Welcome to the 2021 edition of the Best of the Best USA, a guide to the top legal practitioners in Our guides cover a broad – and growing – range
the US across 16 areas of law. of legal practice areas, including:

When first published in 1994, the Expert Guides were the first-ever guides dedicated to leading
individuals in the legal industry. Since then we have continued to focus on individuals
considered by clients and peers to be the best in their field. The Best of the Best USA compiles Aviation
the top 30 practitioners in 18 areas of law. All the other practice areas we cover are included in Banking, finance and transactional
the 2020 edition and will be updated in 2022. In the event of a tie on the number of nominations Commercial arbitration
both practitioners are included. Competition and antitrust
                                                                                                       Construction and real estate
Our research process for each guide involves sending over 4,000 questionnaires to senior Energy and environment
practitioners or in-house counsel involved in each practice area, asking them to nominate Insurance and reinsurance
leading practitioners based on their work and reputation. The results are analysed and screened International trade and shipping
for firm, network and alliance bias. The list of experts is then discussed and refined with advisers Labour and employment
in legal centres worldwide. Life sciences
                                                                                                       Litigation and product liability
Each expert has been independently offered the opportunity to enhance their listing with a Patents
professional biography. These biographies give readers valuable, detailed information regarding Privacy and data protection
each lawyer’s practice and, if appropriate, their work and clients. Rising stars
                                                                                                       Tax
We owe the success of our guides to all the in-house counsel and firms that completed questionnaires Technology, media and telecommunications
and met our researchers. Thank you. We hope you find this guide to be a useful tool. Trade mark
