Injuries are a part of Athletics – each coach does their best to
reduce the risk of injuries through year round weight training,
conditioning, proper technique and teaching about nutrition.
If an athlete is injured – they should see the trainer FIRST!

OHSAA Preseason Meeting
      2020 - 2021
• Why Interscholastic Athletics &
               OHSAA Beliefs
Participants in interscholastic athletics programs should engage in a well-
rounded experience that includes participation in a multitude of
extracurricular activities.

In interscholastic athletics:
        • Student academic achievement and success
take priority over athletics achievement and
       success.
        • The success of a TEAM is more important than
       individual awards.

Participation in interscholastic athletics programs is a PRIVILEGE, not a
right.

• Concussions

• It is EXTREMELY important for everyone involved in
school sports to recognize the potential dangers
associated with concussions and review their
  responsibilities in protecting student-athletes.

• Concussions are NOT just a problem in football . . .
concussions can happen in just about any sport!
• Concussions

• In Ohio, any athlete who exhibits signs, symptoms, or behaviors
consistent with a concussion . . . such as loss of consciousness,
headache, dizziness, confusion or balance problems . . . shall be
IMMEDIATELY removed from the contest or practice and shall
not return to play that same day.

• Thereafter, the student shall not return to practice or
competition until cleared with WRITTEN AUTHORIZATION from
a physician or health care provider approved by the local board
  in accordance with state law.
Attendance Guidelines –
           8:15am Rule
All students are expected to attend a full day of school.
Student-athletes absent during any portion of the school day
for an excused absence approved by the High School
Principal will be permitted to participate in practice or a
contest on the day of the absence.

If a student has an unexcused absence, they will not be able
to participate in practice or a contest on the day of the
unexcused absence.
Transportation Waiver Form
It is the expectation of the school that students
ride the bus to and from ALL contests

In approved situations, the Athletic Transportation Waiver Form may be used
to provide alternate transportation on a case by case situation. It MUST be
completed and signed by a parent, coach, and administrator prior to the trip!

This form can be found in the office.
Important Eligibility Fact!
During the sport season, you may not participate on a non-
school team in the same sport in which you are
                participating for the school.

                    For Example…
                    Club Volleyball
                    AAU Basketball

If you participate in anything (ie. try-outs, practices,
open gyms) DURING the sport season, you will be
INELIGIBLE!
