In November 2014, Charlie Patton landed Ethnos360 Aviation’s Cessna 206 in
Brazil, culminating years of praying, giving, working and planning to bring flight
December 2019 service to the outskirts of the Amazon Basin. In God’s perfect orchestration, one
of the first flights brought missionaries to town for timely rabies shots after a
vicious tapir attack. In May 2019, Jeremiah Diedrich delivered one last load of
cargo, as regulations on airstrips tightened. Thank God, a helicopter is on its
way!

“I brought you medicine to learn to speak,” said an indigenous woman to missionaries
Rachel and Henrique in Brazil. But they knew her “brew” wouldn’t help. It would take
January 2020 years of learning—and multiplied supply runs by river and land to sustain them in their
jungle village. With news of a plan for improved aviation service, though, they had a
glimmer of hope. "The helicopter could be our normal mode of transportation!” wrote
Rachel. Thank you for praying and giving to make an R66 for Brazil a reality.

Pilot Brian Pruett of the Philippines: “We use the airplane to fly into the remote

mountains where we have church planters working on translation and
discipleship of the church. The goal is not the aircraft. The goal is to come
alongside the ministry of our missionaries, to make it possible for them to work
there, and not only just to work there but to really thrive. As aviators, we want to
balance the technical side of things with the ministry side of things.”

“It’s as if we were handed a bowl of food, but the lid was never opened to us, and we were
March 2020
never able to eat the food.” Visitor Hannah Lilley listened as the Dinangat church elder
described first hearing the gospel—in another language. Then he told how Ethnos360
missionaries eventually came, learned their heart language and culture, and taught the
gospel. “They opened the lid!” Now the Dinangat people have eaten the food. “They
understand and believe what Christ did for them on the cross!”

During training, future church planters and aviation personnel start a collaboration that
April 2020 will last the ten to twenty years that it takes to establish a thriving church. Pilots in
training try to make it very realistic: “We were able to take a package and drop it off to
the students during their simple living class. We got to share our hearts to support their
ministry! It was a very emotional time and a powerful team building experience.”

John Meerstra is grateful for God's protection for over 10,000 hours of flying in Papua New
May 2020 Guinea to reach people like the Wantakia. Jill Sanders, who works with that people group,
says, “John not only helps the Wantakia team fly back and forth from the bush, but he also
helps the locals by carrying their coffee beans to town to be sold.” Right now, the Wantakia are
learning to read and write in preparation for hearing “God’s Talk” soon.

The Canadian/German/Indonesian/American church planting team among the Buru can
June 2020 hardly keep ahead of the demand for Bible teaching. For the first time ever, the Buru church
has even sent two of their young people to missionary training school so they can reach other
villages. “The team on the island relies on the Kodiak plane for support. We praise the Lord
we can be a small part in what God is doing there!” says pilot Jamin Peck.

Two young families have just moved among the Taliabu people to bolster the believers and
July 2020 continue scripture translation. Using the Kodiak airplane, the team can avoid hours of boat
travel through a dangerous ocean strait and more hours of overland travel to get to this
isolated island.

Serving as a mechanic isn’t a downgrade from playing the part of a pilot. It is in fact a unique
August 2020
calling, filling a vital role in missions. Imie Mark, the Maintenance Controller in Papua New
Guinea, describes the mechanics there as members “who have surrendered themselves to the
Lord, using the love He’s given them for aviation to speed the work of reaching the unreached
peoples of the world with the gospel.” Gifsen Mambo (right) has faithfully served more than 25
years!

Typhoon season plagues the Philippine islands every year. The resulting
September 2020
landslides and washed out roads often cut off mountain villages from food and
supplies. Thankfully, the helicopter can fly over these obstacles, bringing
necessary provisions until roads are repaired. You can see the relief on the faces
pictured here after a national missionary partnered with Zach Keller and the R44
to bring much-needed food to this village.

In an unannounced stop at a Tugutil village, pilots Nomad Nelman and Daren Spence came
upon this desperate father and his severely burned daughter. “It was the Lord’s timing,”
October 2020 says Nomad. And it was the Lord’s provision. Since our national and indigenous
missionaries and the people they serve live on a shoestring, Ethnos360 Aviation steps up to
cover emergency medevac expenses in the event of a life-threatening illness or accident.

November 2020 “We brought in about a dozen copies of the Tugutil translation of Matthew and
Romans for the leaders to teach from both in Lili and in the outreach locations,”
says Bob. While he was in this isolated island village, Bob also worked with
native speakers to check their comprehension of the book of Luke.

“Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we will trust in the name of the
December 2020
LORD our God” (Psa 20:7 NIV). It’s tempting for the 13 teams in Papua New
Guinea who rely solely on the helicopter to get the focus wrong. “And may we
remember,” says Elizabeth Claasen of the extremely remote Pal work, that “our
trust is not in our chariot (helicopter), but in the Living God.”
