    Newsletter Term 1 Week 8 Wednesday 18th March 2020

                                     Principal’s message

Following departmental directives all whole school assemblies have been can-
celled. The drumming performance that was scheduled for Monday afternoon
will be rescheduled for later in the year. Scripture and Ethics lessons have also
been cancelled. At this stage we are encouraging the children to wash their
hands regularly and cough into their elbows. We will also limit the interactions
between classes and encourage social distancing. Any child that appears un-
well or is demonstrating symptoms should be kept at home or will be sent
home. Regular updates will be put on the Skoolbag App as we receive them.
We currently use some excellent online programs across the various Key Learning Areas. These
companies have come on board and are offering free trials and links for students to use at home if
they are quarantined. The following programs are available thus far:
 Mappen - Integrated units in History, Geography, Science, English and Art will be coming
     soon.
 Department website - https://education.nsw.gov.au/teaching-and-learning/curriculum/
     learning-from-home
 Teach Starter - https://www.teachstarter.com/freeplus/ - A series of free Learning from
Home Packs for each year level from Prep to Year 6 to support teachers and parents during
     potential school closures.
These teaching resource packs have been handpicked by the Teach Starter team to include a
range of resources that can be completed at home by children with the assistance of their parents
or guardians. This offer will be available until March 31, at which time we will re-evaluate the offer.
The packs include resources covering the key learning areas of English, Maths and Science,
along with some additional craft and mindfulness activities – all for free!
The students also have access to our school online programs such as :
 Mathletics Years 1 –6
 Sound Waves K-6
 iMaths K-6
 www.matific.com

Sport News
Sports events will be temporarily ceased until further notice. This includes school Cross Coun-
try and Athletics Carnival, State Knockouts, District Trials, Regional and State Carnivals. As
soon as any information is received regarding these events we will inform you.
Green Team
Our school green team has been working hard to maintain our school gardens. The students
have been watering, picking up rubbish and gardening.
One thing that the students have noticed when doing compositing is the amount of fruit and
vegetable waste that is going into the compost bins. Lots of whole pieces of fruit or those that
only have a bite out of them are being thrown away.
If we could just be mindful when sending fruit , that we only send a small amount as it is a quick
snack.

The news about novel coronavirus continues to develop. It’s important to
take sensible steps to look after yourself and your family.
Keep an eye out for updates from reliable sources such as the NSW Gov-
ernment website
If you develop a fever, cough, sore throat or shortness of breath within 14
days of overseas travel or are in contact with someone else who has Corona-
virus, seek medical attention: call your GP, Healthdirect on 1800 022 222, or
in an emergency, your local hospital emergency department
Protect yourself and others: clean your hands regularly, cough or sneeze
into your elbow or a tissue. Face masks aren’t recommended for people
without symptoms. Importantly – stay at home if you’re feeling unwell.

At Service NSW our customers are our priority. We are putting in extra
measures to ensure your safety. We have improved cleaning and are
providing hand sanitiser and single-use pens at all our centres.

We encourage customers who have any of the symptoms listed above to
consider doing your Service NSW transactions online.

vier Centre at 6pm. Please bring along a copy of your child’s Baptism
certificate to attach to the enrolment form, cost is $30. Children who
have been baptised Catholic and are in Year Six or above are eligible to

Unfortunately Harmony Day on Friday, 20th March at Gwynneville Public School will be changed
due to the direction by the NSW Department of Education and Training to cancel whole school ac-
tivities.

This means that students will not:

 Participate in rotating activities. Instead students will stay in their classes and complete Har-
       mony Day activities.

 Parents or carers will be not be able to attend any activities throughout the day.

 There will be no special assembly in the afternoon.

Students are still asked to dress in Orange or a traditional outfit.

If you have any further questions please contact Mrs Krauss or Mrs Devlin.

Purple Day for Epilepsy
Purple Day is held on March 26. 1 in 200 children in Australia suffer with epilepsy,
including 3 students from our school. We will be asking students to come dressed
in purple or Mufti and bring a gold coin donation on the day.
