Must be ENERGY STAR certified and hard wired (cannot be plug-
in or portable). Fixtures come in hundreds of decorative styles

They use up to 1/4 electricity than standard fixtures with hundreds

ENERGY STAR certified ceiling fans can have energy-efficient
lighting, energy-efficient motors, or both. Look for the ENERGY
STAR label.
Ceiling fans come in several decorative styles for all the rooms in
your home.
Key Features
ENERGY STAR certified ceiling fans with light fixtures designed
for CFLs take into consideration their particular light radiation
properties, so you might be happier with a custom designed
ENERGY STAR fixture than if you simply replace an
incandescent bulb with a CFL.
Use fans as a cool alternative to air conditioners. Install ceiling
fans to help rooms feel cooler, instead of using an air conditioner,
or as a supplement to your air conditioner allowing you to set the
temperature up a few degrees.
It requires a tenth of the electricity needed to run compared to an
air conditioner.
In the summer, the blades should rotate down to move the air
downwards to help produce a cooling breeze. In the winter, the
Key Benefits blades should rotate up to move air upwards towards the ceiling
to disperse the warm air that tends to accumulate there and thus
distributing the heat more evenly in the room.

INDOOR MOTION SENSORS (hard wired)
Incentive Amount $4 per motion sensor
These devices replace your standard light switch and are
directly wired to your light(s) – hence the term – “hard wired”.
These devices sense motion in a room and many can be
programmed to determine the amount of time without motion
before shutting off.
Key Features
In some cases the switch senses light levels as well. When it is
dark and motion is detected, the lights are turned on. These
devices are ideal for kids’ play rooms. If there is sufficient
ambient lighting and there is motion in the room, the lights will
stay off.
Motion sensors give you assurance that lights will not be left on
when not needed. They shut the lights off automatically when
Key Benefits people leave the room and forget to do so – saving electricity
and money. It can also provide security, lighting up hallways and
garages automatically.
Although installing motion sensors has a greater up-front cost

immediate and long term.

INDOOR DIMMER SWITCHES (hard wired)

Dimmers come in rotary, slide or switch styles to match a
consumer’s needs and décor.
These devices allow users to control the intensity and amount of
Key Features light needed.
Dimmers work with all incandescent light bulbs, but not with all
CFL light bulbs. Consumers should look for specially marked
CFLs that are designed for use with a dimmer switch.
Turning down the light level can save electricity and extend the
Key Benefits life of light bulbs. Dimmer switches help reduce your energy
consumption.

INDOOR TIMERS (hard wired)

These devices replace your standard light switch and are
directly wired to your light(s) – hence the term – “hard wired”.
The light switch timer allows the user to choose the amount of
Key Features time to leave lights or fans on in a specific room. Some timers
have the ability to be programmed to turn on and off
intermittently for security purposes.
Timers can be mechanical or digital.
These devices allow consumers to set appliances or lights to
turn on or shut off at designated times. Not only does this save
the user electricity, it can also provide users added security as
Key Benefits lights come on and off automatically; important when arriving
home after dark or when on holiday. This avoids the need to
have a light on all the time.

Product: HEAVY DUTY OUTDOOR TIMER
Incentive Amount $3.00 - $4.00 per
Heavy-duty outdoor timers can be used in many applications
including car engine block heaters, outdoor lighting and
electrically heated aboveground pools and hot tubs.
Key Features
Timers save energy by allowing lights and appliances to be
powered on only when necessary.
A heavy-duty outdoor timer is ideal for ensuring that an engine
block heater is not unnecessarily turned on all night. They
automatically turn on only when needed – generally 2 hours
before leaving home in the morning. Warming your engine with a
block heater can improve fuel economy by up to 10%.
Key Benefits This type of timer can also reduce the operating time of the
circulating pump for electrically heated above-ground pools or
hot tubs and can save you up to $75 a year on your electricity
costs. It is not necessary to operate the pool equipment 24/7.
The timer can be set to cycle equipment on and off to maintain
water quality while saving electricity.

Power bars with integrated timer (built-in timer) or with auto-
shutoff allow customers to control when power is available for
appliances and electronic devices. Ideally suited for computer
workstations or home theatre systems, these power bars shut off
Key Features electricity to electronic products typically left on or in “stand-by”
mode. Even in “stand-by” these electronic devices consume a
significant amount of electricity, often referred to as “phantom
power”. These power bars can reduce this phantom power.
Power bars with timer: These devices allow you to automatically
turn off electronics and appliances during the time of day in
which they are unlikely to be used. For example, a power bar
with a timer can be used as a charging station for all your
portable electronics. The charger’s black box (the transformer)
consumes electricity if the portable device is connected for
charging or not. If you charge the device overnight, the power
bar can be set to shut off the power to the transformer during the
day when electricity is more expensive. If you keep all the
chargers plugged into the power bar, you’ll always know where
they are!
Power bars with auto-shutoff: Some power bars have “smart”
sensors that can detect when an electronic product (like a
Key Benefits computer or television) goes into sleep mode. When used with a
computer workstation when it goes into sleep mode (or is shut
off), the power bar will shut down power to designated outlets it
controls where devices such as monitors, speakers or printers
are plugged in. When the TV of your home entertainment
system is shut off, the power bar can shut down power to your
home theatre amplifier, DVD or Blu-Ray player, powered
subwoofer or gaming console automatically.
It is not recommended to plug your set-top box into a controlled
outlet.
Reducing the use of phantom power can save users up to 20%
on electricity cost.
