CRIME NOVEL

An ingenious mystery about crime and punishment

After a long hiatus, Charlotte Schneidmann returns to service on the police force. The life-threatening injury
she suffered on her last case has left its mark, but that hasn’t changed anything. Even now, Charlotte would
like nothing better than to go out on investigations with her old team led by Peter Käfer. For the time being,
however, she has to content herself with desk duty.

In the office, she meets Katrin Ortrup, whose little son was kidnapped years ago but then freed by Charlotte
and Käfer. Newly divorced, Katrin recently moved into a suburban apartment building. Years ago, a notorious
murder occurred there, and for some time all of the building’s residents have been receiving anonymous
letters threatening that they, too, could experience the same fate. While all of her neighbors dismiss the letters
as a sick joke, Katrin is sensitive because of her past; she is extremely concerned. Charlotte promises to take
a closer look at the incidents.
It quickly becomes known that the previous tenants in Katrin’s apartment, a married couple by the name of
Delbrück, also received the letters and that Carla Delbrück had been brutally murdered. To Charlotte’s delight, Christine Drews
Peter Käfer is assigned to the case. He takes Klaus Delbrück into investigative custody as the lead suspect. It COLDER THAN FEAR
doesn’t take Charlotte long to convince her former partner that this murder could involve much more than

simple marital drama. It is quite obvious that the building’s gruesome past plays a decisive role in the case.

himself? Charlotte cannot rid herself of the impression that a devious mastermind is at work, playing cat and
