CEO'S OUTLOOK
Almost 2 years and counting!

We have given almost two years of our precious time to the pandemic. We cannot afford to restrict our
potential anymore and underutilize the workforce capabilities.

We may no longer be in an acute crisis thanks to vaccines. However, we need to remember that measures
such as masking and social distancing are still required even though you and I may be vaccinated but
others may not be. It is required to pay heed to the warnings unit the pandemic is finally over. Until then, we
need to buckle up, take the necessary precautions, and resume our everyday life.

Always remember that the fear of darkness will fade only if we dare to face it, safely.

I urge everyone to be cautious about their health, take precautions and continue the fight against COVID.

Stay safe!.

                                                                                           RAVI VARRIER

TÊTE-A-TÊTE
You have been in Al Rashed for more than two decades now, how has
been your experience?
Being a part of Al-Rashed is like being part of something special. The support
from our management is highly appreciated and they believe in what we are
doing, and work is highly recognized and appreciated also. The support from
the colleagues is also highly mentionable. Al-Rashed way of treating
employees gives them the feeling like family members and make them feel
that they are at home. It’s good to check yourself occasionally and ascertain
whether you’re still happy at certain periods of your career. Yet I feel that I’ve
worked with so many clients across diverse industries, and I’ve had such a M M ZULFIKAR ALI

variety of experiences that I’ve never felt the need to pursue a job with another
company. It’s the challenge, the excitement and the thrill that get me out of
bed, and that, to me, is the reason why I continue my career journey with Al-
Rashed Family.

If you have to summarize your journey in Al-Rashed, how it would be?
I started my career here in the year 2000, Twenty-one years later and I’m still here. I stayed on my career path
because I love the challenge, the thrill, the work and the people and because Al-Rashed offers one of the most
collaborative cultures I’ve ever experienced.

What is the most fun part of your job?
What I love most about my job is the sense of family around our workplace. The work is hard, no doubt.
Fostering a fun work environment can make your employees less stressed, more productive, more creative, and
more engaged. And in the long run, all of this can have a positive impact on your organization’s bottom line

What are the challenges you come across in your day-to-day task?
According to me, every day is a challenge in life. We are working in the shipping industry and we are in touch
with various clients whole over the world, to cope and deal with them we have to set our mind in an accurate &
precise manner.

The things that you do to unwind after a long and hectic day?
I spend time with my family, grandchildren & friends. Also, I try to find at least one hour for walking and exercise.

What are the major changes you have seen in yourself after working for Al Rashed?
As time flies, we can see many changes in life, The main changes for me were Al-Rashed teaching me the
various lessons in life mainly patience and maturity. In my perspective, these two things are the main factors
influencing a person’s life present and future.

What one thing do you believe that can be done differently in our company?
Everything is well organized in our company. In my 21 years of journey, I never felt there is something that
should be done differently. Our management takes care of everything even our family members. The best
example is Al Rashed’s prompt help in providing the COVID vaccine to all employees and their family members.
I am proud to be a part of this prestigious company.

                                                                                            INTERVIEWED BY NASEEMA KHAN

Maersk brings carbon neutral shipping era closer with €5.95 billion
                                    order for greener ships
AP Møller Maersk, the world’s largest container shipping company, is
advancing on its decarbonisation strategy after ordering eight container
vessels that it says will be able to operate on carbon-neutral e-methanol fuel.
The container ships, each with a capacity of up to 16,000 twenty-foot
equivalent units (TEU), are being built by Hyundai Heavy Industries and will
cost the Danish shipping giant a total of $7 billion (€5.95 billion).
The agreement includes an option to purchase a further four vessels in 2025.

World's first crewless, zero emissions cargo ship will set sail in Norway
A Norwegian company has created what it calls the world's first zero-

If all goes to plan, the ship will make its first journey between two Norwegian

autonomous systems. Eventually, all movements will be monitored from
                                    three onshore data control centers.
It's not the first autonomous ship -- an autonomous ferry launched in Finland
in 2018 -- but it is the first fully electric container ship, say its makers.

Flights from 6 banned countries to Kuwait will resume soon
After the government gave the green light to resume flights with India,
Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Egypt, Bangladesh and Nepal, the Director of
Operations at the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA),
Mansour Al Hashemi, stated that the flights will begin soon.
His announcement was made as word circulated that direct flights from
the six countries will resume, after operations were halted for several
                    months.

Kuwait allows non-emergency surgeries to resume on August 29
As the health crisis is stabilizing in Kuwait, the Ministry of Health has
announced that all non-emergency surgeries in government, private and
specialized hospitals can resume as of Sunday, August 29. The Ministry
of Health put a hold on all non-emergency surgeries months ago as it
was battling a surge in COVID-19 cases.

Kuwait achieves herd immunity, says Health Minister
Kuwait has achieved herd immunity against COVID-19 as 70 per cent of

Minister of Health said on his Twitter account on Tuesday.
Since the population of Kuwait is 4.67 million, inoculating 3.27 million, or
70 per cent of the population, means achieving community immunity
                    according to the indicators.
Kuwait kicked off mass vaccinations against COVID-19 in December.
