The selection process for the Technology Industrial Placement programme consists of
2 stages which are made up of an application and then an interview. A large number

demonstrate your passion, skills and potential in your application.
4 What we look for
We assess the suitability of every applicant against the
same set of criteria. The criteria represent the skills,
knowledge and overall attributes we are looking for and
these are:
Someone who…
1. Is studying for an undergraduate degree with a
significant numeracy, science and/or IT element
which MUST incorporate a placement year
(i.e. sandwich course).
2. Possesses knowledge of at least one programming
language or equivalent infrastructure experience
e.g. hardware maintenance or networking.
3. Has a keen interest in IT and keeps up to date with
current and future IT developments.
4. Has effective analytical and problem-solving skills.
5. Can plan and organise work using your own initiative.
6. Demonstrates evidence of good oral and written
communication skills.
As well as someone who can desirably demonstrate….
1. An appreciation of customer needs and the
importance of good customer service.
2. Proven ability to work well as a member of a team.
3. Practical knowledge or experience of IT.
You need to ensure that you structure your application
so that you address each of these criteria. This may
be through details of the work you have been involved
in, areas of IT that you have a keen interest in and
understanding of as well as your skills and how you apply
them. We are also keen to hear why you want to work

shortlisted based on the evidence against the criteria so
