6 A.M. Thoughts
Keira Duryee

I am just a man
And you are just a woman.
That’s as simple and complex as it gets.
We were two complex solar systems.
We are made up of planets that don’t particularly serve a purpose.
But that makes us more beautiful,
Yet more unpredictable.
One day, or night, I don’t know which it was--
Your asteroid danced across the empty space that I called me.
And I decided to dance with you,
Because that was the only thing I could do.
But one day, or night, I don’t know which it was--
You vanished.
I felt an empty void inside of me that you temporarily occupied.
Nevertheless, I called it love.
I guess I should’ve known you weren’t going to stay.
You were meant for a bigger galaxy.
That makes me feel emotion which should be called sadness,
Or is it a sense of unkempt anxiety?
Either way, I guess we were never really meant to love each other,
If that’s even what it was.
Yes . . . I truly believe I loved you.
I am just a man
And you are just a woman.
That’s as simple and complex as it gets.

Fly Me To the Moon
A. D.

Fly me to the moon
just out of reach
To get me away
from the sorrows
that I keep
locked away inside
a dark wooden box
buried in my soul.
I know not what lurks
in those shadows.
So, fly me to the moon
somewhere I can dream
of a love untold
a secret to unfold
a place to be me.
A place where the light
is always green;
a place where creativity
reigns supreme;
a place where God
is just but an arm’s reach.
Fly me to the moon.

Falling Apart
Josiah Inman

Life has went away
while I’ve gone astray.
Please tell me what to do,
I never want to choose.
It falls around me,
The tribes say it’s due to chi.
I need but to open my eye
to see all the people cry.
Pain is the promise I will keep,
I will bring it while you weep.
I am the whisper in the night,
Hear me while the tears blur your sight.
There is no longer any hope,
How will I cope?
I am within the grips of dark,
I have now been made the devil’s mark.
Please let me escape!
I don’t need a chart to see that
things fall apart.
Help me.

Breath of Life
Maximo Franco

Sucked in,
Pushed out.
These are the breaths,
The breaths of life.

Stolen and abused,
Saddened and misused.
These are the souls,
Who breathe of life.

Joyful and open minded,
Amazing and talented,
Unique and loving.
Intelligent from learning,
How to breathe of life.

Alone are some,
Seeking others.
While some can’t get away,
From the group they stay.

If this is life,
How is it so?
That I now stand,
Together nor alone,
Yet without a body,
Or a breath.
So now suck in,
And my last out,
My final breath of life.

Raveled In The Trenches
Katrina Herrera

raveled in the trenches of a town susceptible to misconception
i saw myself bereft of life; smothered by viscous knobs of glue
adhering flying pages of slander
a fictitious manifestation springs from the paper--she is a verb of malleability
i whisper her name, three syllables of lead and a roll of poison
i constructed the wild strands, the wild gaze, the wild composition of printed atoms that
now lay mangled
a testament to my subjective war with the narrative.

he utters to her, not me, “people do not love those whose eyes are elsewhere.”
i eye the cadaver, her achromatic tint matching my penmanship and
wonder when they will regard her discontinuity.
for her subset persona is composed in morphemes and plaster
as she slides across the ample spine of a dictionary
to unearth the amassment of words that appease to the masses.

he is looking at me, but waiting for her. the steady percolation
of the venom cascades off his tongue like water
pulling, pulling, pulling him towards the remains by his head
he devours dead ink
he composes a verb that allures his adrenaline
he begs me to give her breath
i leave flowers on her pages.

Time
A. D.

Time.
What is time?
Is it he passing
of hours
or is it
the way the earth moves?
Is it the seasons
or even
the color of the sky?
Is it the way he
looks at you
vulnerable, trusting, and loving?
What is time,
and why do we
measure it?
Maybe we long to
Capture the eternity
laid out in front of us in
smaller increments,
tiny snapshots to savor
and then slowly fade away
when the end draws near.

Untitled
Maximo Franco

And then he said
“I ask thy lord
To make it rain.
Show the world
My deepest pain.”

And with the rain
Reflecting his pain
His sorrows broke
Like a flood
For him to see
On his hands was blood.

With tears drowning
His loudest cries,
“ I ask the world
To forgive,
You broke my soul
Is that motive?”

With his blood seeping
From his chest,
His grieving cries
Were put to rest.

Though his body
Was drained of life,
On his skin
Was a tapestry of strife.

Faith
Stephen Shepherd

The dark surrounds me
But I have nothing to fear,
Because I, of the many,
know that God is near.
He protects me from evil,
And from Satan too.
Put your faith in Jesus,
Because Jesus loves you.

In The End
A. D.

In the end, the
God-sent ice saved me.
The wreckage from the fire
Is still there, but
That is another poem for
Another time.
At first, I was scared of the
Ice. I didn’t want to be
Burned again, nor did I want
To accept something that did not
Come from Him.
Fearful that the ice would melt,
I frantically accepted its offer;
The offer promised me peace and a
New beginning.
Eventually, I came to realize
That I had no reason to fear
The ice. I just had to make
Sure that I wasn’t thanking
The ice for saving me.
I had to learn by enduring a
Crucible – that my worth does
Not lie in the fire nor the ice,
But in the Cross alone.

The Moon Shines
A. D.

The moon shines,
the stars twinkle.
The crickets chirp,
and I sit in awe
at a world so beautiful.
God knew what He was doing,
crafting such a place as this.
If only the world was not
crumbling at our fingertips.
If only we were not
destroying one another.
What happened to love
and kindness?
What happened to believing?
Jesus Christ died so that we
may live in heaven with Him.
Why must we turn our backs?
Take a look around at the
world we have created.
I want to grow it.
I will not destroy, not anymore.

Drink From This
A.D.

Drink from this
Old rotten dirt
Drink from this cup of lace.
Drink and you too
Shall see
A lie in permanent place.
The world is not kind
And simple.
They lie to you
Right from the crib.
The world is a dark
And scary place
That won’t let
The light shine in.
So drink form this cup a spell
Drink from the cup of pure gold
That only wishes you well.
Go out in the dark
And dance with the shadows,
Make friends
With the spirits too.
For if you drink from this cup
Of pure gold,
The spirits will take you too.

A Perfect Life
Josiah Inman

A perfect life
only causes strife
a change in the air
the lightning flairs
the man slips away
in the bed you lay
you set the sea aflame
as everyone went and came
tired of running
tryin’ to find something
tired of hiding
from those who are chiding
what you look for
is at your core
all your life you lied
to never let go of your pride
