LETTER
By Anne Dixon
This is an exciting year for us. Seventy-
five years ago, on 15th August 1945, the
very first CPW event was held at Waddon
College, Oxford. Much has changed in the
Church and the World since then, but CPW has
continued to offer Catholic people, and their friends
and families, enriching, empowering and enjoyable
residential events in a creative community of faith.
Since 2020 marks CPW’s 75th Anniversary, we’re planning a celebration
(more on pages 10-11). The celebration is on 15th August 2020 and we’d
love to see you there. Whether you come to CPW every year, used to come
in the past, or if you’ve never been but would like to - this celebration is for
you, so please put the date in your diary!
Our 75th Anniversary celebrations will last throughout the year, so

15 Prophetic Imagination
Includes the Dora Turbin Lecture
15 - 16 Feb 2020 | Fully Catered | Childcare Available During Lecture
Hinsley Hall, Leeds
In the year of CPW’s 75th Anniversary we will use stories of inspirational people who
have been part of CPW’s history to find ways to respond to challenges today.
The speaker for the Dora Turbin Lecture on Saturday 15th will be David McLoughlin,
Emeritus Fellow of Christian Theology at Newman University, Birmingham. In his
research he explores the relationship between theology and everyday life. On the
challenge of prophetic imagination in 2020, David says “in every age we need men
and women who open up for us the prophetic imagination of a Moses at the burning
bush, or Hosea and Amos in a time of national crisis and of Jesus in his time”.

What does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly

of Micah’s prophetic call, looking at Biblical and some modern prophets who walked
or marched as witness to their calling.
We will be walking each day and exploring some of the countryside around
Penmaenmawr and nearby Snowdonia National Park. The week will be fully catered,
with a picnic lunch each day. You should come prepared to walk up to 10 miles each

CPW has so much to be thankful for that we want to celebrate all
we are and all we might be thanks to God’s generosity.
Nowhere is this more clearly exhibited than in the wonders of
Creation which will be displayed for us in the natural surroundings
of the house and grounds of the St Cassian’s Centre at Kintbury.
As part of our celebrations we will remember our responsibilities
to the Earth (referred to as ‘our common home’ by Pope Francis)
and to the generations for whom we hold it in trust. Are we
respectful and appreciative of our beautiful home? Could we do
more to protect it? What are the challenges that lie ahead?
The day will provide food for thought as well as ‘soul food’
for people of all ages and abilities. Our keynote speaker will
encourage us to see the world in a new light - God’s light - which
we hope will shine through all our praying, singing, dancing,
talking and just being together.
If you’re ever been to a CPW (even once!), or you come every
year, or you’ve thought you might come but haven’t got round to
it, or you’ve just heard about us and you’d like to know more - this
day is for you. Come and join us and help us celebrate 75 years
of faith seeking understanding.

for it is fading fast’ Rev 3:2
Prophetic Voices in the Call to Reform
9-15 Aug 2020 | Catered* | All Age (Parallel Children’s Programme)
St Cassian’s Centre, Kintbury
The Church, says Pope Francis, “needs prophets.... it needs all of us to be prophets, not
critics who don’t approve of anything, but one who opens wide the doors of hope”.
Prophetic voices challenge us to ‘wake up’, to trust and keep faith, to be courageous
in the proclamation of God’s word. But the many complex issues of our time – social,
economic, cultural, political and personal - offer no easy answers or quick solutions.
How is it possible for the Church to be the rock of Truth, and respond with an open and
generous heart to the many challenges of the modern world? Whose are the prophetic
voices who will truly wake us up and help the Church ‘revive what remains’?
Chair - Helen Floyd
During this all-age week we will listen to a range of prophetic voices: of women and

Deepening Dialogue, Discovering Difference
29 Oct -1 Nov 2020 | Fully Catered | All-Age (Parallel Children’s Programme)
Aylesford Priory, Kent
In today’s world, followers of one who welcomed the outsider, often pride themselves
on how unprejudiced and welcoming they are. We aim to build bridges not walls. We
celebrate diversity. We recognise that we are all the same underneath and find common
ground and ways to work together. But how often do we truly try to understand others?
To find out what someone else really believes, and why, requires true dialogue and
deep listening.
We will spend four days at the beautiful Aylesford Priory in Kent, challenging ourselves
to listen properly and understand the differences between ourselves, other faiths and
