                                         July 11, 2021—10:00 am
WELCOME TO ALL! Welcome to long-time Lutherans, Christians from every tradition, and people new to
the faith. Welcome to all who have no church home, want to follow Christ, have doubts, or do not believe.
Welcome to new visitors and old friends. Welcome to people of every age and size, color and culture, every
sexual orientation and gender identity, socio-economic status, ability and challenge. Welcome to believers
and questioners, and to questioning believers. This is a place where you are welcome to celebrate and sorrow,
rejoice and recover. This is a place where lives are made new. Welcome on this day!
Guests are invited to complete the Visitor form on the last page of the bulletin. Contact the church office if
you wish to join this congregation.

Notes: The service is being radio broadcast on FM 88.1. Handicap parking is available in the first row near
the Kid’s Korner. On Communion Sundays, communion can be brought to you by putting on your hazard
lights or ‘flashers’ during the time of distribution. Restrooms are located in the small building to your right
near the open sided shelter. IF YOU HAVE A MEDICAL EMERGENCY during worship, use your car horn to
summon help. If 911 is needed, the physical address is 14019 DAGGETT PINE ROAD. An AED and first-aid kit
are available in the lower lever of the A-frame. If you need to leave the worship site, please drive with caution.
KID’S KORNER: “Let the little children come to me.” Mark 10:14 Look for the blue and green tents
located somewhere in our worship area and that is where you will find Kid’s Korner this summer. Kid’s
Korner is open throughout the worship service and is a place where children through 6 th grade can come
and do activities that are kid friendly. There will usually be a craft they can make that relates to the worship
theme, books to read, coloring pages, children’s worship activity sheets and toys to help them worship in
an age appropriate way. There will be a person present throughout the worship hour to help guide the
children. Parents can sit close to the tents, offering their children the option of going back and forth between
you and Kid’s Korner.

Prepare to Worship: “I listen carefully to what God the Lord is saying, for he speaks peace to his faithful people.”
 Psalm 85:8a

OPENING LITANY
God of creation, create space in our hearts— ALL: Space for hope to grow like wildflowers.
God of creation, create space in our hearts— ALL: Space for love to echo her joyful refrain.
God of creation, create space in our hearts— ALL: Space for your words to saturate us like the rain.
God of creation, create space in our hearts— ALL: For you, your word, your grace, and your Church.
God of creation, create space in our hearts. ALL: God of creation, create space in our hearts.
Let us worship God.
ALL: Amen.
CONFESSION
P: Lord,
ALL: We have been given life but we have not lived. We have enjoyed the wonder of Your creation, but have failed
to acknowledge You as Creator. We have sought the full pleasure that life has to offer, but we feel like we have
been shortchanged. Lord, we confess that we have separated ourselves from You by our thoughts, words and
actions. We desire life to be what it was meant to be. We are in need of a Savior. Lord, forgive our sin and give us
real life in You.
ABSOLUTION
P: Our God is the God of life. Our Creator God, who brought the worlds into being, created each of us, and desires
only the best for us. God knows of our sin and has provided for our deliverance through Jesus, God with us. Jesus
gave up His life so that we might live. Jesus’ death was for our sin and for our daily relationship with Him. Our God is
the God of Life. As we trust God, our life is made new, and we can live together with God for now and throughout
eternity.
ALL: Praise God for the Gift of Life. Amen!
PRAYER OF THE DAY
Let us pray.
ALL: Sovereign God, you have created us to live in loving community with one another. Form us for life that is
faithful and steadfast, and teach us to trust like little children, that we may reflect the image of your Son, Jesus
Christ our Lord. Amen.

SONG FOR THE CHILDREN’S SERMON/BAPTISM
I Will Call Upon the Lord Michael O’Shields
I will call upon the Lord who is worthy to be praised.
So shall I be saved from my enemies. I will call upon the Lord.
The Lord liveth, and blessed be the Rock, and let the God of my salvation be exalted.
The Lord liveth, and blessed be the Rock, and let the God of my salvation be exalted.

