Adult Literacy & Learning
Read On is a program to help adults with
everyday life and work skills.
Read On offers:
» reading, writing, math, computer, speaking, and listening skills help.
» one-on-one tutoring and small classes.
» many books and textbooks to help you learn.
» support to Lethbridge residents (18 years of age or older) up to and including
Grade 9 levels or CLB 7.
Read On has been helping adults in the Lethbridge since 1981.

One-on-One Tutoring
» One-on-one tutoring can help adults improve their reading, writing, spelling,
grammar, and basic math up to a Grade 10 level.
» Each student will work with a tutor for about one hour a week.
» Read On will look for a volunteer tutor who is available when you are.
» One-on-one tutoring is not provided for conversation skills.
» Tutoring may be done online using Zoom or in person.
» There is a $30 registration fee.

speaking classes.

Learner Support Services
Learner support services are offered to adults who wish to talk about their
learning needs and goals with Read On. We will help you see ways to reach your
goals with our program or other organizations.
Books
Read On has a large number of books for adults written at different levels. Come
visit Read On and choose a book or workbook to help you get better at reading.
If you have questions about language tests,
classes, or one-on-one tutoring, let us know.

The best place for learning listening, speaking, and pronunciation skills are in
classes where you can speak and listen to different people.
Conversation – Beginner (CLB Pre to 2)
This class helps you speak and listen better. You will practice speaking to other
people in your class, learn how to ask and answer questions, and learn new words.
This class is for ESL learners.

Conversation – Intermediate (CLB 3–5)
If you speak English well, but want to improve your vocabulary and be more
comfortable having a conversation, this class is for you.
This class is for ESL learners.

Improve both writing and conversation skills. You will have a chance to share your
writings with classmates, and hear what they have written. From this will come
many questions, and much laughter.

Speechcraft
This class is for students who wish to improve their confidence speaking in front of
others. Students will write and present speeches, and learn speaking techniques
from Coulee Commentators Toastmasters members. This class is targeted to
Canadian born learners or ELL at CLB 4+.

Book Talk
Reading and talking about a story shows you the beauty of language and the role

decimals, ratio, rate and percent. Math skills can help you in daily life, on the job, or

English for Driving
Learn the vocabulary, traffic signs/signals, and rules of the road for driving in
Alberta. This class can help adults prepare for the Alberta Class 7 Driving Test
(knowledge exam).

Reading and Writing – IELTS General
This class helps prepare you to write the reading and writing modules of the
general IELTS test. This class will NOT teach you IELTS – Academic reading and
writing. This class includes a textbook.

ESL Time for Rhymes
Learn English with your preschooler (under 5 years old) as we sing, do rhymes, and
listen to a story. Then while your child plays nearby, spend 30 minutes improving
your conversation skills.

Read On will return your money if the class does not run, or we cannot find you a
tutor. If you decide to withdraw from a class within the first two weeks, the fee for
that class can be used for another class.
Cancellation of a Class
If not enough students register for a class it may be cancelled. We will phone or
email you as soon as possible.
Visa residents
You must show Read On staff your Visa (issued by the Canadian government) to
join our program.
If you are an agency or an agency client, please speak to Read On staff for more
information.
