                            Kari Gorr
Summer is one of the most beautiful seasons of the year. The air holds a vibrancy
that winter seems to lack; the sky appears bluer and the future feels more promising.
Hastings Community Education is proud to offer classes that will help you to make
the most out of your spring and summer. We have a variety of new offerings that will
both encourage innovation and provide new exploration. Some exciting new offerings
include:
      • How to Fish Twin Cities Lakes – Presentation, door prizes and handouts
         provided by author of several fishing books, Sybil Smith. (pg. 12)
      • Bees, Wasps, and Pollination – Discover the different species of honeybees
        and native bees, as well as bees and wasps. Pollination, pesticides and an
        observation hive may even be on display to discuss. (pg. 15)
      • Ultimate Hovercrafts - Air Blast Engineering – Your 2nd through 5th grader
        will explore the power of air like never before! Build a super cool hover
        craft, experiment with a pressurized car launching, create pneumatics
        machines and much more. (pg. 46)

                                                 designed especially for the beginner
                                                 done by illuminated by Candlelight.
                                                 Vinyasa connects the movement with
                                                 the breath to create a continuous

                                                 provide you with strength, flexibility

The High School Field House Indoor Track is available M-F, 6:30 am-10 pm and
Saturdays, 8:30 am-2:30 pm. Members of the Hastings Area Senior Program pay $7.50.
                     Raptor Scans continue for building security!
Safety is of the highest priority for our students and staff and we are continuing use of
the Raptor Technology Scanning System district-wide.
  • If you walk at the high school site between 6:30 am-2:30 pm you will need to have
    your license/I.D. scanned by the system and a badge will be issued to you. Show
    the badge to high school staff on days when you are walking. (You will be provided
    the Walk Pass for those times you walk after 2:30 pm weeknights or Saturdays.)
  • The new 2018-19 Walking Pass must be worn
    whenever using the track. Purchase at either Cub
    service counter or at Community Education.
  • Bring your license/photo I.D. to the Tilden
    Community Center for processing.
  • The high school site WILL NOT be able to make
    the pass for you and you will be directed to
    obtain one at the Tilden Community Center, 310
    River St, Hastings - Community Education office.

  this kit could reverse an opioid overdose and potentially save a life. STEPHANIE DEV-
  ICH provides Narcan training statewide, has a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Alco-

Scones for Mother’s Day Ages 12+                                         Laurel Severson
Traditionally Scottish (but now famous worldwide), scones are a delectable quick bread
that comes in assorted shapes – round, triangular or square. Enjoy making a variety
of easy recipes highlighting dried fruits such as cherries, cranberries, or blueberries. A
delectable assortment of recipes to include: Lemon Cream Scones and the traditional
Currant Scone, too. Scones are best served warm from the oven with wonderful
lemon curd and traditional Devonshire cream or whipped cream for tea. Make a White
Chocolate Spread in class. Or serve them with butter, flavored cream cheese, honey
