Greetings dear
I hope this newsletter finds you and your family
well during these times! I recently joined a
Readers! denominational committee called Committee on
Admission to Ministry (CAM) - CAM oversees the
students who are on the ordination track as well as
by Rev. Alison Lane-Olsen those who are designated “Licensed Pastors” in the
denomination. These last few days, members of CAM,
students and licensed pastors were invited to join
over Zoom for a “Winter Intensive” with classes on
Baptism, the Holy Supper and preaching.
As the class on Baptism started, we were asked what
our experience of baptism was. Do you remember? (I
thought I would pass that question on to you!)
Perhaps you are like me and were baptized as an
infant and have no memory of the event! Or, maybe
you have been baptized multiple times? Water
sprinkled on the forehead, or full immersion? What was your experience of baptism? I
raise the question because it felt so nice
during that class just to be reminded how
sacred and life giving water is.... Even if we
can’t remember our baptism or perhaps
were not baptized, we might still pause
and think for a moment about the way
water often makes us feel….would you say
it helps you feel restored? Like new?
Refreshed? Cleansed? Clear? If so, this
may be something to draw on during
these times. It appears our world is in
need of healing...conflicts and tension
seem to abound among nations, political
factions, communities, families, spiritual
communities..maybe we feel conflicted
ourselves. This is something humanity has
been struggling with for so long - conflict
and war energy have been with us for how
many years on Earth? What if you could
find yourself at the edge of the river right
now (think warm weather!), and it was
easy and comforting to walk right in and
submerge completely...and while
underneath, you could feel the natural
flow of the river take everything in your life
that felt heavy and strained and
unforgiven...and when you came back to
the surface and breathed in again, you ZOOM Attendance
knew something vital had shifted within
you - that you had been able to let go of
the heightened emotions and what had December & January
felt “stuck.” Our church teachings offer the Church Zoom Attendance
reminder that we are here to grow our
spiritual selves, to elevate our
consciousness. May you take a walk in December 6 – No power – no Zoom
your mind into whatever sacred body of December 13 - 39
water that uplifts you when you need a December 20 - 41
moment to come back to yourself and Christmas Eve Service – 52
your purpose as a soul. Did you see anyone
January 10 - 29
there beside you? Please know you are
surrounded by Love every moment. January 17 - 38
With Blessings for a refreshed January 24 – 32
and centered February,
~ Rev. AlisonFEBRUARY 2021

Here are the images that were discussed during
Reverend Alison's talk on Sunday January 24th,
as well as some information from wikipedia.
"Chakras (Sanskrit: च , IAST: cakra, Pali:
cakka, lit. "wheel, circle"; English: /ˈtʃʌk-,
ˈtʃækrə/ CHUK-, CHAK-rə) are various focal
points used in a variety of ancient meditation
practices, collectively denominated as Tantra, or
the esoteric or inner traditions of Hinduism. This
article contains Indic text. Without proper
rendering support, you may see question marks
or boxes, misplaced vowels or missing conjuncts
instead of Indic text. The concept is found in the Early Sanskrit texts speak of them both as
early traditions of Hinduism. Beliefs differ meditative visualizations combining flowers and
between the Indian religions, with many mantras and as physical entities in the body.
Buddhist texts consistently mentioning five Within kundalini yoga, the techniques of breath
chakras, while Hindu sources offer six or even exercises, visualizations, mudras, bandhas, kriyas,
seven. and mantras are focused on manipulating the flow
of subtle energy through chakras. The modern
Western chakra system arose from multiple
sources, starting in the 1880s, followed by Sir John
Woodroffe's 1919 book The Serpent Power, and
Charles W. Leadbeater's 1927 book The Chakras,
which introduced the seven rainbow colours for
the chakras. Psychological and other attributes,
and a wide range of supposed correspondences
with other systems such as alchemy, astrology,
gemstones, homeopathy, Kabbalah and Tarot were
added later." for more interesting facts visit
