NC Workforce Credentials Projected growth in NC occupations by required education, 2018-2028 The fastest-growing jobs require a postsecondary degree or nondegree All NC credential. The growth Jobs of jobs requiring a 6.3% nondegree credential or postsecondary degree is projected to outpace total job growth.

NC STAR Jobs NC Workforce Credentials will carry out biennial review of sectors to determine: o New priority credentials that may have emerged o Confirm that employers still value the credentials o Confirm credentials are still associated with occupations rated 3 Stars or higher o Remove the credentials that no longer meet the criteria

Submission Process: • LEAD will conduct analysis to determine if the credential is linked to in-demand occupations & a path to sustainable wage career • Evidence from employers that they use the credential as a hiring preference: • Letters from 3 employers or 1 employer and 1 industry association • Other key information such as: • Who issues the credential? • Is it statewide or regional? • What are the assessments to earn the credential?
NC STAR Jobs Short-Term Workforce Development Grant Program: • SECTION 6.6.(b) Programs of Study. – The State Board of Community Colleges, in collaboration with the Department of Commerce, shall determine the eligible programs of study for the Program, according to the occupations that are in the highest demand in the State. The eligible programs of study shall include programs such as architecture and construction, health sciences, information technology, electrical line worker, and manufacturing programs and may include other programs to meet local workforce needs.
NC STAR Jobs Short-Term Workforce Development Grant Program: • SECTION 6.6.(c) Award Amounts. …the State Board of Community Colleges shall award grants in an amount of up to seven hundred fifty dollars ($750.00) to students pursuing short-term, noncredit State and industry workforce credentials. The State Board of Community Colleges shall establish criteria for initial and continuing eligibility for students. At a minimum, students shall be required to qualify as a resident for tuition purposes under the criteria set forth in G.S. 116-143.1 and in accordance with the coordinated and centralized residency determination process administered by the State Education Assistance Authority.
