Introduction to Gulf Christian College
“From humble beginnings, Gulf Christian College has grown to become a source of great pride for people of
Normanton in Queensland’s Gulf of Carpentaria. Its history is the story of vision, commitment, persistence and
tenacity. It is the story of personal sacrifice – and it is testament to what can be achieved through faith,
                                          courage and generosity of spirit.

Today, it is a modern educational facility that offers quality teaching and learning opportunities in a safe,
inclusive and professional environment. It epitomises the truly successful merging of Christian values and
cultural heritage. It is a place where indigenous and non-indigenous staff and students work and learn
together in the belief that mutual respect, application and faith are the cornerstones on which to build
                                                   the future.”

Gulf Christian College was established in 1986.

In 2008, Christian Schools Australia (CSA) resigned as the member of Gulf Christian College, and
Nambour Christian College was accepted as the single member of the company. The Gulf Christian
College is now part of the NCC Education Group.

The current Principal has faithfully served the school since 2011. During his tenure, the accreditation
and implementation of Middle School commenced in 2015. To accommodate the requirements of a
secondary educational curriculum a significant building program was undertaken to facilitate the
anticipated growth that the College would experience over the years to come.

The building programs included:
    ▪ Building Stage 5: Middle School (Stage 1) – Classrooms, Industrial Technology Area
    ▪ Building Stage 6: Sports Centre (covered multi-purpose cour)
    ▪ Building Stage 7: Middle School (Stage 2) – Classrooms, Library, Home Ec Area
    ▪ Building Stage 8: Administration Building, various Classroom renovations
    ▪ Building Stage 9: Language and Cultural Centre (2021)

It is anticipated that the current Principal will be remaining on staff in a teaching role during 2021,
but this is yet to be confirmed.

The Board of Gulf Christian College is seeking an energetic, spiritual leader to provide direction to
the school during the next stage of development.

The role of the Principal at Gulf at Gulf Christian College requires creative and effective leadership of
the school, its staff and students. Administrative management is currently achieved through
delegation and team leadership and a close association with Nambour Christian College.

The Principal must be an exemplary role model for the students of the school. The prospective
Principal will need to enjoy living in a small remote community and be able to balance the
responsibilities of school leadership with family life and as an active member of the local community.
A willingness to participate in the life of the local community is critical to the role.

                                                                                                                2|P a g e

Statement of Faith
As a member of Gulf Christian College staff, I accept the following Statement of Faith –

We believe that the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments are God’s infallible and inerrant
revelation to man. It is thus the supreme standard by which all things are to be judged, and the
authoritative guide for all life and conduct.
                                          Romans 15:4; 2 Tim 3:16:17; 2 Peter 3:16; 2 Tim 2:15; Rev 22:18-19.

We believe in the Unity of the True and Living God Who is the Eternal, Self-existent One, Who has
revealed Himself as One Being in three persons – Father, Son and Holy Spirit, and Who is the Creator
and Preserver of things visible and invisible.
                       Deut 6:4-5; Mark 12:29; Matt 28:19; Gen 1:1; Psalm 86:9-10; Isaiah 43:10-11; Col 1:16.

We believe that Jesus Christ is from eternity God’s only begotten Son; He was born of a virgin and is
therefore truly God and man. Through Him God created and sustains the world. Jesus suffered and
died for our sins and rose again for our salvation. He ascended into heaven where He now sits at the
right hand of the Father.
            Isaiah 7:14; Matthew 1:23; John 1:1-3, 14; John 3:16; 1 Cor 15:3-4; Hebrews 1:1-3; 1 Timothy 3:16.

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Third person of the Triune Godhead. He is ever active in convicting
man of sin, leads them to repentance, creates faith within them and regenerates and fills those who
believe on the Lord Jesus Christ as Lord. It is the indwelling Spirit who bestows the Gifts of the Spirit
and leads the believer into all Truth.
                                           John 14:26; John 16:7-8, 13-15; Luke 11:13; Acts 1:8; 1 Cor 12:4-11.

We believe in the actual existence of Satan who is the father of all evil and opposed to God although
ultimately subject to the purposes of God and destined to be confined forever to Hell.
                      John 8:43-45; Luke 10:18; Mark 4:15; Eph 6:12; Romans 8:38-39; Matt 25:41; Rev 20:10.

We believe in the Second Coming of our Lord Jesus Christ who will return as Lord, King and Judge.
                      John 3:16-17; 2 Peter 3:9-11; John 14:1-3, 6; 1 Thess 4:16-17; Jude 14-15; Rev 20:12-15.

I hereby affirm my belief in, and acceptance of, the Statement of Faith as stated above. In signing
this Statement of Faith, I desire to declare my personal faith in Jesus Christ as my Saviour, my Lord
and my God.

Staff Lifestyle Requirements
   1. Gulf Christian College bases its teachings and beliefs on the Bible, both Old and New
Testaments, which the College regards as the inspired and inerrant Word of God. These
teachings are expounded in many of Gulf Christian College’s public and internal documents,
both printed and on the school’s website and viewable by staff as part of their appointment
process. These documents inform our understanding of the lifestyle values which staff who
work in this school are required to respect and maintain.

   2. All staff of Gulf Christian College, regardless of their role, are required to be seen to conduct
themselves in a manner consistent with these principles and beliefs and in accordance with
the Christian ethics of the College, as contained and interpreted in these documents, thus
providing a specifically Christian role model and example to all the families associated with
      the College.

   3. Staff are required to refrain from acting in the course of their work or in doing something
connected with their work in a way that they know or ought reasonably to know is contrary
to the religious beliefs of Gulf Christian College.

   4. It is a genuine occupational requirement of Gulf Christian College that all staff members, in
the course of, or in connection with their work, act in a way that is consistent with the religious
beliefs of Gulf Christian College. Whether directly in school hours of duty or not, nothing in
their deliberate conduct should be incompatible with the intrinsic character of their position.

   5. Staff are required to regularly and frequently attend a Christian church and to regularly and
frequently support staff devotions and staff worship services.

   6. Where any staff member acts contrary to the requirements of this clause, and it becomes
publicly damaging to the College, the Principal may call the staff member to account. Such
contrary action would be regarded to have occurred if a staff member were to act in a way
that to openly embarrass the College and/or where such action was incompatible with the
responsibilities they have towards their work colleagues and / or the students and families of
the College. The College may initiate due process, including an attempt at restoration, and
may also include disciplinary measures including termination of employment if there
      continues to be significant incompatibility.
