           GOD’S GENEROSITY & OUR GRATITUDE

WELCOME TO ALL! Welcome to long-time Lutherans, Christians from every tradition,
and people new to the faith. Welcome to all who have no church home, want to follow
Christ, have doubts, or do not believe. Welcome to new visitors and old friends.
Welcome to people of every age and size, color and culture, every sexual orientation and
gender identity, socio-economic status, ability and challenge. Welcome to believers
and questioners, and to questioning believers. This is a place where you are welcome to
celebrate and sorrow, rejoice and recover. This is a place where lives are made new.
Welcome on this day!

PRELUDE
WELCOME & ANNOUNCEMENTS
TEMPLE TALK Jeff Laurel
GODSIGHTINGS
* GATHERING HYMN God, Whose Giving Knows No Ending (tune Joyful, Joyful) ELW 678
* CONFESSION & FORGIVENESS
Blessed be the holy Trinity, ☩ one God,
whose teaching is life, whose presence is sure,
and whose love is endless.
Amen.
Let us confess our sins to the one who welcomes us with an open heart.
Silence is kept for reflection.
God our comforter:
like lost sheep, we have gone astray.
We gaze upon abundance and see scarcity.
We turn our faces away from injustice and oppression.
We exploit the earth with our apathy and greed.
Free us from our sin, gracious God.
Listen when we call out to you for help.
Lead us by your love to love our neighbors as ourselves.
Amen.
All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.
By the gift of grace in ☩ Christ Jesus, God makes you righteous.
Receive with glad hearts the forgiveness of all your sins.
Amen.
* PRAYER OF THE DAY
P: Let us pray.
C: Lord God, source of every blessing, you showed forth your glory and led many to faith
by the works of your Son, who brought gladness and salvation to his people. Transform
us by the Spirit of his love, that we may find our life together in him, Jesus Christ, our
Savior and Lord. Amen.
BLESSED TO BE A BLESSING Karen Christofferson, Kris Geschwill
ANTHEM “Where Your Treasure Is”- Randy Kraft, guitar; Judy Tender, flute Marty Haugen
Crosslake Lutheran Church - Sunday, October 3, 2021
FIRST READING Psalm 36:5-10
5
Your love, O Lord, reaches to the heavens, and your faithfulness to the clouds. 6Your
righteousness is like the strong mountains, your justice like the great deep; you save
humankind and animals, O Lord. 7How priceless is your love, O God! All people take
refuge under the shadow of your wings. 8They feast upon the abundance of your house;
you give them drink from the river of your delights. 9For with you is the well of life, and in
your light we see light. 10Continue your loving kindness to those who know you, and your
favor to those who are true of heart.
Word of God, word of life.
Thanks be to God!

* GOSPEL John 2:1-11 from the Message.
The holy Gospel according to John.
Glory to you, O Lord.
1-3
Three days later there was a wedding in the village of Cana in Galilee. Jesus’ mother was
there. Jesus and his disciples were guests also. When they started running low on wine at
the wedding banquet, Jesus’ mother told him, “They’re just about out of wine.” 4 Jesus
said, “Is that any of our business, Mother—yours or mine? This isn’t my time. Don’t push
me.” 5 She went ahead anyway, telling the servants, “Whatever he tells you, do it.”
6-7
Six stoneware water pots were there, used by the Jews for ritual washings. Each held
twenty to thirty gallons. Jesus ordered the servants, “Fill the pots with water.” And they
filled them to the brim. 8 “Now fill your pitchers and take them to the host,” Jesus said,
and they did. 9-10 When the host tasted the water that had become wine (he didn’t know
what had just happened but the servants, of course, knew), he called out to the bride-
groom, “Everybody I know begins with their finest wines and after the guests have had
their fill brings in the cheap stuff. But you’ve saved the best till now!” 11 This act in Cana
of Galilee was the first sign Jesus gave, the first glimpse of his glory. And his disciples
believed in him.
P: The Gospel of the Lord.
C: Praise to you, O Christ.
SERMON Pastor Kristin Oltmann

* APOSTLES’ CREED
I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, God's only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead.
On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven,
he is seated at the right hand of the Father,
and he will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church,
the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

                              CONGREGATIONAL UPDATE
Dear Crosslake Lutheran Community,
As COVID (especially the Delta variant) remains at a high rate of community
transmission we recommend masks for all those inside our facility at worship and
all functions. This is especially important now that we have more people inside our
building, specifically more children. Children under 12 aren't yet eligible for the
vaccine. With the Delta variant, people can be carriers of COVID without showing
any symptoms. We recognize that there is COVID fatigue and no one wants to
wear a mask! But if we can help others feel safe and more comfortable in our
church environment so that they can participate rather than staying home, it's
an act of Christian hospitality and service to our neighbors in Christ to wear a mask
for the time that we are together. Thanks for your participation and patience!
