare solutions to identified
problems in our community, and fostering the wider spread and adoption of these
        solutions.

We work across a broad and diverse geography. Our member organisations cover a
population of more than 6 million across parts of North and East London, Essex,
Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire. We also work across London, nationally and globally to co-
create, test and implement solutions that improve health.

Our approach is entrepreneurial and flexible, so that we can respond to the most pressing
needs of our population. Our strength comes from the quality of our team and our ability
to convene and draw on the considerable strengths of our academic and healthcare
partners, facilitating collaborative working across their organisations to the benefit of
patients who live, work and access health and care across the partnership.

UCL Partners | Appointment of Managing Director
SB

The Role
UCLPartners represents and delivers on the collective ambitions of the partnership in the
areas of research, innovation and education. Six national research and innovation
commissions fall within the UCLPartners academic health science partnership and it is the
role of the managing director to find opportunity for alignment and focus to meet these
ambitions.

The Managing Director will work closely with the leaders of the innovation and research
commissions and partner NHS trust CEOs to set a strategy to improve care for the more
than 6 million people that access health and care in our partnership covering North Central
London, East London, Essex, Hertfordshire (in part) and Bedfordshire (in part). The role
requires a precise focus on population level interventions rather than single episodes of
care, developing a vision that binds every provider of health and care across the
partnership.

The Managing Director is the principal accountable executive officer of UCLPartners and
will support the Chair, the Board and its partners by ensuring that the company achieves its
annual objectives, financial sustainability, and develops the image, reputation and influence
of the partnership.

Building on the above, there are three main aspects to the role.

Leading the Company
Leading all aspects of a medium-sized company/social enterprise of 100 staff. This ranges
from business development opportunities and financial sustainability to providing guidance
and support to a high-trust organisational culture, a strong senior leadership team and a
group of extraordinary staff.

Supporting Partners
Understanding and articulating the collective vision of the partners and inspiring and
exciting them around the vision and opportunities for the partnership.

Stakeholder engagement
UCLPartners is unique in having six innovation and research commissions under one
umbrella. Harnessing the opportunities this presents at a local, regional, national and
international level is instrumental to the future of UCLPartners and the health and care
infrastructure.
