ESP Mission Statement:
At St. Nicholas School, you will see a lot of
exciting things happening in an atmosphere
of warmth and respect for each child. While
challenging all its students academically, St.
Nicholas also nurtures each child’s special gifts
and interests and recognizes the differences that
make each person unique.
As an Episcopal school, St. Nicholas School:
♠ Is grounded in love, respect, and nurturing of the individual child;
♠ Integrates spiritual, intellectual, artistic, and physical development;
♠ Encourages personal responsibility as learners and as members of
a community;
♠ Includes and accepts differences of religious, cultural, racial,
gender, and socio-economic backgrounds; and,
♠ Builds positive values for life-long learning.– Welcome to the St. Nicholas School Extended School Program –
The Extended School Program (ESP) provides a comprehensive selection of
after-school enrichment classes that are educational, comfortable, and most
importantly, fun. We hope you find a class that is interesting and appealing to
your child.
Please note that fees for these classes vary, and enrollment may be limited.
An early registration will ensure your child has a reservation in the class you
prefer.
Thank you for your interest in our program. We work hard to plan a schedule
of classes that offer children a chance to socialize with peers and learn
together in small groups.
Kevin Leckenby
Extended School Program Director
AFTER-SCHOOL TUTORING is available at a
rate of $45 per hour and HOMEWORK HELP is
available for $25 per hour. Times are arranged
with the tutor. Fees are billed to the miscellaneous
school account.
* Important Note:
The Extended School Program (ESP) is responsible for managing
all after-school programs. It is critical that parents accommodate us
by signing out children through the ESP office for all after-school
activities.

6Garden Club with Mr. Conner
As the Gardening and Outdoor Coordinator here at St. Nicholas, and as a lifelong Naturalist, I have
developed a love and curiosity for life around me. From animals to plants, from friends to students, I love
to foster relationships and growth with everyone and everything around me. I graduated from St. Nicholas
in 2009. Looking back on my years here, it is my hope to help students experience learning, growth,
independence, and curiosity in the unique and special way that only St. Nicholas can offer.
Garden Club
Levels 3-7 (min. 2 / max. 15)
Mondays, begins February 28
(class does not meet on Mondays when
there is no school, or if there is an occasional
faculty meeting advance notice will be given).
3:30-4:30pm Cost: $53
Garden Club is a place for us to experience growth of
all kinds. As we tend to our own growing plants in the
garden and on the nature trail, we will also embrace our
sense of curiosity, wonder, and foster a care for other
living things. In addition to the basic gardening tasks
of planting, watering, and weeding, we will incorporate
outdoor games, taste test the different vegetables we
grow, and most importantly, focus on our own personal
creativity and growth through time spent outside.
Students will leave Garden Club with not only a sense
of accomplishment, but hopefully a newfound care
for nurturing other living things around them and an
excitement for the outdoors.

Annalisa D’Andrea will return as one of our coaches this year. Annalisa graduated from
St. Nicholas in 2008 and currently attends UTC. She played offense at Baylor. Diane
Madeksho, a current UTC student, will join Annalisa as a second coach. Diane played
lacrosse for her high school, St. Benedict, in Memphis.
Lacrosse
We are excited for our fourth season with a
lacrosse team. The purpose of this team and
league is to introduce young athletes to the
fastest growing sport in America. The team is
open to both boys and girls from Levels 5, 6
and 7, although there is now a separate league
for girls which formed several years ago. More
information is available by request.
We are an instructional team in an instructional
league. New players are welcome!
An emphasis will be placed on teaching your
children how to play the game with finesse and
skill. That being said, lacrosse is a contact sport.
As an instructional team, our goal is for equal
playing time for all athletes who have participated
in practice. The coach will place our students in a
position where they can succeed. Their personal success will aid the team’s success and will foster their love
for the game. Since this is a contact sport, your child needs to attend practices to learn the game and skills
necessary for success. At any time, if your child is unable to attend a weekday practice please inform the
coaches or Kevin Leckenby.
The season begins in February. More details will follow. Practices are from dismissal to 4:15 (students not
picked up at the end of practice would go to ESP).
Levels: 5-7 (no min./max) Costs include
Lacrosse league registration fee. $TBD (it’s
been $100 in the past and includes payment
for referees, some team equipment and
a jersey that students may keep after the
season).

