ART MONACO - Monaco Art Week
« MONACO ART WEEK »
from 26 to 29 April 2018

Over the years, the Principality of Monaco has hosted an
increasing number of varied artistic events. Home to art galleries
and internationally renowned auction houses, it has become an
important place in the art world with its fairs, exhibitions and
cultural events.

Galleries and auction houses established in the Principality have
chosen to join forces around the same objective: to promote their
rich and diverse activities, and contribute to Monaco’s cultural
reach on the local, regional and international scene. The MONACO
ART WEEK association is the result of this shared desire.

The first event initiated by the association is MONACO ART
WEEK. It will take place between 26 and 29 April 2018. All the
Principality’s neighbourhoods will be involved in the event, in
conjunction with the artmonte-carlo fair at the Grimaldi Forum and
Nomad at La Vigie.
At the same time, the Ballets de Monte-Carlo and the Festival
Printemps des Arts de Monte-Carlo will reveal their new productions
at the Grimaldi Forum. During this bustling period, when Monaco
takes centre stage, the intention is to appeal to all those who have
come to discover and nourish their passion for the arts, whether
they are novices, onlookers or experienced art-lovers.

Alfredo Pallesi was born in Bologna. Coming from a family
of antique dealers, he opened his first cabinet in Rome in 1968.
In 1981, he began his collaboration with Finarte Casa d’Aste at
the Rome headquarters. After a few years, he became General
Manager and took care of the headquarters of Milan, then
Madrid.
In 2002, he resigned from Finarte and opened a gallery in
Rome at 54 Via Margutta. He returns to his former activity
by dedicating himself to the sale of paintings and sculptures
from the 17th to the 20th century. He participates in various
exhibitions including the Biennial of Florence and Rome. In
2011, he moved the gallery to the Principality of Monaco where
he opened at Park Palace.

by their innumerable travel diaries.

Artcurial was founded in 2002, just at the time the French
auction market was opening up to competition, and quickly
became the leading French auction house. Since then the firm
has continually innovated, launching new specialties such as
Design and Street Art, which are a major international success.
Today, as a multifaceted auction house, Artcurial enjoys
international recognition and has earned its place at the forefront
of the art market. With sales taking place mainly in Paris and
Monaco, the auction house made nearly 200 M euros in 2017.

Conceived as a cultural venue, the passion for works of art and
collectors’ items is expressed around a core of main specialities
- from fine art to decorative art, collectors’ cars, jewellery,
important clocks and watches, fine wines and spirits, etc., in fact
more than 25 areas of expertise.

With a clear international focus, Artcurial’s expertise extends
beyond the French borders, exporting its know-how through
representative offices in Brussels, Milan, Monte-Carlo, Munich
and Vienna as well as having a presence in Beijing and Tel Aviv
and holding biannual exhibitions in New York. In October 2015,
Artcurial organised its first sales in Hong Kong and in Morocco.
In 2017 the Artcurial group acquired John Taylor - one of the
oldest luxury real estate companies.

NIKI DE SAINT PHALLE,
« Last night I had a dream »

Born in 1930, Niki de Saint Phalle, who started out as a model
then trained as an actor, exorcised the traumas of her childhood
through her art. An iconic figure among the female artists of the
second half of the 20th century, she was struck by the fantastical
power of Antonio Gaudi’s work, whom she discovered the work
for the first time in Park Güell in 1955. The end of the 1960s marked
her desire to bring together, in large sculpted assemblies, the
various figures drawn from her dreams and vivid imagination.

new vision of Contemporary American Abstraction.

Sam Francis develops in his works a new aesthetic of color
through abstract shapes that he places on the canvas to reveal the
background: place of infinity. This background gives an intense
depth to his works and lets the shapes expressing themselves.

Will be presented by Magic of Persia at The Grimaldi Forum
during Art Monte-Carlo

The contemporary Iranian art field has been growing in the
global scene much faster than ever before. Its evolution in the
21st century is owed to not only the increased number of artists
in the homeland and in the diaspora, but also to the Iranian
curators and institutes whose involvement in the field have
been immeasurable.

In collaboration with the Art Monte-Carlo 2018, Magic of
Persia (A London-based Art Charity Foundation) will present
a panel discussion and an exhibition titled Contemporary Iran.
The panel aims to discuss the contemporary condition of
Iranian art both locally and globally from various aspects
encompassing educational, artistic and economical angles. This
exhibition presents a historiographical review of the formation
of new art in Iran.

The conference will be held on Sunday 29 April at 6p.m. at the

“SOUS LES PAVÉES, LA PLAGE !”

Taking one of May 68’s slogans, a situationist drift, Wolfgang
Weileder and Cédric Tesseire, two artists dear to Gino Gianuizzi,
examine the visible. While they’re questioning their support,
these two artists highlight the invisible and let the spectator
witness their own wishes.

On one hand, Wolfgang Weileder, through his large format
photographic works, questions the notion of space-time, and
the limits between figuration and abstraction. Captivating
and fascinating, they bring the spectator to the most total
contemplation.

Fabrizio Moretti opened his gallery in Florence in 1999 with the
inaugural exhibition From Bernardo Daddi to Giorgio Vasari and
soon established a respected reputation in the field of Italian
Old Masters. The gallery works closely with the most notable
scholars and public institutions and is known for its dedication
to research and for handling works of the highest quality as well
as for making this particular area more accessible to private
collectors. The London seat of the gallery opened in January
2005 as a point of reference for collectors seeking a confidential
approach.
In 2017, with Monaco’s longstanding commitment to arts and
culture, Fabrizio Moretti decided to open a new gallery space
at Park Palace in Monte Carlo, Monaco, overlooking the fabled
Place du Casino.
Throughout the years, the philanthropic activity of the gallery
has allowed for the publication of monographs of Italian painters,
financed scholarships at several institutions and donated works
of art to several museums around the world.

ITALIANS MONOCHROMES

Opera Gallery Monaco is proud to present the exhibition Italians
Monochrome, a selection of works of artists from around the
world who have contributed to monochrome painting such as
Lucio Fontana, Turi Simeti , Agostino Bonalumi, Marcello Lo
Giudice and Alessandro Algardi.
Although monochromes have existed since ancient times in Asia
and Africa, it was only as of 1915 that a concept was conceived
by Kasimir Malevitch and illustrated in his famous painting Black
Square on White Backdrop, considered ‘‘the ultimate point in
painting, or its zero point’’. Monochrome art has undergone in-
depth research while experiencing success and failure throughout
the 20th century. It is, however, unquestionably in Italy, after
World War II, that it earned its stripes. TURI SIMETI