SACRAMENT OF HOLY BAPTISM FOR: Saylor Paige McMahon and Brolin Dane McMahon

PROFESSION OF FAITH
The presiding minister addresses those making public affirmation of baptism. The assembly may stand and join in the responses.
I ask you to profess your faith in Christ Jesus, reject sin, and confess the faith of the church.
Do you renounce the devil and all the forces that defy God? Response: I renounce them.
Do you renounce the powers of this world that rebel against God? Response: I renounce them.
Do you renounce the ways of sin that draw you from God? Response: I renounce them.
The presiding minister addresses the candidates and the assembly.
Do you believe in God the Father?
I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.
Do you believe in Jesus Christ, the Son of God?
I believe in Jesus Christ, God's only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead.
On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven,
he is seated at the right hand of the Father,
and he will come to judge the living and the dead.
Do you believe in God the Holy Spirit?
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the
resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
Let us welcome the newly baptized.
We welcome you into the body of Christ and into the mission we share: join us in giving thanks and praise to God
and bearing God’s creative and redeeming word to all the world.

FIRST READING Psalm 145: 1-9 (Read responsively by half verse)
1
I will extol you, my God and King,
and bless your name forever and ever.
2
Every day I will bless you,
and praise your name forever and ever.
3
  Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised;
his greatness is unsearchable.
4
One generation shall laud your works to another,
and shall declare your mighty acts.
5
On the glorious splendor of your majesty,
and on your wondrous works, I will meditate.
6
The might of your awesome deeds shall be proclaimed,
and I will declare your greatness.
7
They shall celebrate the fame of your abundant goodness,
and shall sing aloud of your righteousness.
8
The LORD is gracious and merciful,
slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.
9
The LORD is good to all,
and his compassion is over all that he has made.
Word of God. Word of life.
Thanks be God!
SECOND READING: 2nd Timothy 1:1-8a (The Message) and 2nd Timothy 1:8b NRSV
I, Paul, am on special assignment for Christ, carrying out God’s plan laid out in the Message of Life by Jesus. I write
this to you, Timothy, the son I love so much. All the best from our God and Christ be yours! Every time I say your name
in prayer—which is practically all the time—I thank God for you, the God I worship with my whole life in the tradition
of my ancestors. I miss you a lot, especially when I remember that last tearful good-bye, and I look forward to a joy-
packed reunion. That precious memory triggers another: your honest faith—and what a rich faith it is, handed down
from your grandmother Lois to your mother Eunice, and now to you! And the special gift of ministry you received
when I laid hands on you and prayed—keep that ablaze! God doesn’t want us to be shy with his gifts, but bold and
loving and sensible. So don’t be embarrassed to speak up for our Master or for me, his prisoner. Take your share of
suffering for the Message along with the rest of us, relying on the power of God.
Word of God. Word of life.
Thanks be God!
* GOSPEL Luke 18:9-17 (The Message version)
The holy Gospel according to Luke.
ALL: Glory to you, O Lord.
9
He told his next story to some who were complacently pleased with themselves over their moral performance and
looked down their noses at the common people: 10“Two men went up to the Temple to pray, one a Pharisee, the other
a tax man. 11The Pharisee posed and prayed like this: ‘Oh, God, I thank you that I am not like other people—robbers,
crooks, adulterers, or, heaven forbid, like this tax man. 12I fast twice a week and tithe on all my income.’ 13“Meanwhile
the tax man, slumped in the shadows, his face in his hands, not daring to look up, said, ‘God, give mercy. Forgive me,
a sinner.’” 14Jesus commented, “This tax man, not the other, went home made right with God. If you walk around
with your nose in the air, you’re going to end up flat on your face, but if you’re content to be simply yourself, you will
become more than yourself.” 15People brought babies to Jesus, hoping he might touch them. When the disciples saw
it, they shooed them off. 16Jesus called them back. “Let these children alone. Don’t get between them and me. These
children are the kingdom’s pride and joy. 17Mark this: Unless you accept God’s kingdom in the simplicity of a child,
you’ll never get in.”
The Gospel of the Lord.
ALL: Praise to you, O Christ.

