2018 Application & Program Information
Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) Training Program

         CNA Training Program Overview
          What Do CNAs Do?
Certified Nurse Aides (CNAs) provide hands-on healthcare to patients in medical settings. They assist
with bathing, dressing, and other fundamental life activities. CNAs handle additional duties such as
documenting health issues, dressing wounds, feeding, and simply interacting with their patients in a
    friendly and caring way.

While CNAs can be found in hospitals, the majority are employed in nursing and residential care facilities,
homecare environments, and in hospice. CNAs interact with patients on a regular basis and get to know
them personally. The routine interaction between a CNA and the person being cared for is crucial because it
creates an environment of comfort and predictability for the patient.

Who Should Consider Being a CNA?
Being a CNA requires compassion, dependability, strong communication skills, empathy, and patience.
CNAs are in high demand, and many applicants who obtain certification choose to continue their studies
to advance their careers. CNAs often go on to become Licensed Practical Nurses LPNs), Registered Nurses
    (RNs), or other healthcare professionals.

    Program Provider
The CNA program is offered by Athens Technical College Economic Development division. It is a state-
approved, 12-week curriculum that prepares participants for a meaningful, fulfilling career as a CNA in the
healthcare industry. All instructors hold a minimum of an RN credential, and are experienced in long-term
    patient care management.

    Hands-on Curriculum & Instruction
THE CNA program teaches applicants the necessary information and clinical skills needed to work as a Nurse
Aide in a variety of healthcare settings including long-term, home care, hospice care, and acute care settings.
The program prepares applicants to take the Georgia Certified Nurse Aide Certification Exam.

The program is taught through instructor-led lectures, demonstrations, and exercises. It also includes
supervised on-site clinicals in a Nurse care setting and a “boot camp” to prepare for the state certification
    exam.

    Program Objectives for Real-World Experiences
       • Learn how to assist in the physical and emotional care of patients.
       • Practice how to track patients’ vital signs including blood pressure, temperature, and pulse.
       • Discover techniques for positive, effective communication with your patients.
       • Gain hands-on experience through the use of actual medical equipment.
       • Develop an understanding of basic human anatomy and physiology.
