Morning work
Each morning, we practice mindfulness, our PLIMS targets and do some exercise. Below are
links for you to use. We also do Literacy, Phonics and Maths daily. Below is a range of
activities for each subject. You can choose an activity to do from each subject each day.

Literacy – This week, we are reading Professor Astro Cat’s Solar System by Dominic
Walliman and Ben Newman. I have included images of the book below.
 - Beech class are working on our communication skills when reading. Talk about
 the story with another person. What can you see? What is happening? What will
 happen next? Who is your favourite character? What is your favourite part of the
 book. Here is a story communication board to help you talk about the book. You
 could even act the story out.

- Reading with your child will enable them to increase their communication and
 comprehension skills. Choose a favourite book to read; try to sound out some
 key sounds and words.
- Practice your pencil control. Here is a link to Twinkl containing lots of useful

 easier by tracing vertical and horizontal lines in mark making trays using rice,
 cornflour, icing sugar, hot chocolate or any other dry foods you have! You could

 make this harder by tracing key words relating to the topic or having a go at
 writing them yourself.
- Beech class are also working on our comprehension skills. Answer questions
 about the book verbally or written down (e.g. Which planet did Professor
 Astrocat visit first?). You could make this easier by finding pictures to answer the
 questions. You could make this harder by creating a short summary of the book
 or retelling the story to another person using your own words and the
 commenting chart above.

- Play the animal maze game on BusyThings in Year 1 set up → Mathematics
 → Position and Movement.
- Practice giving more of an object when shown 2 groups of objects. Can you
 select the right object to give more of? You could make this harder by
 choosing the correct object to give from a choice of 3. Also, practice making
 and identifying groups of 1 and lots. If an adult makes groups, can you
 correctly match the symbols to the groups? You could make this harder by
 making 2 groups of objects and identifying which group has more and less.
 Count the objects to check you are right. If you are confident identifying
 which groups have more or less, try ordering the groups by size.

- Practice putting an object in and on a container when asked. You could make
 this easier by practicing placing an object in, on and under. You could make
 this harder by describing where another person has placed the object. If you
 are confident placing objects in, on and under, try to identify things in your
 house and surroundings that move fast and slow.

Afternoon Work
After lunch, we practice yoga. Afternoon lessons are completed once per week. Below are
some activities for each subject. You can choose which 2 subjects to do each day.

Science – This term, Beech class are looking at rocks, Earth and space.

and moving! Have fun with your exercise and you could even play hide and seek at home.

 - Practice moving objects forwards and backwards on command. You could make
 this harder by describing the way someone else moves. Are they going forwards
 or backwards? Are they moving fast or slow?
 - You could play snakes and ladders and describe if you are moving forwards or
 backwards on each turn.
 - Pretend to be a robot, follow instructions to move forwards or backwards from
 another person and using the support of symbols.

Art – This term, we have been looking at an artist called Kadinsky. He creates lots of
colourful artwork using shapes and lines. We are now starting to make our own version of
his art.
 - Look at this piece of Kadinsky’s artwork and describe the colours and shapes you
 can see. How is it different to the pictures we used last week?
 - Cut out shapes to make your own version of this picture. Try to see how it looks
 like space. What shapes will you need to cut out? Try to use lots of different
 colours. You could make this easier by using shapes that an adult has cut out for
 you to arrange on the paper. Try to give your artwork a name.

Music – We are exploring dance this term.
 - Find your favourite songs on YouTube and get dancing! You could make your
 own dance routine and show / teach others. Create a dance group together and
 have lots of fun!
 - Make instruments using different objects in your house (pans and wooden
 spoons etc.) Make your own music!
Life Skills – Use this opportunity to learn all about cooking, cleaning up and doing your
fastenings. You could try helping with a meal by chopping, mixing and spooning food onto
plates. You could also spend some time learning how to fasten your zips, buttons and do up
your shoe laces.
