The Global Standard

• Competency in the core principles – at each of the four levels – is
demonstrated by achieving certification from the Global
  Communication Certification Council.
• The Council plans to apply to the International Organization for
Standardization (known as ISO) for approval of this certification
program so that communicators, their clients, and other
stakeholders can be confident the program is reliable.
• Currently certification is available at the specialist/generalist level.
Certification at the other three levels is planned for the future.

What to say to ABCs

• The CMP and ABC programs are very different
• CMP is designed for people with 6-8 years of experience. ABC's
generally are more senior (10+ years of experience)
• Some cross-over in knowledge tested but there are differences
• Success in attaining the ABC does not mean you'll attain the CMP
• ABCs may prefer to wait for a future certification geared to people at
      the strategic advisor level
• ABCs who still wish to pursue the CMP should speak with GCCC
      about discounted pricing

Hosting CMP exams
Lessons learned

• Hosting the exam is the easy part. All you need is a location
(member's office?) and two people (one male, one female).
• Key to success is how you promote the program.
       – Recommend preparing a detailed communications plan well in
         advance
       – Use all of your chapter's communication vehicles
       – Consider working with other chapters in your region – people are
travelling within regions to take the CMP exam