Extended
School
Program.
Low Zone
Low Zone is an opportunity for
Lower Primary students (Levels 3-4)
to participate in their own softer version of “Tone

2021-2022 MUSIC LESSONS POLICY
For the time being, we will continue to offer a IN-PERSON or VIRTUAL option for music lessons.
Students will commit to one or the other mode for their private lesson each week. All billing will be handled through STNS.
Fees for private lesson times are as follows:
30-minute private lesson $30; 45-minute lesson $45; 1 hour lesson $60
If group lessons are offered, fees may vary based on length of lesson, number of students, materials, etc. These will be
clearly stated in advance by the teacher.
If charging any additional fees, teachers will clearly communicate these costs to parents. This may include a minimal yearly
studio fee to cover the cost of special events, recitals or rewards, or reimbursement if the teacher has purchased books or
other materials for a student.
With protocols in place, we hope to be able welcome families to recitals and performances in the Chapel space again this
year. All events will be planned TENTATIVELY with the understanding that the safety and health of our school community
are paramount; therefore, we do reserve the right to cancel if COVID situations worsen.
By committing to a lesson, you are reserving a weekly time with the teacher. The number of REGULARLY SCHEDULED
lessons per month will be billed to your account.
When scheduling lessons, teachers adhere to the STNS calendar, including any scheduled holidays, breaks, half days, etc.
Teachers should provide advance notice of other days when they are unable to teach. In case of an emergency cancellation
by the teacher or school (for example, illness, school closure or a weather-related incident) no charge will be applied for
that date.
We expect that every effort will be made to have children present, and prepared for all scheduled lessons. Our absentee
policy will continue to grant ONE excused absence or make-up lesson per semester due to illness, religious holiday or
unexpected medical emergency.
However, during the COVID-19 crisis, we recognize that there may be a need for greater flexibility. Any absences in
addition to the above must continue to fall under the same guidelines, and in all cases, it is the parent’s responsibility to
communicate the reason for the absence to the teacher. More than two absences will be handled under the direction of
both the teacher and Ms. Miscio, and absences deemed excessive will result in dismissal from the studio.
Live lessons can become virtual as needed. For example, if a student stays home from school on his/her lesson day, but still
feels up to participating, the teacher may be able to make accommodations to do so.
• Students, teachers and parents (if attending or escorting child to/from lesson) WILL WEAR MASKS at all times.
• Students and teachers WILL WASH HANDS thoroughly before beginning the lesson.
• Pianos will be sanitized between each student, as well as any commonly used items.
• Teachers understand the importance of promptness. Please help us be mindful of this goal by being on time for
the lesson.
If your child has checked into ESP for the afternoon, the teacher must escort the student to/from the lesson. This
may shorten the lesson time slightly, but teachers do their best to ensure that each student receives the best possible
instruction and experience.
While every effort will be made to communicate with parents and Ms. Miscio with hopes of resolving difficult situations,
private teachers reserve the right to terminate lessons with those who do not cooperate with the guidelines listed above
and/or engaging in inappropriate behavior.
**The health and well-being of everyone involved is of utmost importance, and we will continue to closely monitor COVID
conditions. Please understand that changes may be necessary throughout the year. You will be informed immediately of any
updates to the safety protocols listed in this policy.
15Reminders!
1. Don’t forget to sign out your student through ESP.
2. Class size is limited – register early.
3. Please keep a list of classes for which your child is registered.
Space is provided below.
4. A registration form must be completed for each student. Because
teachers need advance notice for supply purchases, all changes/
cancellations MUST be submitted in writing or by e-mail, and
must be made two weeks in advance of the class to avoid being
charged.
5. If you are interested in teaching a class, please contact Kevin
Leckenby: kleckenby@stns.org
6. ESP direct phone number is 894-6485.
7. ESP web site is www.stns.org, and ESP direct e-mail is