THE LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name,
thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses,
        as we forgive those who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.
HOLY COMMUNION - ALL WELCOME! If you prefer gluten-free wafers, please let the communion server know.
If you would like to receive Communion in your car—please put your vehicle flasher lights on at the beginning of
Communion. When we receive Communion we are encouraged to turn our minds away from earthly things and
remember Jesus who loved us and gave Himself for us. Therefore it is appropriate, and a courtesy to those
communing, that this be a time of quiet personal examination and reflection. Thank you and God Bless and Keep You.

will close Sunday, July 18th at 1:00 pm. Once the On-line auction opens and you have registered, you will be able to
begin bidding right away. To register or give go to www.campknutson.org/NUTS. Your support is needed more
than ever as we welcome campers back this summer with a variety of in-person and virtual camp experiences. This
means more resources are needed to ensure camp is as safe as possible and to celebrate our campers to the fullest.
NEW THIS YEAR - THAT’S AMORE PARTY BOXES – Host a watch party event with a small gathering of family and
friends using this party box. The box includes several homemade items by Camp K volunteers, including a cutting
board, wine charms, candies, recipes, trivia cards and more. You will be able to purchase a box after you register
on the On-line bidding site. The proceeds raised through party box sales will go towards horseback riding
scholarships for our campers. Guests who register will receive an email with instructions for joining the virtual
event and on-line auction. The VIRTUAL RECEPTION will start at 6:45 pm and the LIVESTREAM will start at 7:00
p.m. If you have questions or need assistance, please contact us at camp.knutson@lssmn.org or at 218-543-4232.
Volunteer Opportunities at Care N‘ Share Café in Emily and Brainerd Soup Kitchen
“For I was hungry and you gave me food; I was thirsty and you gave me drink; I was a stranger and you welcomed me.” Matthew 25:35

Crosslake Lutheran has committed to serving and helping our neighbors at the Care N’ Share Café in Emily and the
Brainerd Soup Kitchen located on Oak Street. Volunteers are needed. Can You help??
Care N’ Share is all about helping our neighbors in the community by providing a free meal every Wednesday. Care
N’ Share is searching for individuals or a group to join our existing volunteers to assist in packaging meals on
Wednesdays from noon – 2pm. No experience necessary! Meals are delivered to about 150 home-bound people
within a 30 mile radius of Emily. Pre-reserved meals are also available for pick up at Care N’ Share by calling
952-240-7963 by noon and picked up between 1:00 and 2:30 pm on Wednesday. Care N’ Share is located in the
fellowship hall at the Wesleyan Church on Highway 6 in Emily.
Crosslake Lutheran serves at the Brainerd Soup Kitchen the second Sunday of the Month from 11:30 – 2pm. Contact
Lori Nelson at 651-246-7292 or lorinelson@brainerd.net to get on the email list for volunteer opportunities at either
the Care N’ Share Café in Emily or the Brainerd Soup Kitchen, or if you need more volunteer information. Join us for
fun, meet new people and help out our community.

                                             CONGREGATIONAL UPDATE
We are turning the page in our Christian life together. Here are some updates based on the latest guidance from
the MN Department of Health. We thank you for your continued flexibility, patience, support, and prayers during
this unusual time. We understand that people are at different comfort levels as these restrictions are lifted. You
are always welcome to wear a mask or maintain distance as it’s comfortable for you. We hope we’ve created a
culture where everyone’s comfort level can be accommodated in these complex times. We look forward to
gathering, growing, and going with you this summer! Thanks be to God!
